I personally did the mk7 gti clutch in my garage on jack stands, and it’s def possible using the FCP Euro Clutch install guide. ECS Tuning has a bolt template on their install pdf to keep most of the bolts labeled as you take it apart to keep it organized which is nice. I didn’t bother removing my axle bolts and was fine, getting passenger side axle back in was a bit of a struggle but made it work (I’m lowered on coilovers not sure if that makes it easier or harder to swing the axle in and out of the axle cup).

I took the axles out incase I need to move the car, but previously I’ve preferred them out of the way just for the extra room to work. Having done a few different Mk6 & 7 clutch jobs I’ve found being lowered & in my case added chamber makes it easier to maneuver the axles out of the cups. Cars with performance package are 10x more difficult either way

@@BaunPerformance I can see how the added neg camber helps, and the performance pack is def annoying with the 6mm Allen bolts in the flanges. I thank you for your service in taking the leap of faith with the DKM twin disc clutch as an early adopter. The few threads I read regarding them just didn’t sound like something I wanted to go through and steered me away despite the advertised holding power and price point.

The non PP also have 6mm Allen, just not all the way down in as far like PP equipped cars. At the time it was basically BFI (built by Clutch Masters, which all turned out to be junk and later got discontinued), Southbend (which is known for poor quality & customer service on older & other platforms I’ve been on as well as this one), and DKM so I took the plunge.

Looks like the water pump might be leaking? Or coolant just needs to be topped off. Always watching that coolant on mine haha already replaced mine.

The last turbo vid I saw of yours was the is38/vortex video 2yrs ago..was curious of your thoughts on new stuff available gt22,and other big turbo option and tunes

Vortex is still my recommendation for 400whp+ & the is38 if 360-380ish will do it for you. Tons of options have come & gone, but those two still rule the market for value (quality & HP per $).

False starts while warm sounds a lot like my R when an injector was going bad. Wouldn't be surprised if they need refreshing at that mileage.

Definitely good preventative maintenance to swap injectors either way by 100k & do a carbon cleaning (which I’ve borescoped, but not done). Kind of like the LSD I’ve been waiting till it needed the intake manifold removed for carbon cleaning, water pump or injectors to do all three.

When your injectors when bad did you experience a loss in MPG? I’ve always kept an eye on that since a stuck injector will throw it way off as a early warning

@@BaunPerformance I can't say I paid attention. mine was real bad, teflon seal had disappeared and it sounded like a tractor. but the warm startup thing was an early sign that I didn't recognize until they were replaced and it went away.

Would you consider getting the revised DKM stage 2 clutch or just to completely stay away from DKM

I’ll never use or recommend DKM or their parent company Competition Clutch again. They completely lack ethics & screwed countless Mk7 owners in a completely avoidable situation.

I’m so hesitant on pulling trigger on a mk7 as my budget would put me in one around 60-70k miles. The risk of issues kinda scares me since I’ve only owned Hondas

To be fair, a aftermarket part design flaw was 100% the cause of this issue, but I bought this car new seven years ago with the sole purpose of extensively modifying it (with money held back for worst case scenarios like this one). On the other hand, you’ve got to be honest with yourself on budget, both for purchasing the car and maintaining it outside of warranty (especially if it’s financed)

I want to chip in on opinion as well, first off maintenance is key too keeping anything reliable. I came from being a young die hard Honda enthusiast, To now all my wife and I owed since 2017 is Audi and VW lol. These 15-18 GTi had the worst back talk from the chain/tensioner issues to faulty PCVs and such. But aside from that when you hear from people who’ve pushed them past 100k and still chooching, main thing is hardcore maintenance. Stay on top of it and you’ll have very little major issues. Never follow an oil change past 5k!! Hell, I work at Honda still see a bunch of POS stuff and yet people consider them one of the most reliable on the road. Especially new 1.5T Hondas with Blown head gaskets and turbo issues, fuel injectors, HPFP…. Shall I go on? Not to bash hard but simply speaking on don’t let people’s opinions on how they failed to maintain their vehicle keep you from buying your next. Study the previous maintenance record if you’re getting it from a dealer and if it’s spic and span. Pull the trigger. But if it lacks good history avoid it. Sorry about the rant but hope this helps!

Best case if you’re buying used is to buy private party from an enthusiast who’s done over the top maintenance for sure.
