I worked on a cruise ship as a youth staff…around dusk saw two teenagers doing handstands off the railing of the top track level and ran over to them to stop them. One guy told me “what? it’s just water if I fall.” I told him you could break bones this far up and 2nd this ship can’t just stop to find you and what if it circles the wrong way and you get crushed or sucked under?? They look stunned. Anyway, I marched these kids to my manager. He called their parents and his dad cried when he found out and confronted his kid. I feel happy to know I possibly stopped a tragedy from happening that night.

My very first cruise was when my mom got married on the cruise, I was a young adult so I drank a little too much and woke up the next morning in my mother's room, yes on her honeymoon night i crashed them. I found out, id slept walked across the ENTIRE SHIP n knocked on their door and crawled in their bed, our room was on the opposite side of the ship. I once gave a ride to the captain of a very large cruise ship. He is on that ship for 6 - 9 months each year, touring the Caribbean and South-east Asia. He said on average 1 - 2 people go missing on each tour. Normally they notice when someone repeatedly does not show up for meals, then they go looking for him. Sometimes they find a s**cide note in the cabin, sometimes not. THEY DON'T EVEN LOOK FOR THEM ! Because he said the ocean is too vast, the chances of finding a person are so slim it's not worth it. There was a moment of silence in the car when he said that. I assume / I hope that they still stop when there are witnesses who see the person jump overboard. But when they find out days later that a person is gone, it's probably too late anyway.

A few years back our family and friends all went on a cruise ship. All of a sudden we heard a loud siren. We thought nothing of it since it looked like no one was panicking and what not. But 1 hour later 1 helicopter was over looking our ship and we were frightened, not only was there a helicopter but the ship was turning around for hours. Soon later we were informed that someone has gone overboard. Unfortunately when she was found, she died at the hospital.

I was on a cruise where a staff member went missing. Sadly he did go overboard during the night and the ship did turn around but because they didn’t know what time he was lost, there was no hope. Our rooms were all searched one by one in the hope that he was just fraternising with a guest. Another staff member I talked to on that cruise said some of the staff are on those cruise ships for many months on end for poor pay….and they miss their families. I was watching an episode of "Evil Lives Here". This was one of the saddest things I have seen. This guy who was telling the story was the son of a serial killer growing up. When he was 15 years old, the father decided to leave the US because the cops were suspicious about his last murder. So he took his two sons to Belize, bought a sail boat and took tourists to different locations which could take a few days or a week crossing the ocean. This couple from England had just graduated college, she was an attorney and he was a doctor. But before they started their careers, they wanted to take six months and backpack across several countries. Unfortunately, they ran into this serial killer and his two sons. When they got out to sea, the serial killer hit the guy over the head as he was pulling up the anchor. The girl was in the cabin and saw the scuffle on deck and ran up. The serial killer pulls a knife, then ties their ankles together and ties their wrists and puts bags over their heads. He tells them that he's not going to kill them but let them go when they get close to land by throwing them overboard in knee deep water where they will be able to stand up. Instead he turns the boat around and heads out to the middle of nowhere where he throws them both overboard. The guy telling the story who was 15 at the time said he wanted to save them but what could he do? He's out in the middle of the ocean with his dad a serial killer and he had no doubt that his dad would have killed him and his younger brother too. He said they watched the bubble come up, then stop and after three minutes as the serial killer is looking at his watch says " they're dead". And that was it. They were so young and such a good looking couple who had a great future ahead of them. Their bodies washed up on shore three days later but went unidentified for 30 years until the son was able to finally get the authorities to listen to him about what his father did to them on that fateful day. The episode was called something like "Out To Sea". You can never be too careful when going to a remote place with a stranger. But who would have thought when you see the Dad with two young sons, he was a great manipulator and all of his murders were money motivated.

My boyfriend and I went to Costa Rica. They told us not to leave the resort unless we were with a guide, but I let my boyfriend convince me it would be ok to take a taxi to this small town not far away. We found this American guy who took tourists out on his boat to snorkel or whatever. After talking to him about cost, etc...we were ready to go. Then I got this feeling in my gut that told me do not get one a boat with a stranger from a small village in a foreign country. This guy could have been a felon for murder who fled the US and was on the run. I honestly believe if we had gone we wouldn't have returned. So then we started walking around and looking at souvenirs and we were being followed by several shady looking people. This town was really small, it had one road with small shacks and I'm sure no policing. The locals looked like they were pissed at us. We got the hell out of there pretty fast. My dummy boyfriend was totally clueless. Needless to say, it was over with him before the vacation even ended.

And the worst part is the fact that some cruise lines don’t limit the amount one can drink. I was recently on a cruise where there was no limit. Went on a cruise ship went on top to the golf course and the wind was blowing crazy and powerful out in the middle of the ocean I grabbed my sister and got back down inside. Cruise ships should eliminate that because that wind could easily snatch someone off that ship especially a younger or smaller person. I’m 5’10 225 I felt the tug and got me my sister from up there. Them ships move at a pretty high clip plus the wind from the ocean definitely not a safe place to be for drunk person or unaware people.

Our green squadron maint. vest were easy to spot but it still took almost 3 hours before we were plucked from the drink. What's crazy is we had birds in the air already but they sent the Navy's UH-1N, that's used for this type of thing. We joked for years that our own squadron couldn't be bothered to pick us up, they were just too busy at the time...lol.

They could solve this easily by giving everyone a tracker bracelet and having a 24/7 live system which triggers an automatic red alert to a dedicated onboard emergency response team if anyones tracker should happen to stray more than 100 metres from the ships geometric footprint. The most obvious two methods of rescue would include a small contingent of helicopters kitted out with buoyancy aids so that the pilot and his team can set down in close proximity to the stranded casualty, alternatively the cruise ship could be modified so that it is capable of quickly deploying several high speed dedicated rescue seafaring vessels in order to quickly recover and return the stricken casualty back onboard the main ship. In order to do this some specialised bays would need to be designed into the cruise ship to both quickly and easily deploy and re-integrate the small rescue vessels as effortlessly and efficiently as possible. The reason this is not already currently in place is twofold, firstly because these instances are uncommonly rare and secondly probably because the cost of such adaptions are considered prohibitive . . . when considering the money that such operators can make annually though, these failsafe rescue programs should already be in place in my opinion.

While we were on a cruise ship night visibility was zero beyond the ship's lights. The thought was, a fall overboard was 99.9999 percent fatal. We avoided the edges and rails of that ship.

The fact people need this video just to convince them not to jump off a cruise ship is wild

I was on a cruise where a passenger jumped off from on of the higher decks, the thing is they decided to put on a life jacket before jumping. Because of the life jacket the impact with the water was soo severe they actually died. The ship was docked at one of our ports of call and while we were having breakfast ready to go off on the island, we could see the body floating around in the water beside the ship. They ended up lowering one of the dinghies to go pick up the body and was stored in the ship’s morgue until returning to the home port in Miami. I heard rumours on board that this man was fighting with his wife all trip and finally got into a serious fight with his wife and threatened to jump overboard and he actually did it. I don’t know if thats 100% true because they tried to cover it up as much as possible to avoid ruining other passengers trips, but many passengers claimed to have seen this couple having some pretty nasty arguments all around the ship *Another story* I know a young family that went on a cruise. A 3 year old child, the parents and also the grandfather. The parents went off to do something and left the child in the care of the grandfather. The grandfather took the child to the top deck to watch the ship sail away 16 decks up. The child was apparently complaining they couldn’t see anything and the grandfather lifted her up and held her on the railing. I don’t know what happened exactly but the child fell off the railing and all the way down into the water. The grandfather instantly went into a panic and told the workers of the ship and shortly they had the ship stopped. And they started looking around the ship for the little girl. Unfortunately when they found her body she was not alive. I can’t imagine what that grandfather felt after making that serious of a mistake, accidentally killing your own kids child. I have heard a few other stories but these were the most serious ones. The other stories I heard the people survived. But just soo you know jumping off the ship is not only seriously dangerous and stupid, if you survive or they manage to find you it will also get you arrested, charged and banned from any future cruises

@@Makado14 I am sure it sounds kind of funny eating breakfast while watching some body floating around, but was a crazy experience. It’s very rare for something like this to happen. I have been on 26 cruises and it only happened on one. Every other cruise had zero issues

If the cruise takes place at the caribbean then yes. But on the Mediterranian this is a bit slim. Mediterranian doesnt have many sharks even on deep waters. They are rare whatsoever

There was a man PUSHED off by his angry wife on my latest Bahama Cruise. Apparently she wasn’t happy with his casino loss. They arrested her in Freeport and he went home in a body bag. We heard him hit the Deck below after hitting a suspended life boat from their balcony. Remember that alcohol, bank accounts, casinos and relationships sometimes apparently don’t mix for some passengers! Now we can’t get the sound from our minds hearing that while trying to sleep and enjoy a vacation.

I was on a cruise ship last year where someone fell overboard. We turned around and searched for him for an hour or two. Unfortunately we found him floating in the water dead. It was a memory I’ll never forget. I saw him floating and watched the helicopter lift his lifeless body out of the water. 😢

I saw a kid jump off a cruise ship on a dare. The video was circulating on Twitter. He must have been on drugs and alcohol I can’t conceive any other way that anyone in their right mind would do something so dumb. He jumped unknowingly into heavily shark infested waters at night time. They never even found a body, and after he jumped you can hear people laughing and joking about it. If only someone had the sense to stop him.

I remember that one. He had just graduated and was on a dinner cruise in the Bahamas. His friends threw a life preserver in the water, but he swam the opposite direction because of the sharks nearby. Poor soul😪
