The only place on KZitem you can see in detail if an engine is good or not. The DuraTEC is a near bulletproof engine, except when the oil runs out.

No Expense spared on cracking out a Brand New Wire Brush !!!!! hahahahaha Big End bearing have spun on the crankshaft and as you say, Fully Twated. Piston Skirts have a Teflon Coating on them and that still looks to be in good condition. Shows the engine was running well. Thanks for doing the video that I requested, appreciated. Always good to see what parts have failed etc and the extent of the damage caused. Solid information for future albeit that if it happens again it's straight in the bin.

....tip for installing new Spark Plugs....smear of copper grease or similar on upper threads, then wind in using a length of garden hose, taking care not to cross - thread - and, do not overtighten as taper threads, Too many people overtighten, risking stripping threads in head. Best wishes, Alan........Chris. Always enjoy your vids.

hi, yes these are pre set tappets that you would check..if the valve clearance is wrong you would need a micrometer, work out what size you need and order new bucket/tappets the correct size you need but i don't know who ever checks them unless there is a running problem.

Nothing wrong with that at all as long as you don't apply it to the last 2 threads closest to the tip. It is standard practice on aircraft spark plugs. :)

Hi Alan, how can I identify what piston number is? I have the same Mondeo 2.0 MK3, the 4 pistons have the same marks on the top of head, left side "C2" in the middle "R52C" AND the right side "EF" and one arrow pointing to the timing chain. I can also notice that on the inside, 2 of them have the number 6 and the other 2 have the 8. Thank you in Advance and greetings from Mexico.

On the subject of things being dropped in engines, first time I pulled the head off my first car (Imp) there were dings all over one piston and combustion chamber. Jammed in the inlet port was the culprit - a fuel line hose clip, less nut and bolt which had gone through the engine. And no, it wasn't me that had dropped it in the carb.
@Taz6688

Years ago we would regrind the crank, rebore the cylinders, skim the head, reseat the valves or new ones, back then it worked out cheaper than another engine, with todays engines is this still valid or are they too expensive to repair, last time a bought pistons they were about £80 each, but the rebore was cheap, you would probable just source another engine, would that be cheaper or just quicker?

A short length of say 6mm ID plastic tubing or hose fits tightly onto the top of the centre electrode and allows you to take the plug out after it has been loosened with the socket wrench. It also allows you to start the spark plug without cross=threading it when you re-fit it. :)

05:38 (the exhaust bit). Here's my theory - for what it's worth . When you weld something (like the pipe to the box) , there is a Heat Affected Zone parallel to the weld. The steel gets heated into a temperature range that causes grain growth (the metal crystals grow larger in that zone at the expense of those around them). Resistance to fatigue depends on how coarse or fine grained the metal is - the bigger the metal crystals or grains, the faster/easier a fatigue crack can grow and the exhaust is subject to a lot of vibration.

Do we know the exact cause here ? Did the owner neglect to put oil in entirely for a long time or was there another cause or a secondary cause ? I wonder as i see a sheer lack of oil in the sump. I ask as i want to know if this is common,its scary to think of all the small integral parts in an engine that can go wrong and it all looks like the engine is heavily reliant on good quality consistent oil maintenance. I am guessing also by the looks of it,if you do have a problem with the oil intake on a car then its not instantly detectable and once you know about it,it would usually be far too late,not only that but to replace these parts you need to strip the engine,and repairs after the fact are not cost effective due to secondary damage to the engine. A scary thought Thanks

Jesus that's bad. But other than the inlet manifold swirl flaps and running out of oil looks like a well engineered lump (albeit the fuel economy on them is crap). Still could be worse, could be a rover k series.
@williamwoods8022
4 жыл бұрын
Rover K-Series are excellent engines and it was only after they decided to use the same 1100/1400 blocks for the 1600/1800 engines as well that the head gaskets became a problem and that was mostly to do with people who never bothered checking their coolant levels as these engines didn't have a lot of coolant in them and thus if the owners didn't check it regularly then it would cause the engine to overheat and then the gasket to fail. My mates dad still has the 2001 MG ZS 1800 that he used to own that has been in their family from brand new that has never had to have the head gasket changed as they look after it and check the coolant levels regularly. Once the head gasket has been done correctly with the uprated head gasket there is NO problems with these engines again. The Chinese still use these engines as the N-Series in the MGs with the uprated gaskets today with NO problems these cars still designed and engineered in the same design centre as when it was MG Rover in England before they went bust. The engineers were pushing the management for the uprated gaskets back when it was MG Rover but the corrupt bosses were too busy transferring the assets of the company to their other companies to bother with fixing easy stuff like that for their customers and workers.
@Simon-ui6db
3 жыл бұрын
@@williamwoods8022 being a rover owner I know the problems with the k lumps, give me a kv6 over a 4 pot. I've had 2 4 pot 1.8 engines with uprated gasket and oil rail and they still blew. The N series is a great rework of the block with extra webbing etc and wouldn't have any problem running a petrol mg6.
