None of the list. I have a crackling sound in my right ear only. It's not continuous. But it sounds like a combination of static and the sort of crackling that you hear when you add milk to rice crispy cereal. Nothing on your list really approximates it.

Although I have a high pitched ringing that would fall under the category of tinnitus, the most prominent sound I hear is not in your list. It is a strange electronic whooping sound that goes high and low but starts and stops randomly. I hear it almost exclusively in a quiet setting. It's almost but not exactly like a theremin or a little like when someone plays a saw as an instrument. Short bursts, high then low, or low then high, or multiples of the same, some longer some shorter. What would cause that?

#1 - for as long as I can remember. I had multiple ear infections as a child, and wound up with tubes in both ears. I have had panic attacks and depression at first but have learned to tell myself it will go back down. Sometimes its hard to watch your videos or talk about it because it makes me more aware of it. I just preoccupy myself with busy things to alleviate or ignore. Edit. I also want to add that I have taken omeprazole daily for the past decade and heard that there may be links as well.

I have 1,3,5,6,8,9. Different times of the day, some come and go. You also forgot one, the diesel engine. It is a bass sound that sounds like a car engine is on the top floor of your house. Hissing sounds and cicadas are sometimes the combination of different tinnitus frequences coming together, some of them make a wah wah pedal effect on the sounds you hear. I have tinittus for 10 years now whitch I inherited from my father who has serious hearing loss, he is 93 now and has lost hearing in one of his ears and barely hears from the other.. The sounds I hear are different in each ear different pitch and the diesel sound is on my right ear only. I also have vertigo this year, whitch lasted for 4 months and tinittus got wild at this time, it was almost deafening. Thank you for your videos, they help a lot.

I have a combination of 1 & 5. Always the same intensity of volume and it has more of a multi tone aspect like listening to three notes in constant harmony. I'm over 60 and have dealt with this since I was in my early teens. I have never found anything that masks the sound entirely unless it is some version of very loud chopping sound like hard random rain dropping on a metal roof. Volume wise, mine is around the 35-45 decibel range.

This has been a very informative video! I have suffered with tinnitus my entire life. My earliest memory of being about 5 years old and hearing the pure tone ringging. This has disrupted my life in unimaginable ways, from sleep derivation to not being able to sit still throughout school. I have told and begged many Doctors for help to be told there's nothing that can be done to relieve it. Now a 51 I suffer from sounds 1,3,and 5 sometimes so loudly that it drowns out my wife's voice. In loud public places its causes a closterphobic type of sensation with an increasing anxiety. I am so pleased to have found this video and find that now medical professionals are studying this extensively.

I experience sound number 1 (very high pitched) in both ears. I've had this for almost 30 years now, so most of the time I don't notice it. However, it's always there. Where I have most difficult hearing is when we are in a room with other people talking - such as a bar or a restaurant. I have a lot of trouble hearing what people are saying to me in these situations.

I have constant tinnitus, going back as far as I can recall. At least as far back to my time in the U.S. Air Force in the 60s. As for the sounds in the video, I don't hear anything in numbers 1, 5, 6, 8. I did hear the other sounds. I asked my wife to listen to make sure the computer was working correctly. What is more interesting is reading comments of folks apparently saying they "have" certain numbers. I don't hear anything in those I mentioned so couldn't tell if any of those of all of them are the constant noise in my head, or not. Interesting indeed.

Every so often the symptoms of mild numbness/slight pain return in that ear & down my face for several days; at that time I notice increased hearing loss in that ear. The tinnitus only became apparent recently though & is most bothersome at night /bedtime & when I’m in a very quiet environment.

3,5,6,7,8,10,11. Not all at once but usually within a combination. I’m 61 and the tinnitus began at 39. I HATE the locust/cricket season. My tinnitus has gotten so bad, certain peoples voices no longer let me understand their words. I’ve been prescribed hearing aids that have a tinnitus setting. They add another layer of noise to the combination of sounds I already endure. My audiologist has determined my hearing and comprehension are 96%. This morning I awoke to crickets and the ticking of alarm clocks. Not a good day. Your cricket video was extremely frustrating to me. In the fall I repeatedly as my wife if she can hear the thousands of crickets I perceive. She never has. I had coVid over thanksgiving 2021, since then the volume of the tinnitus has increased. I’ve noticed the harder I concentrate on understanding words, the more intense the tinnitus becomes. I associate this to stress. Thank you for taking an interest in this affliction Dr.

So this is what I’ve done I lowered significantly my sodium intake no caffeine no smoking no alcohol no cheese no dairy no snacks I gave up dark chocolate only because I found that there are ingredients in there that I question. I don’t do drugs. I try to get at least 6 to 7 hours of sleep every night prior to that my tinnitus sounded much like a nonstop whistle, and the Times make a nor’easter wind making its way through the spaces of my home. Sounds like this. Hisssssssssssss So since I gave up all the foods that were not recommended, I also incorporated, green, leafy vegetables, pineapple, arugula, peppers of all colors, spinach, mixed greens, and I could say that it’s diminished it by at least 50%. Sometimes in the morning you could hardly even hear it so I went from my seven sounding out of 10 being the worst to a.

#1 pure tone and #8 crickets. Sometimes at night the tinnitus is a blend of both - pure tone + crickets. I wonder if the combined sound at night time is because it's quieter at night or because my brain isn't able to distract me from hearing it as much after doing it all day. I can distract myself from hearing it when there are louder noises around me, like watching a movie or listening to music / songs. Don't know if I've had it since birth but definitely noticed it in my teen years. When I was very young I also would click my teeth together when reading in my head (silent reading), and when singing or talking silently in my head. I have joked that I'm going def or am a bit deaf since my teenage years because I could never hear people talk properly - always saying 'pardon? I didn't hear what you said'. An audiology test did pick up that my ears have difficulty hearing / understanding what's being said when there is background noise. The doctors never followed up though and I've never been good at advocating for myself or my healthcare needs. I'm turning 51 soon and this is the first time I've ever done research into it.

I have had the number one sound for years, and to be honest, it does not bother me unless it becomes louder. Back in August and September I had additional tinnitus, and one of them was the sound of cicadas which would be loud and then taper off to a softer sound, but the worst one which was a nightmare for me, and drove me right into depression Was the sound of a loud landslide but with the sound my eyes or vision would vibrate it only lasted for 1 to 2 seconds, but it was a very horrible experience and I did go to an audiologist for a 2 1/2 hour screening, and at the end she gave me no treatment Except she could help possibly by showing me a hearing aid. The funny thing was she said my hearing was only bad on high notes. I’m 79 years old and don’t expect to have perfect hearing but I was pretty upset that I really didn’t get any suggestion for a treatment if I ever get that again. I even had an MRI of the brain because of the visual vibration I was getting during that roaring sound in my right ear only and the MRI of the brain was negative for any tumors.

It started in my right ear with a distinct hissing. It has evolved. At present it involves both ears. The dominant and most difficult symptom (I see this a s a complex and very specific neurological problem that only manifests through some inner ear structures) to manage is the very high pitched ring-whistle. This seems (It is hard to perfectly quantify something that is often a shifting subjectivity) to be persistent at around 10Khz and seems common to both ears. I also perceive it as being in the center of the head, which can be very disturbing, and highlights the brain-neurology of the situation. During the day these things are largely unnoticeable unless I focus on it. I have had severe insomnia long before these torturous symptoms. Of course this problem is extremely unwelcome in that context. The only good thing is that, without having any reference, i would rate this as a 3 on the loudness scale...very subjective. I say that because my condition is responsive to the audio distractions Dr. Ben has put online, particularly silk. I run white noise during the day when at home and condition (habituate) myself to it. At night I use some tiny soft "Sleep" ear buds and play silk or other high frequency (at least 10Khz) 10 hour loops. Usually these are effective enough in matching and therefore neutralizing the tinnitus to a point that I am either totally unaware of it or perceive it as a sound external to my head. That exteriorizing makes it less disturbing emotionally and I can dismiss it and fall asleep, WHEN it works. When it doesn't, the ring whistle cuts throung ANYTHING I throw at it and is largely impossible to ignore. This makes falling asleep pretty much impossible. The IDEA that the condition is something hopeless...that it's my own body turning on me...and the sound itself...that can be perceived as a whining screaming drill bit turned on in the center of my brain for eternity....these hellish thoughts don't help one fall asleep. at that point it isn't much consolation to know a zillion other people suffer with it. As a "side note" I think that the fact that so many millions have it, is no accident or coincidence in that we live in a very sick culture where millions abuse their ears all day long with the autistic use of electronic and musical crap being abusively poured into our ears, our own "decision," with earphone appilances. Too, we are bombarded 24/7 by frequencies of extremely diverse nature from an atmosphere saturated with radio, satelite, machinery etc. noises. I would venture that tinnitus is essentially a contemporary problem and that there were far fewer cases as a % of population 100 years ago. Anyway, I feel hopeful I'll sort this out, but in the meantime its a bitch. My thanks to Dr. Ben for making these frquenct loops available and discussing the wisdom of habituation techniques.

I have left ear sounds only, always high pitch, combination of static, electric, and cicadas. My hearing loss is high pitch only. My right ear made a very loud high pitch noise a couple of nights ago, and I’m worried I’ll end up with both ears having tinnitus and hearing loss.

the first 4 month were just pure terror...because every e few weeks there was new noise I've heard, I've ended up with 9 sounds and I felt dizzy. If it was just one sound at low level, I wouldn't pay it much attention, but getting worse overtime freaks me out. Change happened when neurologist gave me magnesium and from the 9 sounds it went down to 4, much quieter and manageable.

#8 Cicadas-#5 jet engines mix in both ears constantly. If there is another sound going on, i.e. TV, I have difficulty in conversation understanding words. I can hear the voice but not the words clearly. It seems on occasion to ease-not gone-but ease off then come back.

I have 2 to 4 constant tones in both ears... Sounds #1, #5, #6 for me at levels varying from 3-8 in both ears... I'm 51 and have played a lot of football in my teens (running/full back so yeah, got several head hits in my youth...). Possibly related, I also have a lot of osteoarthritis in my neck, between ny shoulders and pratically all of my lombar spine.

Mine started in my right ear as a result of small children screaming in a confined space, my mini bus. The strange thing is generally on the third day my ear is completely silent from the time I get up till the time I go to bed and sometimes it may stay quiet for two days! Unfortunately it always comes back, perhaps 7 to 8? I would say number one or two sound. It has now migrated to my left ear as well. When it starts to quieten down both ears are in unison. Sometimes when my ears are quiet dozing of can set them going, when i have it dozing off can stop it. Really most odd. Does anybody else have tinnitus similar to this?

Mine is exactly the same! I got mine from children screaming in my left ear. I have moderate to severe hearing loss in left ear. Mine is very high pitched hissing sometimes jet engine. It can go away like yours and it comes back with a vengeance. Also when I doze off it comes back loud!

Tea Kettle, both ears, level 7-8, around 8khz, constant. Occasionally it's like a vacuum has been placed on my ears, I can sense a pressure change and the sound gets much louder

For most of the time, its #1 on my left ear. But when im home, which is in a rural area, sometimes im hearing the cricket sound. I thought it was real cricket, because we actually could hear it in the evening. The thing is, sometimes I'm hearing it at noon. I asked my mom whether she hear it or no and she said no.

I heard something that was a cross between the sound of electrical noise (#7) and whooshing (#10) ... I had never heard it before today or at least if I had, I didn't recognize/notice it. It made me think that a machine was near me running which makes no sense. All my machines were off and far away except one that was off and nearby. And it was definitely a sound that was coming from me as I moved away from my bed and could still hear the sound. However, I would like to point out that my more common tinnitus experience(or at the very least, longer lasting and therefore more noticeable) is a little bit like #1 here, but it's [usually?] not a singular 'pure tone', it's pulsating. It also seems to have a much softer sound than that, but I recognize the sound from TV shows or movies. Very annoying, but not as bad as some of the crazier sounds. I'm guessing many, if not all of these sounds, are just generic sounds that are merely similar to the actual sounds, which I know they aren't actual sounds, but I thought it might make sense to try to manipulate the existing sounds if possible to create imagined sounds or at least closer approximations of those sounds. Well, whether it's possible or not, I highly doubt that this was done here. I wanted to point that out to everyone here, because there's a good chance people that either don't suffer all these things or never suffer tinnitus might get the wrong idea about what these variations sound like. I think we may be forced to use our imaginations here.

I have been around some horrible noise most of my life. Mine is a high pitched solid tone. Can’t remember the last time it wasn’t something I have to push to the side. If you’re ever sitting on the fence on some subject some these tones will make a perfect son an idiot given enough time. Personally I spend quiet time outdoors with my dog to keep my 3rd generation Marine butt were people like me. That tone is no joke, been dealing with it for 25 years. Stay aware of it my friends. As the tone goes up patience goes down.

What does it mean that I can't at all hear the ringing tone? I have a constant loud hissing in one ear--and I can hear all the other tones, but zip when it comes to the "ringing"? This is a revelation to me.

I went to The Eras Tour in feb, and ever since ive been hearing something similar to #5. My nurse said that by flying to and from a concert was too much threshold shift at once. Im hoping it does go away and isnt permanent, but even if it is permanent, i have no regrets going. Im lucky its at least very quiet and easy to drain out.

Combination of 1 and 7, but 7 is at a higher pitch. Sound is in both ears but much louder in the right ear. It is there all the time and on a scale of 1 to 10 the sound is at a 5 daily but can spike up to a 10, especially if I have a cold, or believe it or not when there is a full moon.
