Interviewing a chatbot was a bizarre experience. The implications of ChatGPT (and AI text generators in general) on how we create text, code, do marketing and students 'write' essays have been well considered, but I was interested in what this all means for how we collect and consider statistics and data. Will they be accurate? Will we simply lose trust in the numbers we see, read and hear? Of course, how much insight can a chatbot possibly give on the topic? Be interested to hear your thoughts on what you consider the implications might be. Thanks for watching.

Yes, definitely. Consider examples of high-pace, high-frequency, data-led decision making (eg trading) the risks involved and mechanisms that need to be in place to avoid runaway negative feedback loops leading to... shall we say... less than optimal outcomes! Lots to ponder... 🧐

Such an interesting episode!! Thanks OFTM and, ahem, ChatGPT

Thanks Mark! Glad you enjoyed it. This space is moving so fast - there are already other AI programmes/interfaces that do provide links to source stats 🚀

Given your musical background, any cautionary instincts you might have about "data feedback", wherein you generally want to keep the mic away from the amplifying speaker?

Hey Jasen! Interesting question. Some would say that feedback spawned rock 'n' roll - so I don't instinctively shy away from it! That said, your comment did spark a more cautionary thought about how 'negative feedback' could see a poor piece of information repeated ad nauseam, making it harder for the user to trace back to the original source and check validity. Chat Generative AI (or whatever this week's preferred term is) appears to place more noise between the user and the underlying source - making fact-checking more tiresome and laborious, perhaps too tiresome and laborious for most people. And the more convincingly that poor information is presented, the more problematic it becomes IMHO.

@@OursForTheMaking I love a *just right* amount of reverb and feedback but there's definitely a Goldilocks zone. Having dabbled a bit as a sound tech, I wince whenever things go awry as a result of poor mic control, or lacklustre gains/clipping control. I tend to worry about apprentices being given the tools of masters, especially when the 2nd-nth order consequences aren't properly mapped out. Garbage data X infinity mirrors/amps seems like a bad idea to me...

@@JasenRobillard I tend to agree - the focus has been on the technical (and commercial) possibilities rather than a sober consideration of the societal and moral concerns. If the latter aren't addressed the benefits will never been seen. They go together.
