I live near Matsusaka City, in Mie Prefecture, which is famous in Japan for beef. But what’s funny is that local people hardly ever eat beef. Especially when we go out for BBQ or to an izakaya, chicken is king. 👑 When we order ‘yakiniku’ (BBQ), most people opt for miso-marinated chicken, which is the signature style for Mie. Check it out if you’re in the area! 🍻

@@mehmetbagbekleyen Good point. In this case, I think regional ‘food culture’ is one of the reasons, but socioeconomic factors do play into things as well. I’m pretty sure most of the high-grade ‘wagyu’ beef consumption in my area is done by wealthy (domestic) travelers. Normal local people aren’t rich enough and/or are too practical to spend that much on dinner. 😆

@@Theguywithephonyname Yeah it is a little expensive compared to other mass produced hot sauces. But is is a given as it is hand crafted in a comparable limited amount with high quality ingredients in Japan. I mean you can see that it isn't a giantic amount as the first batch is already sold out 😅

Paolo, my family and I play a drinking game when watching your videos, especially food-specific ones. Whenever you go 'Mmmmmmmm' (like the one at 5:55), we take a drink of beer (or sodas for the kids). In this video we've only had 5 sips. Please make more 'Mmmmmmm" sounds in your future food videos😁

Hi Paolo! I don't know about other parts of the U.S., but in the Southeast, my grandmother used to call that juicy part of the chicken "the preacher's nose" (I guess because there were many Baptists and few Catholics 😄). Anyway, when we asked what the preacher's nose was, she would say: the last part of the chicken to go over the fence! Just FYI. Love your channel. My daughter and I used many of your guides for our trip to Japan in 2019. Wolfie's adorable and the perfect mix of his mama and daddy. ✌🏻

Shishito peppers were described as sweet and they usually are, but occasionally you get one that is really hot, maybe close to jalapeno hot, and then you end up drinking everything at the table trying to cool your mouth off.

Shishito peppers are delightful -- and sometimes surprising, with the occasional pod (~1 in 10) packing noticeable heat in comparison to the usual mildness of its comrades. I love their sweet taste and the tiny bit of capsaicin roulette just makes them even more fun for me. The chicken nanban looked so darn good - if I ever get to visit over there, I will be sure to try it!

I have been a subscriber since this channel's first couple of Japanese travel related videos and everything Paolo has uploaded has been very helpful for the 5x I have been to Japan. Can you pls do a content on solo traveler friendly places and establishments/restos in Japan? Also with Izakaya, I have never tried it once as it is known as drinking place with friends and 4/5 I always travel alone (plus I have alcohol allergy huhu). Though I am aware Japan is pretty good for solo travelers, I am just curious if there's other things I can do on my next visit. Thanks Paolo.

HA!- The Pope's Nose, that's really funny. I eat the tail piece when I buy whole birds and they're really good. They are soft and have a good amount of fat on them. The oysters on the back though are the best piece of meat on pretty much any bird. Super soft and succulent- it's like the filet mignon piece on most birds. Great vid as always= glad I found you.

The Japanese cut "Pope's Nose" we call "Parson's Nose"😂 and it was my auntie's favourite piece of the bird and if we ever went to a carvery restaurant she would ask for it and would often get given a plateful with great surprise.❤❤👋👋👵🏴

Even the Japanese have the Indian type "chakna" side dishes that go well with alcohol but our selection is limited to snacks items (chips , mixture packets, pakodas , samosas , veg manchurian in veg & in nonveg fast foods like chicken manchurian , fried chilli chicken etc . But we don't have Shops dedicated to drink & food . We just ordered all of those food mentioned above & have a drink n food party at home or some friend's rented place
