The user posted an update 5 months ago. The gist of it says that when he was young some people offered him to go to a summer camp for at risk teens, but his parents said no and that it sounded like a cult. That was it. Then a few years later he’d been thinking about it and decided to write a fictional story about what could’ve happened. The update was supposed to insinuate that the cult leaders had gained access to his account and were trying to do damage control. TLDR: He made it up

I was going to say that I thought it was him, but the fact that it said "The message I posted" leads me to agree with you. Of course I would like to analyze everything that the account said and compare how it is written, but idk. Honestly, that last comment sounds a LOT more serious as compared to the more laidback writing of OP. Usually breaking up contraction words is used when there is a more serious or formal tone. In the original text, that was not the case. Unfortunately the second post (the message one) does not have any possible indications of this. The last obviously does. I could also see, if the people had gained access to his account, them asking how to delete it on there possibly to either see what people were saying and also to try to erase any suspicion- obviously that failed, but still. Overall I truly hope they are okay, but from what I see, they either abandoned the account after the people gained access, or are back in that "group" forcibly and being (POSSIBLY) either brainwashed heavily or tortured into compliance.

for the not being able to find information on the cult leader: When people get arrested for morally wrong things, the family of the person can pay a large sum of money for all news articles, posts, and other online things about the person to get deleted and/or covered up. So most likely the family of the cult leader payed a large sum of money to cover any information/news about what he did.

i have a bit of a personal thought on him denying the request for a name. this is also in regards to him possibly having been overly paranoid. i am not a cult survivor, but i was kidnapped and held captive by an organized group, though i was a bit younger. in this story he was a victim of organized abuse. organized abuse shows up in many forms, but there's pretty much always the feeling of being trapped with no escape. with the way he describes them trying to prevent him from leaving with his parents, i feel like he likely did have the feeling of being unable to escape in this story. after experiencing organized abuse in any of its forms, you can definitely end up with some crazy paranoid delusions that feel 10000000% real. it's been over a decade since i got out and almost nightly i still get the intense, intrusive, fight-or-flight inducing thought that members of the group that got me are outside the window, outside the door, even in the vents. and isn't the vent thing ridiculous? i am fully aware that they definitely cannot get to me or even watch me through the vents. yet late at night, i can't sleep unless they're closed because of how real it still feels. i get paranoid that they're tracking me online as well, which is extremely unlikely for them as i don't think they were hackers themselves, especially not on that level. still, i tend to be overly anonymous online with different names and aesthetics for every single profile i have anywhere, not posting photos of myself anywhere, just in case. all my social media, apart from on more anonymous username-based platforms, is private. i use a VPN for anything personal. even in spite of the fact that you can't really reverse search searches, i dare not search or mention names of the group, their works or the members for many reasons, one of them being that i still fear they'll find me if i look it up. i hesitate to write certain words near each other and have developed an odd pattern of speech in type. i also believe it's possible he altered certain details for further anonymity, such as a parallel between the god from the testimonials and the gods he mentioned them worshipping or praying to. i wonder if some of these inconsistencies between his telling and the testimonials could've been purposeful in his need to share this heavy story, and he also mentioned that sharing too much would interfere with the investigation. if teen challenge were indeed the culprit, he could've very well altered those details to avoid his story being directly linked to the group, and it's generally effective in that we still don't know for sure. it's uncertain if the same can be said for how effective it was for the culprit in this story, though. and some more on paranoia. since it's been over ten years for me and i've been in therapy for it, i'm developing the ability to look at those thoughts before the adrenaline and tell myself to think realistically. why would they continuously search for me in particular now, over a decade later? i'm able to tell myself that i know that they're almost definitely not. i don't mean this in a self-deprecating way at all, but i just remind myself that i'm not that special, and it's a comfort. but i could not do that even just 3 years ago. in the moment, and particularly when i was essentially still in the heat of it like he is in this story with the ongoing investigation, i would see those people everywhere. on strangers, authority figures, clerks and even friends out of the corner of my eye, in corners, outside windows, in public, everywhere. it felt like i couldn't get away even when it was technically over. and i still perceive them in my everyday life sometimes. this poster was still in the middle of the investigation in the story, essentially living a life on the run from this organization merely 2 years later, so i feel it's safe to assume was likely experiencing a lot of stress that would hinder his ability to rationalize paranoid thoughts. it's beyond difficult to think realistically when you're battling that kind of monster. like i said, even to this day i still feel so much intense fear about this group who has likely long forgotten about me. however, the extent to which some would go to retain former members or captives is quite frightening. if he really was lured into a cult by this organization and traumatized, especially with a brain that's still developing and with that feeling of no escape, it's entirely possible that he was genuinely paranoid enough to avoid typing the name. hell, the paranoia about leaving the house rings true too, especially right after. just my thoughts and experience with post-captivity paranoia, though. my experience and the poster's story were very different, but it's something that i've found is pretty consistent among a lot of survivors who escape abusive cults, are released from captivity, or were otherwise once at the mercy of an organized and capable group: that unshakeable fear that you're going to end up back in that place because god knows how far they're willing to take it, even if it seems overly paranoid to those on the outside. in the end paranoia serves a purpose, to keep the paranoid safe. in the case that this guy was telling the truth, or even if he wasn't... i do hope he, or the person in the story, is somewhere safe now.

there's actually a third option: the story is real but his account wasn't taken over, he was just pulled back in and started to actually believe in the cult. plenty of people who initially escaped cults are then drawn back for one reason or another, at which point the cult indoctrination works that time, and the victim rescinds their earlier negative statements. edit: also, something like one of the leaders committing suicide wouldn't necessarily draw a lot of attention, because (1) this was likely just a recruitment operation and he was the leader of that specific branch, not the entire cult. and (2) a lot of cults don't draw a lot of media attention anyway. cults survive even in the modern day by staying out of the spotlight. it's completely plausible that this was just a smaller cult that isn't very well known outside of certain circles.

But look at the wording for that last update. No contractions, unlike everything he’s posted previously
@Luminousreign
3 жыл бұрын
Assuming the story is true, because why not, he was probably tracked down either because of the reddit post or through legal means ( the contract thing is a dead giveaway that the cult likes to abuse the legal system) because of the investigation and criminal case against them. He ran away, so his "rerecruitment" was inevitable. There is no way they would give him access to his phone or the internet. Like the story mentions, it is common place for cults to seperate people from their contact with the outside world and while pretending to be said person tell everyone that everything is ok. The only reason they kept the phones and suitcases is because this was a recruitment operation and not actually joining the cult. You could probably leave after 5 weeks if you resisted the brainwashing somehow and actually wanted to. Again, the issue is for sure his running away, not that he didnt join. He is for sure alive and well if story is true and the cult has probably contacted police letting them know that for him. The way it ended actually sells it more not less, because that is exactly what a cult would do. There is no reason to act like that being an unnamed group other than just a cult operating under standard culty robotic procedure and having to let the world know actually everything is great.
@thetalkingfist9482

@@Luminousreign so if they can track him down, does that mean there’s no escape?
@Luminousreign
3 жыл бұрын
@@thetalkingfist9482 if they can track him down he isn’t safe, ever. Absolutely. He ran away, which is the ultimate no-no in the cult world, forcing his compliance is a big deal to a group that doesn’t want people to walk away let alone run. They probably weren’t actively looking for him again before the post though. Cult intimidation tactics are intense and relentless but they don’t last very long. I was put through Teen Challenge against my will for a year. I watched some of the most terrible abuse and discrimination there. One of the most memorable things was praying over a Jewish patient to rid him of the anti-christ and watching fellow workers drop from the flu because they didn't want to pay medical bills. Finally, forcing you up at 3am to memorize scripture and failing to do so will get you completely cut off from your family. This is done to wear you down and keep you from being able to question what is happening to you. I survived only by the willpower of my progressive PO. The events listed above took place in Massachusetts @ the Brockton Teen challenge and the Brockton Probate court.

Also, I've done studies into writing and text psychology, and the language and writing style he uses lines up more with Australian dialect than UK dialect. just my observation.

I immediately thought this too. Australia has been prone to having some very odd cults (the family etc.), and it kind of struck me as a bit naive of people to assume it was in the US. Although I will say that I don't know of anyone that calls the "colleges" in Australia, at least in my area. They're either a Uni or a School.

I know this video is a couple of years old but, I think a more likely group would be "Kenja Communications." It's an Australian-based cult that has been known to target mentally ill young people, taking them to "training facilities" for meditation lessons and some sort of energy conversion. One of the leaders, Ken Dyers, committed suicide in 2007 while on bail, this could also link it to the user's story. This is assuming the story is true and not just made up though.

The tracksuits is classic de-personalisation. Anything or anyone that tries to systematically strip your individualisation and sense of person from you is undoubtedly nefarious. It's often the basis of why racism and prejudice is awful- they have removed the essence of you being _you_ and made you just "One of ____". It's the first step in all cults (and Fascist cults of personality), you remove people's sense of being an indivdual and they are left with nothing but herd mentality. It's the biggest things Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 all have in common- the sense of self is removed (albeit by different methods).

@gonufc
3 жыл бұрын
@@josiahmartinez7674 Actually, in a sense yes. You want to train these people to depend on each other for their lives- you want them to exist as a cohesive unit, not as a group of individuals. That's part of the "Break them down to build them back up" mantra- it doesn't sound pleasant when you talk about this aspect of it though. You are training people to go _towards_ potential death simply because of a sense of duty. You want to kill that little self-analytical voice that says "Hang on a second," so they follow orders before it arrives- the people that keep questioning things are kicked out early. I'm in no way criticising it- it's a method for a necessary profession- but that is part of the reality. It's also one of the reasons so many people who leave the military struggle without the group dynamic- they are cut off from that thing they were taught to treasure almost above their own lives.

This is actually an interesting point about school uniforms. A lot of schools past and present train children to be an ideal citizen. You are taught from as young as 5 years old to not steal, don't hit people, don't tell lies, trust your parents and teachers. These things are innocent enough. But in some places it can be more controlling. Even in the USA, I believe they forced students to recite the national anthem everyday (maybe not anymore, I don't live there so); they are taught to not question their country and that it could do no wrong. People who refuse (a notable example is Kaepernick taking the knee during a game) are treated like criminals for breaking the mold that no one has questioned since they were 5 or 6 years old. This is very obviously the case in places like North Korea and China, but people underestimate just how much it still goes on across Europe and the USA. Here in the UK most primary, secondary schools have a uniform. But I believe in places like the USA, uniforms are mandatory in religious schools. Because religion being forced on by unknowing children is just a form of control.
