Why do I love France so much? The food. It has got to be the food. You cannot have great food without great people.

Seems like our Pot Roast. What would also be good is cutting a think slice of French bread, lightly toasting it in the broiler, then putting the beef and gravy over it with the potatoes on the side. Yum 😋

I have an old recipe that Le Creuset put out years ago for beef cheeks. I’m a vegetarian but I make it often for my son and he loves it. I put the gravy over rice for myself. The heavy enamelled pot is perfect for something that needs long slow cooking. I haven’t marinated my beef in cider before but I will next time.

Hey Sean, my condolences on the Queens passing. now, your recipe looks delicious, but I have never sauteed meat in butter, I have however sauteed veggies in olive oil and butter because olive oil burns easy on high heat. I will make this later in the season and report back on well (or not so well) I made it, 'Delizioso" Sean. Hi to Sam and her MUM. Love from NY.

There are two (at least) fabulous cook books about real French cooking. One is "Flavour of France" by The Chamberlains. The other is Len Deighton's "Ou est Le Garlic?" The Len Deighton (he is really a crime writer, but this is a work of genius!) has absolutely explained French cuisine . They are available on the second hand book sites. The English version of Len Deighton was out of print and an entrepreneur in America decided to republish it, thank goodness. These are not 'recipe books' in the English sense, "Flavour' does contain recipes, but no mention of quantities and Deighton is a cartoon explanation of the classic methods that underly all French cooking. My Nearest and Dearest bought them for me when we were first married very many years ago and they taught me all I needed to know about French Classic Cuisine. I had no idea they were so seminal until Julia Child mentioned them. The Flavour of France is basically from their cook's recipe book, she was from Burgundy. There are some Normandy recipes). You will love the pictures of France as we remembered it sixty years ago, but it hadn't changed then very much from the time The Chamberlains lived there. They had 24 hours to leave ahead of the German invasion and left everything behind, except their cook and the recipe book !

Wonderful vlog Sean! I had beef cheeks from my Mexican husband. They have the most wonderful flavor and softer texture than regular beef. It can be compared with filet mignon, but the beef cheeks have so much flavor. And I would think inexpensive. As a white person I had never experienced beef cheeks and I don't think I have ever seen them in a grocery store either. But I want to find them now and make this dish! I felt like I could taste it! Yum❤️
