You should definitely do more videos like these, especially with the rise in online programs. I would have loved this a year ago when I was still taking didactics. What a great video!

When I read the caption of this video, I instantly thought to myself “drepanocytes and target cells.” I’m a phlebotomist and I just finished the first year of a MLT program, so it was so cool seeing this. I’ve since made the decision to switch to nursing, but the lab will always have a piece of my heart ❤. We need more of these kind of videos Dom!

Definitely see if you can find a shadowing opportunity! It’d be a great way to help you figure out if you’d like to work in a lab environment.

This is awesome! I kust finished school in July, passed hoth AMT and ASCP... I have started working in Molecular Diagnostics, but I am not sure Im hoing to enjoy it. I think I want to be in a lab where I can have variety, and do more manual hands on work vs just loading machines all day. Any advice for the newbie? Should I stay for 6 months or a year or should I just move on since I know Im not going to enjoy it?

Congrats on passing your exams! It sounds like you’d enjoy the variety of working as a generalist. I think it wouldn’t be a bad thing to give yourself at least six months in molecular before moving on. That way, you’ll have time to solidify your skills while you explore your options to decide what’s next.
