Certified Nurse Coaches work independently with their own business; as contractors or as employees with hospitals, businesses or institutions; with preneatal moms or at end of life. These are jsuta few settings that NC work in.

Are there jobs related to this profession? The role is described, but the motivation for an RN to obtain this certification is unclear.

Dear Peter, The role of coaching is one of the top emerging jobs in health care. As the healthcare system moves from a focus of illness and disease this role becomes more important as the Nurse Coach helps people attain personally identified goals that help them achieve a greater state of wellness and wellbeing. Nurse coaches work in numerous settings and with any clients seeking and desiring change; ie: with clients who have experienced cardiac events, prenatally, end of life, in hospitals, businesses, clinics, in health systems, gyms, independent practice etc. Those seeking the Nurse Coach certification are wanting to work with people in a different way than the biomedical model. I hope this is helpful.

@@HolisticRNCertified i think the bottom line is, were and what do u need to actually get an entry position, a job! in this field, and is it easy to get a job without having experience in specifically nurse coaching. thats what it boils down to, can a regular experienced nurse get a job fairly quickly in nurse coaching without having specific experience in this field, and how long is the training really take, or do u need experience in nurse coaching to actually get work@@!!!???

I have never worked in an environment that "Pushed pills and surgeries to solve problems" and in showing this video to collogues, and family members that are also RN this video is despicable. To imply our profession would sit in an environment that "Pushes pills and surgeries" suggests we are servants and not professionals. That we are not advocates and use our voices, knowledge, and power for change is just despicable. No idea what a "nurse coach" does I have never heard of it or worked with one, however, the first few minutes of this ad? despicable and insulting to our profession.

Dear Tamara, I am sorry that the ad that came before the video implied that all nurses do is pushed pills and surgeries to solve peoples' problems. I tried to watch it but it didn't come up before the video when I tried to access it. Unfortunately we have no control over the ads they put before our videos. I too find it insulting that it it's implications relegate us to being hand maidens, pill pushers, task oriented technicians. We are challenged as a profession to show that we are so much more than that, that we provide professional services, person-centered care, and deserve not only trust but also respect. What we offer is invaluable to health care and the transformation of a current system that focuses on illness and disease versus health, wellness, and wellbeing. Thank you for your comments.

i guess uve never worked in acute care setting in south fla, , its pretty much what i felt like. a servant and drug pusher, im lucky to have time to go to the bathroom,; and tell a patient and doctor that u dont need so many pills but gud nutrition and excercise are more important and u will quickly b out of a job@!, the medical care in usa is more like a medical mafia, imo!
