Oh, Jake Heaps. The highest-rated QB recruit in BYU history to that point. He was supposed to turn the program around. What an absolute mess. I don't think BYU has ever had a more disappointing recruit than that guy. The stats you give for his first five games of 2011 really, REALLY do not do justice to how horrendously bad he was. He was responsible for like seven turnovers in a 54-10 loss to Utah that still occasionally haunts my nightmares. Then, he got BYU down against Utah State and we should have lost that one too, but the coaches finally benched him and Riley Nelson came in and won the game.

Phillip Sims was the beginning of the end for Mike London at UVA. The Hoos had a solid 2011 season and seemed to have found their QB with Michael Rocco who had a great sophomore season that year. Then in 2012, Sims transferred in and was immediately eligible and neither he nor Rocco played up to their standards since London kept shuttling them in and out. The next year, they were both gone (Rocco transferred to Richmond) and the team completely fell apart.

This video should be required viewing for the Elite 11 QB's each year. It shows how incredibly difficult it is to make it to the next level after college and, in most cases here, just to be a consistent starter in college at the same school. Not to be a dream killer, but a realistic viewpoint would bring some levity to their situation.
