A baby is surrounded by amniotic fluid and wrapped in layers of their mother's body. This means that all external sounds are muffled. In the last trimester of pregnancy, babies become increasingly capable of hearing a range of musical tones, and studies confirm that babies react - in the womb - to the sounds they hear. Moreover, if a late-term fetus “overhears” the same melody again and again, it will likely recognize this tune later - when it hears the music as a newborn.
I came up with the idea to simulate the above situation using spatial sound.
I managed to put an ambisonic recorder in an enclosed basket filled with water and recorded the sound of an african lullaby coming through an outside bluetooth speaker. Thus i managed to capture the fluid motion of the ambisonic microphone/ fetus through an ambix recording. I further processed the recording with eq, and also used an ultrasound of a fetus heart (headlocked).
