People saying this is expensive. My hotel in Key West was $600 per night and the cheapest weekly rate hotel I found in ft Lauderdale was $1200 for 5 days for decent accommodations. This is much more beautiful and exotic. Parking hit me for $6-20 per day when going to various beaches as well. Hard to find free parking in tourist areas. This is a dream.

Sadly Americans are banned from Thailand during the pandemic but there are other cheaper countries in SE Asia available. $100 gets very little these days in Thailand. It's not inexpensive as you imply. Food and many clothes are cheaper in the UK. Renting accommodation is no longer dirt cheap. Fibre optic internet is incredibly fast but nearly £19 without calls. Average electricity bill with moderate air con use is £50 per month. I've been here 15 years and it sure isn't cheap.

Phuket is the one place I wish I NEVER went to while in Thailand. People told me to skip it but I didn't listen and now I tell everyone else to skip it. It's a mini Bangkok and overly expensive compared to the rest of Thailand. I highly suggest you avoid Phuket on your travels through Thailand. The main area is small, extremely busy and did I mention expensive in comparison. Do yourself a favour and go see other places.

money in Thailand is strange due to the immense wealth gap and Western tourists thinking in terms of EUR/USD/GBP. You can spend $4 on a meal for two or $400. For me 3 and 10 are an important numbers when dealing with Thai Baht. GDP per capita, PPP, is about 30% of the US, so this tells me I can buy about $3 worth of stuff in Thailand when the same amount of stuff will cost me $1 in America. With $1 being roughly 30 Baht with today's exchange rate it makes pricing things really easy, as everything then becomes some multiple of 10. For example if a street meal is 60 Baht, although direct conversion will result in about $2 or so, you can roughly equate that to 6USD when accounting for PPP. 10 Baht will buy you about $1's worth of goods and services in Thailand, 100 Baht will buy you 10 bucks worth of stuff, and so on. Same goes for luxury things. A five star hotel costs something like 6000 baht. Although direct conversion results in $200, dividing that 6000 by 10 gives you 600. $600 sounds about right for a 5 star hotel. Thinking like this will make things SUPER easy when determining whether something is a rip off or not. Just divide all the prices by 10 for your USD/EUR/GBP purchasing power.
