Do you think a white person with a Chinese name that lived in an African country wouldn't be considered unusual by the general population there? Exactly. Zainam is an unusual name for black British girl; especially one who isn't even Muslim. But most of all her parents probably chose it for that reason--it is unusual. Her sisters are called Cleopatra Madonna and Yonah Mawusi, yet the family is Caribbean. Meaning their parents were clearly not going for convention when naming their children.

The music business is so cruel to young black women in the UK, especially on these so called talent shows, suggesting they are 'divas' to the public is typical, very sad but true, I've seen it happen on X factor to a constant called Misha B (you should look her up guys and hear her story). As a child daughter idolised Cleopatra, because they looked like her, a 'beautiful representation'. To all you youngsters out there, keep fighting to be heard. Peace & Love x

Be quiet. People of all colours wer are treated badly by the industry. Give it a rest. And having worked on a flight as cabin crew where I served this band, the youngest one was a diva. She was extremely rude and talked to the crew like we were beneath her.

Have you ever heard of this French singing duo "Les Nubians"? It was made up of 2 African sisters from Chad I believe. They had a song called "Makeda" that was on the radio in 1998. They might be considered 1 hit wonders, but they put out several albums. Only the 1st and 2nd got any attention in the US I believe. They also had a song called "Temperature Rising" feat. Talib Kweli in 2004.

I had to get the record store to order it for me once I did figure it out. Their first and 2nd album were in heavy rotation for years for me. I'd love to see a rhetrospective look at their careers.Not sure if enough people know them though.

Absolutely. Donna was always pissing people off with her love for black people. I remember her "Like a Prayer" video and she kissed black Jesus. I remember them. Always felt they were really talented and beautiful. The change in style for the 2nd album was very offbrand for them. They had a natural African look to them and then they put those cheap wigs on them for the 2nd album smh. Had them looking generic and unrecognizable.

I remember they sang acapella on either The Vibe show when Sinbad hosted or Keenan Ivory Waynes show. There must have been something wrong with their music and had to do the whole routine without it. They still sounded good and I believe the host said something like, " And you know they can sing cuz they did it all a Capella."

Then I joined their fan club which is how I got to be at the filming of in the house with cleopatra. Such nice girls. Had lots of time for their fans and amazingly talented singers. Happy times ☺️

Cleopatra was a group aimed at kids and then trying to go all adult would never work, plus they didn't really appeal to the urban market as they were pop music so never taken seriously by British audiences as there music would never be played in clubs so they will always be seen as just Cleopatra and pop records with no staying power.

Zenim actually lost custody of her daughter her baby father got full custody of their child and she kinda lost it after that but this was back in 2012 hopefully her daughter is 18 now and back in one another’s lives

In 6th grade, myself and two friends sang their song in the talent show. Everyone but me got shy and you could only hear me. I was mortified. I still love the song and it’s definitely seared into my Memory 😂

Awwwwww I loved their tv show I would watch with my siblings too as little ones it was so lovely to then see especially on British tv a reflection of the women that surrounded me the only other child British mainstream show was pig heart boy at the time, these ladies are BEAUTIFUL(!) 💛💛💛💛💛💛🦋💛💛💛💛💛💛🙏🏿

Those people in the record industry did not do right by them. They were supposed to promote the album but they didn't do it properly at all, cutting some tracks off the album depending on the country or region it was released in. They had to part way due to that
