When ever I was in school, I would always be able to hear the short click before each fire drill, so I would almost unconsciously register the fire drill a split second before it happened. Sometimes I would head sounds like it from time to time, and my heart would just stop for a second, even though it wasn’t the fire alarm

*Fire Alarm PTSD*
@jacobfountain8063
Жыл бұрын
That was how I would get that eerie feeling of when the alarms would go off back in my elementary school days. Because I have a tough time as an adult with sensory overload, loud noises, like crashes, bangs, or alarms jump scare me when I least expect it. When that happens I automatically tense up and go into fight or flight mode without warning its almost bad lol. Another one is chirping smoke detectors. I was terrified of them as a kid but once I hit my teens I've become "annoyed" of them and now as an adult I have to work around smoke detectors changing batteries/testing them/replacing them at certain intervals. It's tough when you have PTSD from that sort of thing. Sorry for drawing it out but I can relate to your comment 110%

Very informative! Being close to the city, (Correct me if Im wrong) Im pretty sure elevator recall works in commonly 2 different ways. One way it can be triggered from a smoke detector in the elevator lobby (If its wired that way) or it can be activated alongside with alarm activation. Basically, It cancels all elevator call buttons, and it is then to go to ground level automatically. Here it is where it will remain until panel reset. If a fire fighter wants to use it, they use a special key to turn it to phase 1. This will allow them access inside the car. Inside the car, they put a second key in to phase two where they can operate the elevator. It goes more in detail if you just search fire recall on youtube theres some awesome videos out there. Theres a bunch of other ways elevators can be wired to fire alarm systems. The main point is that it disables all call buttons and goes straight to the ground floor. Just a crash course- correct anything that is wrong

One minor clarification though, elevator fire service phase 1 is automatically activated ONLY by a smoke detector in the elevator lobby, the shaft, or the machine room (if there is one). Pull stations or any other smoke detectors will NOT put an elevator into fire service. And believe me, this is actually code. It allows the fire brigade to determine whether or not it’s safe to use the elevator to travel up to the fire floor.

I realize this video is two years old but to answer basic questions of elevator recall most modern elevators have an icon inside that looks like a firefighter's helmet which lights up and the elevator will typically sound the alarm that goes off if you hold the doors open too long and the elevator will go to a designated recall floor typically the main lobby or the basement as a backup. When the elevator reaches that floor the doors open and no one can use it until the FD or building maintenance resets it.

I’m not sure about the air systems thing..My high School Eastern Guilford (there are videos on here on KZitem of the fire). It was mentioned that the air system was still on even after the alarms activated and everyone evacuated. The power was cut to the school but the generators turned on and continued powering the air system and contributed to the spread of the fire

Air handling system should’ve shut down but in older buildings codes were not as strict so systems may not have been in place to shut it down
@robrown7656

You are correct. The codes are a lot different in newer buildings. My high school was built in 1974 and it sprinklers were not even required at that time. They said sprinklers would have contained the fire to the room it started in and it would not have burned down like it did. Its a shame tragedies have to happen for such drastic changes to be made.
