The weather has been WACKY this week across the US! Have you been in the heat too? A few minutes of attention can help you avoid plant disaster. Using an inexpensive moisture meter like this will give you a better idea of how your soil moisture is being affected: amzn.to/2F51yrf

Thanks for the video! I mulch my trees ultra-heavy, like at least 12 inches over the entire orchard. I get zero weeds. I flood each tree basin with the hose for 2 minutes when watering, and they can go over 3 weeks without showing any water stress. This past week we got up to 111F and some baby trees got sunburned but otherwise they did fine. Check out my channel for videos. Also I would love to see you break up that concrete pad ;[

South Florida heat is not 120F intense, but the 1000% humidity is a punch in the face every time I walk out the door. With the heat index we have gotten to 105F recently. In the summertime, it rains soooo much that moisture retention is not an issue usually. Wintertime droughts will kill most small trees without mulch, though. Perhaps regulating soil temp and nutrient breakdown and retention would be the best reasons to mulch where I am I think. Then of course moisture retention in the “winter”.

Agreed! It helps to temper the extremes in a person's microclimate, as well as supporting the microfauna and flora in the ground.

I just put another layer of mulch on mine. It's more than a foot. Probably close to two honestly.
