As someone who partially grew up with K-TV back in the 90s, what a trip down memory lane. My mom moved with me to Europe in '95, so I never really got to experience what became of the program after that.

The craziest thing is that I was thinking about KTV out of the blue on Sunday, wondering what came off the presenters and how there's no such thing as presenters these days telling you what's coming up next lol. That was a brilliant trip down memory lane. The follow up video has to be about the MNET presenters like Scot Scott, Ashley Hayden, Mano Padayachee, etc.

Well done on an informative enough piece of research on epic TV nostalgia, respectfully presented too. I was able to show this to my wife to explain that what we had as kids in South Africa with tele entertainment was offered in a unique and very grounded way - kids felt like kids, with our own world of crafted entertainment. Funny thing is my family didn't have the MNET decoder, so my grandparents (who did have one) would bring us "the KTV tape" every Sunday to rewatch Saturdays show. Never missed a beat. Still remember what the VHS label looked like. Long time ago now!

Best time ever! So many beautiful memories. Waking ⏰ up early Sat morning was the best. Running up that flight of stairs where our landline used to be, dialing that famous number (can't remember), cut and repeat until you get through to one of those exciting live games where you win the most brilliant prizes. I got through once, I was so fast with cutting the call and redialling that I cut the call accidentally_that shocked look on my face 😶... 😅🤣. I never got through again. The presenters were awesome and every kids role model and each one at their best, a genuine person. What I loved the most, everything was wholesome and good values taught, nothing was there to taint the kids like today's channels. I played this video for my 10 year old nephew and he said it's cool but seems so strange to this generation. I think K-TV should make its way back the same way. Those games back then were so much better than what we have now. Getting all those presenter together for a show could be a nice start up as well. What do you think? Our kids are missing out.

The bigger issue at large is HOW we consume pop culture and whether it can exist in an ecosystem where individuality is favoured. What you can perhaps share with your nephew (thanks for watching BTW!) is this: if it happens and your friends aren't there to see it, does it exist? That's why KTV is everything.

Now this is a good a question, and one that's been on our minds. As far as we can tell, the SABC has an archive. DSTV, we're not sure about. Keeping old episodes of KTV would mean they would have to update all the licensing from all the programs - otherwise it would just be presenters. But a top ten montage style video is exactly what we need from them. A lot of TV still remains unseen on the internet. If you like, check out @magnetic0memories, they've got a fantastic upload of old VHS. And as far as we can tell, those pages are the best places to find these gems.
