sure that safety regulations have been updated, the design of these ramp ends have changed significantly since 2006

All this safety measures preventing elimination (by killing) of crappy drivers.

True. Same goes for airbags, ABS etc. All these stupid warning levels everywhere. Just remove them and let Darwin do his job!

A rally colleague of mine hit an alcove barrier with no end stop, it sliced through the car, despite having a roll cage, and killed his co-driver. So I fully support having the cushioned end stop ...

In the US, those "crash cushions" are the norm. I'm surprised they're not as commonplace on motorways elsewhere!

As a road engineer, i know that the turned down ramp end is deliberately designed to launch the car into the air for safety reason. If it's not turned down, the solid barrier would punch through the car and maybe the occupants at high speed. And which one do you think is more deadly? The car could be thrown off the road and roll, but it's less fatal than hitting a solid object at 70

both are dangerous. modern ends are made to crumple so exactly what you said doesn't happen

Just pay attention to where you’re driving. This is exactly what’s wrong with today’s society: everything needs to be made of foam because we can’t take responsibility of our own actions. And I’m sorry, but all these costs to reduce the chance of 1 fatality every five years is just not worth it, how cruel that might sound.
