I agree with the social media ban . My 13 yr. old has shown tremendous academic growth since fully removing all social media access.

I am a RN and my husband works as a union iron worker. There is no way we can relocate now with the cost of housing. If all we did was pay for housing we could easily buy, but with kids and the expenses that come from them your take home pay needs to be 108 not your gross! Florida nurses are not paid well at all. Plus cost of benefits you definitely can not afford to buy right now!

From what I've heard, I actually don't think FL pays nurses very well at all, and that's why we have a major shortage. My 21 year old son (with zero experience) is finishing up his BSN in Seattle this May and already has an offer to start at $44.13/hr before differentials. He'll easily exceed $100k in 2025 (his first full year as a nurse). If we paid starting nurses that well here I have zero doubt we could reduce the shortfall significantly.

You’re not wrong. Location matters though. Florida pays less than New York, dc, Chicago, Seattle, LA. Cost of living is 30-40% less with no state income tax. That being said, nurses and teachers should make more

@@TheOrlandoReal Yeah about that...The cost of living in Florida is starting to compare of that to those states. Rent has doubled in one year, insurance and everything else is making "no income tax" not worth it. The fact that a nurse can't make a decent living with $30/hr in Florida tells you everything you need to know. Meanwhile minimum wage is $15 and climbing.

The second income is for emergency expenses. To be living pay check to pay check its supposed to be one income and and 1/3 of the selling price to be able to afford the house otherwise you will be in trouble.

Florida is notorious for not paying nurses well. When calculating yearly salaries, it's important to remember that nurses typically work 3 12 hr shifts per week, which is 36 hrs vs. 40/wk. The shifts are long, but they help with continuity of care (the quality of care over time). The median posted salary in Florida is less than the starting salary of a graduate nurse in the southeastern part of PA. It makes it nearly impossible to relocate to Florida. Although, Liz Hambsh is amazing, and I hope to anyway.

Question on that $9k/month or $108k/year income figure… is that pre-tax income or income after taxes?

@@danielbiowa I was assuming that due to the percentages that were given of the cost of the house per income. I try to keep KZitem comments short. Thanks for the reply!

54k should be on the lower end of upper-middle class.

OK--and to your 2nd story. NO PHONES IN SCHOOL. I cannot tell you how many times I hear, "Mom texted me. I need to reply." There's no regard to what's happening in the classroom. It's CONSTANT. I have 130 kids a day (Middle School), and it's a huge issue.

Teachers should make a minimum 500 a day. That’s about 90k a year with 180 days a teacher works. But unfortunately in America teachers get walk all over. 😢
