panasonic forgot what their customers wanted and focussed on social media nonsense, real time luts, the app.. making good cameras has taken a back seat. social media for panasonic is them jumping the shark moment. the marketing guys need to all resign as they have recruited a bunch of smooth brain yes men types that claim the newest thing is their fav newest thing. the s9 was launched with autofocus but sold with a manual lens. s5d - why ? gh7 - is a gh6 with phase detect and prores raw - who uses prores raw - cries in davinci resolve. where is the s1hii ? they even relaunched the fz82 panasonic are lost and have really lost touch with their customers and are chasing those smooth brain youtubers and tiktokers

I got the s5miix and the 18 35 and 85mm primes. they are cheap, all about the same size and weight, all the same filter size and they are all weather sealed. They may not be the best lenses ever made or whatever, but its the cheapest way to get a fully weather sealed system. Shot in Shanghai's recent typhoon with the 35mm for a few hours straight. The camera and lens had no issues at all with the heavy downpour. I honestly dont see why I would ever buy another lens (maybe the 50mm....Im not sure Im really hitting it off with the 35mm) and maybe the sigma 28-70 and the 70-200f4 ? I really cant think of anything I ever need out of a camera again. Good AF, good image quality, good drive speed, good stabilization, handheld high res, all sorts of video features Ill never even get close to fully utilizing, etc....I really dont see myself ever buying anything again until this is broken or stolen.

This. I'll admit most of the L-mount lenses getting my interest lately are Sigma, but the S5IIX meets (and beats) the A7SIII at half the price.
@wakuyanow
7 күн бұрын
I'm using the 28-70. I like it pretty well. The focal range gives me some good variety. It doesn't shoot macro, but at 70mm, I can get pretty close and the background is blurred. Pretty good for portraits, too. The fixed f2.8 is great for shooting indoors. I mean, why have a S5ii with a full frame sensor if all your lenses are f4 and greater? Probably lots of reasons, but I guess I'm talking about being able to shoot indoors without having to buy or lug around lights . Things I wish were different. The lens doesn't go wide enough for me. I can hold the camera out and point the lens back at me, but the field of view is tight. And if I'm walking around and need to use stabilization, it cuts off the view even more. I'm thinking of combining this lens with a monopod so I can push the camera further away from me. I consider it a great all-around lens, and I don't have to change lenses when I am out. And not too expensive. Had I infinite money, opportunity, didn't mind changing lenses, and didn't mind carrying lenses, I would have gotten an 18mm Prime, a 100mm Prime (with macro), and 28-200mm for outside variety. I'm just a beginner, though. I don't have experience with anything other than the 28-70mm. I'm probably wrong.
@cheeeeezewizzz
7 күн бұрын
@wakuyanow I like the 18mm f1.8, I think there is a 24 also? The 18mm is only like 500 bucks new, sealed, and very good performance. Great if you need a cheap ultra-wide. I've thought about the 28-70 and the 70-200 f4 for maybe doing some event shootings. I rarely ever need to shoot long so I don't wanna lug the long f2.8 though.
@emancesooh

I have a S1R, 50 1.8, 85 1.8 and the 28-70. Plus a bunch of EF L glass and the MC-21... and a lot of vintage lenses. Most pretty good. If I was going to start from scratch I'd just buy the sigma 18-45mm f1.8, 35-150 samyang, sigma 105 1.4 and something like the Laowa 10mm f/2.8 Zero-D... love the 85 1.8 but think I'd rather have a good ultrawide than another portrait lens. The 28-70 is great, but I'd rather lose focal length and go wider and faster or go for the 28-105.

My guess? Panasonic comes out big in 2025 with a new custom sensor. They take the ARRI-style dual gain conversion readout that they used in the GH7 and move that read logic into a large, full frame sensor. Not sure but I don't not believe that this has ever been done before....by anybody The GH7's sensor matches and beats Sony's latest APS-C sensor in dynamic range. Using dual gain conversion, ARRI gets 17 stops from their super35 chip. "IF" ARRI owns the dual gain conversion patent and they allowed Lumix to use it on MFT?? What if ARRI allows it on a new, custom Panasonic full frame sensor? This would turn the industry upside down in 2025.

They just gave the S5-II, S5-IIx and my G9-II the new software with the new LUT system (no other manufacturer has something like this). On the GH7 it also works great for the Arri-Log system with the Arri LUTs. The new guide-lines for the S9 are great and I hope they will come to the G9-II for the open gate recording (also pretty unique). And it looks like they are going for new sensors independent from Sony. The GH7/G9-II sensor is very good and if they make something like this in FF, it will blow the A7S-III out of the water. It seems to take time but we will see what they come up with. The new lens is definitely necessary for the S9. It's the only usable lens that matches the size. The 20-60 and the F1.8 primes are already a bit large. It should have been ready for the S9 from the beginning tho.

Tbf, i am glad Panasonic isnt assaulting on with major releases every 6 months or so. What i am annoyed about Panasonic with is like they have zero flare for communicating with their customers. I think this nonsense with the weaker forms of their newer camera would be easily solved by them making their intentions clear when they announce the major one to give a roadplan of their derivative cameras so that it actually builds goodwill. Oh, you like the S5IIX but dont need as intense video features and really only need a super minimal second cam, well weve got the s5d. The microcontrast on it is better than their 24-105 as well imho. i would, like all panasonic lens/body pairings, slap a mist filter on it though, but its 67mm so those filters will be cheaper (*and* match their set of primes- which, to your other point, I think theyre focusing on their lightweight niche rn, plus they know most people are reaching for sigma for 1.4 primes these days anyways so the MFC costs might not make sense to them)

So Pannybois selling the s5 again for 1300 now, while I'm trying to sell my s5 and already failing to get prices above 500 dollars? It's like what happened to fujifilm resale value but in the opposite direction.

Actually... The 1.8 primes are really good. And same rendering. They left the 2.8 zooms and the primes 1.4 to sigma (you are the only one hating them) and the supersmall primes also to them. The odd lenses go to Samyang. This little lens renders the 17 F4 and 25 F3.5 from Sigma redundant.

Price wise they're positioning themselves in the mid-tier, and I think it's a very reasonable compromise. If I have $2000-ish to spend on a camera, I can get a gimped body like an R7 or a Zf, or a super-gimped body like the R8 with an RF prime on an adapter, or I can get an S5II which has the handling and options of a professional body, and a native light-weight prime that can focus. The lineup makes sense to me. If I'm ever interested in full frame, I'm probably sticking with Panasonic.

@@sardanapalosI ended up getting the s5iix and the 18, 35, and 85mm primes. They are all cheap good lenses and they are all weathersealed despite their low prices. It's the cheapest way to get a fully weathersealed kit. I went out and shot video during shanghai's recent typhoon with 100+mph winds and heavy downpour and they were fine. They aren't the best lenses ever made I guess, but I'm quite happy with them. Actually my only problem with them is that I'll probably never see a reason to upgrade from them 😅

I sold my Lumix LX10 and some other gear to buy a used Sony RX100m6. Really huge improvement in terms of lens performance and range. Only Lumix I still have are the GM1 and GM5 twice, with Leica glass only. Smallest interchangeable camera system ever made with great performance in terms of sensor and lenses

just from a hybrid shooter's point of view, who is primarily driven by video is can see that munix s system has sufficient ecosystem of lenses, especially the 1.8 primes that are resonablely priced and light and compact, which h great IQ. But for still shots ,yes lumix s is lagging, but I am sure where will come up with something better than what others have, I am sure, there is a lot of R&D going on and sonn we will have more lenses.

I'm sorry but you seem to have gotten out of touch on this one. People are loving their newest cameras. And their lenses are built for those cameras specifically. The 14-28mm and 24-70mm on the S5IIX is an incredible pairing. And that new 18-40mm is an incredible accomplishment. No one makes a lens in that range that's that small and light. And it pairs perfectly with the S9. Not to mention all the Sigma and Leica glass that's out there. If you want longer lenses the Sigma offerings are awesome. They're not going out of business, they're probably booming from what I can tell.

Is it possible to manually tell the S5II X to stay in fullframe mode when using an EF APS-C lens with the adapter on it? Have never adapted a lens before and read about this behavior to auto-crop. I wouldn’t mind that if it’s also possible to tell the camera to ignore that.

I was disappointed that we didn't get an S1Hii announcement, but Im hoping they are just dealing with supply chain issues or something, hopefully related to a brand new sensor, or maybe they just want to get the R&D right. I can wait, but I'm getting restless. I cant imagine that they wont be releasing a new S1H, so Im still holding out hope. We've gotta be getting some info soon.

I have been holding out for the S1ii or S1iix for 3 years. I run and gun half of the time and cinema the other half. I have sit with Panasonic since the DVX100. I don't want any lenses until the at least give us a S1ii with PDAF up to at least 4k 120fps, 6k 60 and 15+ stops off dynamic range. These things would be an acceptable upgrade. This is a more than ridiculous amount of time to wait. My things is i will turn my back on Panasonic if they don't have a buyable S1 successor by February 1, 2025.
