As one who has walked w/ the Lord for over 65 yrs. now, (& been thro incredible losses), I would like to suggest 2 books that have brought me so much comfort thro the years. I believe they’re still in print…I picked mine up (not knowing the treasures they would be for me), at Goodwill for like a $1 each. One was brand new & the other only had marks on the dedication page. By Tyndall: 1. “The One Year book of Bible Promises” (Each day has a verse & a short themed-devotion). 2. “The One Year book of Personal Prayer” (Each day has a verse; then a short (but powerful) prayer about that verse & then a quote from various people). (They’re chunky, elegant-looking books.) May God bring comfort through whatever gift you give your Mom. What a loving daughter you are to care in that way. Blessings to you both!

(Cream w/ green spine on Prayer.) Promises is at Amazon-new & a paperback used. Can’t find a new Prayer, but is used at many thrift book stores: Thriftbooks; Abe’s & others. I’ve never ordered from any of them. I hope that helps. They are such precious books to me. God bless!

For a beginner, may I recommend my own every day carry, the CSB? The Christian Standard Bible was created to be the perfect blend of "true to the word" and "readable", and many people online do find this to be the case. Don't ask me though, I've only started a few months ago and am just up to Leviticus 7. Although the words do kinda fall into my lap compared to my NASB 1995 or my NKJV, with how mentally exhausted I tend to be, that may not be such a bad thing. Two things I have heard though are that there is a Bible out there for everyone, and the best Bible you have is the one you keep reaching for.

I’d say if anyone is considering Jesus Calling, pray about it, read a few pages for yourself and see if it resonates. It changed my life personally. She uses scripture and writes it so it seems like Jesus is talking to you. It’s not her own words. This devotional is the main reason I revisited my relationship with Christ and have been getting more and more intimate ever since. 💖

I second your comment @aprilmaedavis. I understand the importance of accountability in the body of Christ but there is a fine line between accountability and acting as a religious Pharisee . If you personally do not feel convincentes by the Holy Spirit about reading that devotional then you should not worry. These internet goons are not the Holy Spirit , therefore should not be condemning people for reading a devotional. God Bless you sister and I am so proud that you are seeking the Lord and growing in your relationship with Him 🤍 He sees your heart and that’s all that matters !

Please compare the KJV to the rest of your Bibles. I care for you and don’t want you to be deceived. Please look at Luke 2:22. Most of the translators take away from this verse. Anyway KJV states “and when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord. The rest I’m sorry take away from his deity. Most say their purification. My Lord was pure. He needed not to be purified. Please consider. Love you Sister. God Bless.

I’d just keep in mind they are both good translations but anyone should always strive to graduate from a thought for thought translation to a word for word translation especially to study the Word of God.

I have recently fallen in love with the NLT; it's so easy to read and just lovely to enjoy and understand. This video really reassured me about something, too! Firstly, I want to start off with saying your video is wonderful and informative for those beginning their religious/spiritual journey. Wonderfully done, and keep it up! As for markers, I use regular pencil crayons (a.k.a. coloured pencils) to mark my Bible, it's affordable, last nearly forever, and never ever bleeds through the insanely thin pages. You can use them to highlight verses or words by shading the whole section or just underlining, each carrying a different meaning. Now to my main point, I have read many different versions of the Bible (KJV, KJV 1611, NIV, ESV, NASB, Interlinear Bible, and the Geneva Bible) and have found the KJV to be the best to learn and study from because it is closest to the original text while somewhat close the modern English. Something to remember is that both God and Jesus speak in parables, which is why being close the original is better as it preserves the original meaning and context of the scriptures and is open to your personal interpretation and not from someone else perspective. Each time someone grows their perspective changes and with that also the meaning of certain verses, thus further increasing your personal spiritual growth. Note: Just like in school you always want to learn from source documents not someone else's opinion/interpretation. This will always give you truth.

I agree 100%. My very first Bible was a KJV, but it was a children's Bible. My parents got it for me when I was very young. When I was in my teens I bought a NIV Women's Study Bible, and then about ten years ago I bought a NKJV, after realizing that the NIV has entire scriptures missing. Intentionally. It wasn't a printing error. I've used that NKJV a LOT, so it's showing some wear, and I've had to repair the spine once already so I've bought a few more since then, and have gravitated back towards the KJV. As a side note, I recently got some seriously old KJV Bibles at an estate sale. They are in fair condition, and one has notes in the margins from the original owner. It is really neat to see how older Bibles were made, and how they compare to what is being made today.

@@susannahfriesenofficial "The evidence is all around you, you just need to look." If that's your logic then it stands to reason that if God made everything He made the bad as well as the good. "Its also not my job to convince you that God is real" It's also not every "believer's" job too - since no one can answer my initial request. if one believe that there is a painter behind every painting, a potter behind every finished vase, a chef being every meal at a restaurant…then surely, one could step outside, see the birds, the sky, the vegetation, and the human beings and know that there is a creator. For even Leonardo Di Vinci lived before you and i drew our breath, and we know without a doubt he was real, just based upon the evidence of his paintings. yet, we also, question if there is a God when we see how human life is created. it’s a human anomaly that i will never understand.

also, she might not be able to prove it, but if you were to do some research about archaeological discoveries, you would learn that a lot of what has occurred in the bible has been proven to be true. its only the things that infantile human minds can’t grasp, like noah’s ark, Moses parting the red sea, Jesus rising from the dead, that we quarrel with internally.
