**A note before you begin. I got some of my calculations wrong. Retirement, according to the Government website, is currently 67. This would mean that my official retirement will be in 2041. However, the basics of the money calculations still work in terms of demonstrating how much you need.**
Retirement funding / retirement security is an incredibly important subject to me. I see pensioners living on the edge, I see others who are living their most comfortable life and it’s all because of the decisions they made when they were still working.
I don’t have that many years to go before retirement is potentially on the horizon and I have little more than the state pension and a few savings. And whilst I can’t imagine ever not working in some capacity and earning an income, my health may not always allow it and I need to be sure I am taking that into consideration.
The figures I use in my calculations are huge generalisations but are designed to show you the huge financial gap between living on the edge in old age and living more comfortably, and the large amounts of money needed to fill that gap, without a private or work pension. It’s an illustration to show the seriousness of the situation and why it is something we all need to think about as soon as possible.
Here are some links for more information. They are not financial advice, they are just articles and websites I came across as I was researching this vlog. Please add yours if you have more to add.
