Basically when Beats came out they were _slightly_ better than the “average” headphone but they were never audiophile/studio engineer sound level but aesthetically they looked great, had a big marketing campaign and a celebrity super producer telling you these were the way to go for “true” sound and many bought it. I don’t fault Beats, that’s the free market, that’s why I think Apple ultimately bought the company because no matter how you feel about Beats they had the largest market share and the youth culture, you have to remember audiophiles who know better are in the MINORITY of the population the majority of the masses just follow trends, there you go, the story of Beats.

Brooo I VIVIDLY remember the consumer headphone war of 2013 when beats first got big. Everyone wanted them at school, especially the cool kids... Best part of the whole situation was seeing fellow students embrace OTHER brands like v-moda, audio technica, bose etc.... The thing I noticed about Beats headphones/earbuds was that they were made beautifully but didn’t last long. I remember buying my first pair of Beats earbuds and remember loving how great they looked but they only lasted like a month until the sound went out in one earbud. On top of that these earphones aren’t cheap, those earbuds alone that I bought were priced at around $150+ taxes and that was around 2011/2012. Beats scammed the shit outta Apple with that deal because Beats is nowhere near worth that much considering how no one really cares about it now, ironically people are mainly buying AirPods which Apple created and is now the most popular earphones today. Looking back Apple didn’t even need to make that deal.

I'm curious about where the descriptions at 1:57 of this video are from? Actually, before the Beats by Dre was first launched, there had been several big audiophile headphone companies on the market like Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Grado, Beyerdynamic, Sony, AKG...Many audiophile fans had criticized a lot about headphones by the Beats due to its lack of clarity, too much bass(although a lot of people really like) and high retail prices, which implied that they were not of high quality and not even close to premium. The Beats by Dr. Dre became successful mainly due to its marketing strategy.
@MrR2185

Yeah that part caught my eye, too. Ironically, the image of that guy at the computer, who is supposed to be a sound engineer, I guess....he has a pair of Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro sitting on the desk next to him and those are legit studio headphones and are considered an actual tool for the job...I only recognized them because I have pair myself. The marketing from companies like Beats works because they realized that most people do not do their research regarding products they buy, even if they are costly. This means they sell crap for big prices and most people will not know any better.....even though 5 minutes on google would open their eyes. Example: the DT-770 Pro, an incredible sounding and well built headphone made in Germany, goes for around 140 USD.....The normal wired Beats went from 200 to 349, depending on model, which is nuts to me for how cheaply made and muddy sounding they are. Now they only have wireless I think.

Good video, but you completely missed how Dre & Jimmy “stole” or “out negotiated” the brand & tech from the ORIGINAL creator, Monster (famous for their audio cables). - It’s a million/billion dollar lesson why you should never sign contracts you don’t understand and/or be in business meetings without a very competent attorney (at a minimum) next to you. - I feel bad for Monster… they screwed up royally 🤷🏻♂️

I owned a pair ... for 19 hours ... Got it as a gift ... went to spin at the club the same night ... end of the night ... I was standing by the speakers on the dancefloor as they were loading em back on to the truck ... so it was on top of the speaker .... Turned around to pick em up ... they were GONE ..... Felt bad. Because they were a gift. Not because the sounded good. Personally for me they weren't clear enough overall .. too much bass. Never bothered to buy another pair .... too expensive and not delivering nothing special. Just goes to show how advertising using a famous brand can get millions to fall in line like blind flippin sheep GREAT VIDEO . Salute @KB GOES LIVE

Some years back my senheiser momentum died and i had to get new headphones. trying my brother's beats convinced me to get the evolution of momentum and him to throw his pair. Strange how people always forgets this amazing brand but praises Sony and bose.

The earbuds that came with my third generation iPod that cost $400. Where is the absolute best ones that would actually stay in my ear. They are the ugly ones not the pretty shaped ones, but they actually stayed in my ear, even under bicycle helmet and sunglasses at the same time. This was a big game changer for me so I could ride my bike and listen to music without my ears hurting… Since they’re “upgraded“ they now fall out of my ears again, all of these new earbuds either fall out of my tiny ear holes.

I remember how my dad really wanted one. Even though we didn't make alot of money he always wanted " the best", he bought some laptop with beat speakers integrated for my little brother and I remember it came defected so all the speakers did was play a screeching sound. I also remembered he bought the Beats boombox brand new and they were alright

Beats by Dre was like many other headphones filled with wires that lead nowhere but instead added weight and gave the illusion that they were of a higher quality.

I have noticed that a lot of music that I listen to especially repetitively when I listen to it from the same iPod on expensive speakers it sounds so much better it’s like a relief and like a New World all in one. So I definitely see the Disconnect in producers going above and beyond to create better sounds for no one to hear.

I think that it was the same old speakers, but the sound proof cushions around the speakers allowed you to hear the sound coming out of those speakers that made it better... that's what I think.

my mom got me these before i went off the army basic training. I only used them very lightly for about a week before shipping out. I brought them w me to use after basic. the left ear stopped working. So it went to shit in less than 2 weeks of use. literaly the free apple earphones that used to come with the phones were better than these 350$ trash. honestly for most ppl including my family members and friends, if you've bought these once you never bought another lol

I remember Beats being sold by Monster before Dre was ever involved back in the day. Monster made some questionable decisions and had to give Dre a big chunk of the company, which he eventually sold. Everybody after Monster was just marketing. And it still is.

I got gifted Beats for my birthday back when these were all the hype. I never thought the sound was all that but being that they were Beats by Dre, i think my mind wanted to make the sound better than it was. I babied these damn headphones. And they still stopped working in one ear. I went back to my cheap earbuds and never went back.

Just a few things to note here: - Audio gears back then (earphones/headphones) were never in a 'dying' state, in fact, of all tech peripherals, audio gears are constantly improving since then. The lack of proper commercializing was the only reason why most people in general are completely clueless as to which audio brands or gear should they opt to in range of their budget. - Beats never had the audio quality to justify its price, the people behind it successfully managed to take effective advantage of the continuous marketing hype and gimmicks were people back then get easily enticed and be hooked without researching much before buying. - It's technically the other way around with Apple buying Beats: They are already improving on the audio gears, took the idea of expanding their blueprints using Beats as an extra market space but focuses on their branding first and whatever was effective would be applied to Beat next - typical marketing strategy. - The "Fall" of Beats was not because of Apple but due to audio gears in general (as mentioned on my first statement) had really been improving so much that cheaper versions with a very decent audio quality were more accessible now than ever, and people are becoming more wise into researching first before they deep-dive into something that was just built on hype.

One day they just start falling apart. The foam at the top and sides for head and ear comfort, dry rots and dies. Plastic paint jobs dioxidizes and turn soft smeary clue finish. They're expensive garbage.😢 Skull Canu sounded almost as good for a fraction of the price but, last much longer !!! Wow.
