For Earth Day..............What Have They Done To The Rain is a song written by activist Malvina Reynolds in 1962 as part of a campaign to stop nuclear testing in the atmosphere which was producing fallout, contaminating the rain, the food supply and the inhabitants of earth . Since then we have had the nuclear accidents and lingering radioactivity of Chernobyl 1986, and Fukushima, 2011. This cover was performed by The Searchers in 1965 and it reached number 29 on the Billboard Chart in the USA
What Have They Done To The Rain
Just a little rain falling all around
The grass lifts it's head to the heavenly sound
Just a little rain, just a little rain
What have they done to the rain
Just a little boy standing in the rain
The gentle rain that falls for years
And the grass is gone, the boy disappears
And rain keeps falling like helpless tears
And what have they done to the rain
Just a little breeze out of the sky
The leaves nod their head as the breeze blows by
Just a little breeze with some smoke in it's eye
What have they done to the rain
Just a little boy standing in the rain
The gentle rain that falls for years
And the grass is gone, the boy disappears
And rain keeps falling like helpless tears
And what have they done to the rain
What have they done to the rain
