Dean made the save for a rainy day album in my dad's garage studio. The same garage where Karen and Richard developed their sound as " The Carpenters." I never got to meet Jan but I met Dean some 54 years ago and I have a great deal of respect for him. I just sent him a Merry Christmas email a few minutes ago. Surf's up!!!

In the beginning, Jan & Dean opened for the Beach Boys. Later, they would be a warm up act for the Beach Boys. Dean Torrance also was a graphic designer, designed the Beach Boys logo in the 70's that is still used today by them.

@@garrettdavis6500 goddamn straight. I hearby tell that the reason they're not in the hall is cuz in their heyday they were only part time performers , meaning that it was secondary to their college. & Most'a that to me is malarkey cuz they were crankin' out classics pretty consistently in 63-4. Even tho their formative existence/output gave them a couple years of pavement pounding '63 was The year they solidified themselves easily & '66 was essentially their end in terms of progressiveness but Jan's ordeal obviously explained that; & lastly to me their legacy was/is made an institution because that's what that era was. It Could be debatable but rockNroll had THREE particular half-decade time-frames that encompassed the quality output:: 62-7, 77-2 & 93-7•

He also needs to enunciate better. Instead of saying "Jan & Dean" it sounded like he was saying "Jandean". He also needs to get his facts straight...or at least be more specific. He talks about the cancellation of their film "Easy Come Easy Go due to a rail car incident, then he talks about Jan's car accident leaving him partially paralyzed, and later when referring to the "Filet" of Soul" album, he says that Jan can be seen wearing a cast "as a result of the accident" but doesn't point out WHICH accident". Either he was incorrectly referring to Jan's auto accident or he was referring to the rail car incident that caused the cancellation of their film.

This reminds me of another KZitem channel where the comments frequently bust on the guy because he uses a cheap robot to do the narration. Urging someone to read it themselves may be going from the pot into the fire. Finding someone with a good reading voice is not that easily done. I don't know if it's because schools push kids out and just hand out diplomas to everyone, or because parents aren't interest in raising kids. Maybe it's the water. I work in retail and deal with the public daily. Verbal skills in our society are going to pot. .

Saw Jan & Dean at the City of Torrance Armstrong Theater in the late 1990's. They were hot with an unfortunately partly sour uninspired audience that Dean Torrance tormented as a result. I don't know why, but too many audience members were in black dressy clothes. For Surf Music? I was in suitable surf music attire. (Jeans and sweat shirt & Vans style shoes). Though some were singing with "Jan & Dean" many in the crowd though it was packed, were not responding to their music. Torrance made fun of them about being more like fans a following the next night's venue than his. I, in agreement, yelled a few times at Dean Torrance as I say kind of close to the stage "Hey they are waiting here for tomorrow's show! They are waiting here for tomorrow's show!" I added, "They are spending the night." That was the night of the Chinese troupe "The Peking Acrobats." 🤭😉😏🙃🤢

Back in the very late 1980's, a bunch of friends went up to "Lake Compounce", allegedly America's oldest running amusement park, to catch a "free" concert by Jan & Dean. Um...? Somewhat SAD, to say the least! Obviously, he was BADLY brain damaged, and could barely sing on key. So other band members literally drown him out with their background vocals, kind of like with Shelley Fabares doing "Johnny Angel". It was, um, "nice" that they let him sing, but, um, not really... 😞

You're wrong. There is no Tammy show. The T.A.M.I. Show is a 1964 concert film released by American International Pictures. It includes performances by numerous popular rock and roll and R&B musicians from the United States and England. The acronym "T.A.M.I." was used in the show's publicity to mean "Teenage Awards Music International." Jan and Dean emceed the event and performed its theme song. A little research makes you appear 50% smarter.
