Regarding Prey: They weren't speaking English. What we heard was English but it was established in the begining that they were speaking their native tongue. This same device was used in the great Judgement at Nuremberg (not a horror film).

last night i watched a movie called “black bear” starring aubrey plaza and i would LOVE to hear your take on it. if you haven’t seen it, it’s a very atmospheric and sort of artsy drama that almost feels like a psychological thriller without actually having much of any thriller aspects to it, which i just have to admire even though i’m still very confused about the movie. i can’t decide if i like it or not because truthfully i have no idea what it was supposed to have happened in it, but the acting, the score, the cinematography, the dialogue, and basically all of the technical components to it were just utterly fantastic so i feel like it has to have some sort of glue that i just can’t see because it’s too well done to just be lazy open ended writing (or at least im hoping). besides not really understanding it, it was still very entertaining. trigger warning for abuse regarding a pregnancy though. it’s mostly verbal but there is a scene that gets physical and i’m not sure if it was supposed to have been a miscarriage or not but either way it was difficult to watch so keep that in mind in deciding to watch it. would love to know if you have any theories or opinions about this movie!

I had the same gripe with Prey. She was too good in EVERY aspect. Killed the realism (however realism works in my eyes when regarding a movie that couldn't be farther from real haha but you get the point) One key scene in particular absolutely ruined it for me: she takes a blow from Predator's shield when moments earlier we witness trees being split and a boulder being smashed to bits by the same shield.

People liked Prey because their expectations were absurdly low but it wasn't quite as bad as what they were expecting. It's not that great of a movie, but it was somewhat entertaining, reasonably well paced, and the lead character seemed like the worst idea ever on paper, but ended up being totally watchable, in part because she was well cast, I think. You can see that they were aware of the Mary Sue problem. She does have weaknesses and vulnerabilities. She doesn't just appear with super powers and kicks everybody's ass effortlessly. She spends a good portion of the film running away from the predator because she doesn't stand a chance. The plot itself turns on the idea that it's her cunning and intelligence, rather than her badassery, that gives her an edge and makes her victory in the end somewhat plausible if you try and suspend disbelief. Because it had stuff like that in it, you were kind of rooting for it to be a better film than what it was. It had underdog appeal, especially for those of us who are tired of being preached social justice gospel in films directed at us, but are also equally tired of hating those films and complaining about them. It's possible there's a bit of Stockholm Syndrome at work here. It's like you're watching the movie and thinking "dude, I really want to like this movie, just don't f*ck it up" and I think they delivered for the most part, hence the decent reviews. For all the problems Prey has, it's easily the the 2nd or 3rd best Predator sequel because all the others are so bad, except for the 2nd one. I actually liked Prey better than the 2nd one, but there's probably room for disagreement there. Also, Resurrection is the best movie of 2022 so far, imo. Loved it.

Prey was a great predator movie. If your not a fan of the movies or seen any of them of course a review ain’t gonna be a positive one. It was better then I thought it would be because of the last one. And they did it the franchise justice in my opinion.

Lol what? Prey is easily one of my favorite films of the year. It matches the original Predator's suspense into crazy action.

It's one of the best of the year imo. And also extremely accessible for people not familiar with the franchise.

Love the predators saga. A Prey you're the best one we got a couple years.

I recognize this trend "strong single woman of color with 3 kids" on netflix. It makes the character really fake and boring because you already know she gonna beat someones ass... oh man ....like can we not overdo things please? 😅

I thought under the skin was beautifully done. Only thing I would remove is the r*pe scene
