Ehh, maybe 1st time was good. But after a 2nd or 3rd time, it sort of felt like a bit of missed potential. I thought the whole mob plotline wasn’t executed very well, and understanding Javi’s motives for wanting Cage in his movie felt a bit over the place. HOWEVER, maybe one small change could’ve fixed this. So here it goes: The movie plays out as a fantasy, where Nicolas Cage wished he was never an actor. I actually liked how like the first act showed that he put it acting before his family leading to them be estranged and not wanting anything to do with Cage, since he failed to be there for them. Cage even is coming to terms that he’s just a has-been, and nobody is going to hire him anymore and that it’s time to hang up the cape. But seeing that he’s left with nothing else, and will lose everything, Cage takes it hard to face the music. That same night, Cage receives in the mail one of the old film props from one of his films, that he gave to his daughter when she was little (Let’s just say it was some thing meant to be magical from one of Cage’s). After reading the letter saying she’s done with him, Cage upsettingly wishes that he never was an actor. The next day, Cage wakes up, but only to see that his wish came true. He’s living in the middle-class suburbs with his wife and daughter, is a good father, and working as a car tire salesman (A nice little nod to The Family Man). However, this means that nobody (except the Coppola family) knows who he is, and all the movies that were made never happened/existed. Here we can get even some ideas as to who would have played Cage’s characters in said movies if not him. Hollywood now has become a bit lame, since every movie feels the same and not interesting (let’s even throw a line about how everything is being rebooted and remaked, whilst poking fun at the fact that this movie itself is one.). One day, Cage is fixing a car tire for a man named Javi, a struggling screen writer who is trying to find the right actor to be in his movie, kinda similar to what Javi’s movie plot is like in the story. After a bit of a fight to which Cage causes to let out some rage, Javi actually becomes impressed, asking Cage how does he make the faces he does. Seeing that he may have potential, Javi begs Cage to star a the lead character in his movie, to which Cage is reluctant at first (I don’t know about whether or not we should have Cage tell his wife.), but seeing that this can be both a financial success, something he can play in, and be a change to prove to Hollywood otherwise, takes the offer. And from there, the rest of the story happens. The movie sort of an away plays out like Last Action Hero (1993) and The Family Man. Except this time, you could use Nicolas Cage not existing to play into some great reason to why people really need him.

Very fun movie to watch, and I love the Sam Raimi flavor to it, but there are just a few story aspects that really bug me. • Sonic 2 - 6/10. Enjoyable for what it is, but not mind-blowing to me or anything. Harmless fun. • King of the Hill - 4.5-8.5/10. About halfway through season 4 on this. There are a lot of great episodes, but also there are also a lot of episodes that kind of irk me (mostly because of Peggy). • Chip 'n Dale - ?/10. I'll be frank, I was super high when I watched this so I barely followed what was going on. I had the absolute time of my life, but also I probably can't give it a fair rating.

I really don't think Men leaned into it's obvious messaging as much as you think - and would even argue that it was actually pretty damn tongue in cheek, despite it's graphic material. I'm pretty confident Garland knew exactly what he was doing with using heavyhanded broad metaphors and than twisting them so you're not sure how you feel. I certainly didn't leave the theater thinking "men bad", but rather that it was a very creative and effective way to put to film what is a sadly common story. It almost felt like a intentional lambasting of what your typical chudbrained antifeminist would assume this movie was.

I also don't get the criticism that the message of that film is "le men bad". I thought it was about the guilt she felt. Everyone thinks otherwise lol. But maybe that was the intention?

I started the month with Turning Red, which I really liked. I really don't understand most of the debates around this movie. Next I watched Sonic 2. I really didn't like the first, but I absolutely loved the second. Not sure how I enjoyed it this much more. It still has a lot of the same issues, but I guess I don't care about that when it's in an actual Sonic movie instead of a generic guy-and-cgi-character movie. Next I watched Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Really not sure how I feel about this one. It was absoultely not what I expected. The title really oversells it, with the multiverse not being much more than the trippy magic scene from the first movie. Also, so many people hyped up a lot of fanservice and cameos that did not even remotely happen. I really liked the villain and the horror elements that come from them. I feel like I need to watch it again to fully form an opinion. Next I watched Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, which I really did not like. The humor just wasn't for me, the fake 2D animation was really ugly, and I think it's disgusting how Peter Pan's backstory heavily parallels his original voice actor's life, except Peter Pan turns into a villain. I genuinely don't know how that was allowed, and there's no way that everyone involved didn't know. Lastly, I decided to watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit, since a lot of people were comparing it with Chip and Dale and I had somehow never seen it. I thought it was way better than Chip and Dale, and it's really dumb that Roger Rabbit looks better considering how old it is

My mums interpretation of "Men" was that "The director clearly hates woman" while I certainly thought the movie was trying to say "Men bad", I just thought her perception was really interesting.

Men is not about Men being bad. All of the Rory’s represented aspects of her husband. I knew that ending was coming even before the birth scenes cause it was so obvious by the 40 minute mark(as for the religion, it was a dead giveaway that the men were her husband. He brings up church and vows). That being said, it was a meh movie with great cinematography.

I love the copy and pasted review of Men lol
@chrisolivera7742
2 жыл бұрын
I personally don’t think Men was trying to say that men are bad, my take away was that people would put their significant other through pain, strife, and make them suffer all just cause they desire their love, and they do this almost unintentionally in a immature way. I think for the plot this movie focuses on a women and follows her story and it was husband (a man) who puts her through all this craziness simply cause he desires her love, it feels childish coming from a grown man. Thus why the movie is called Men, cause her husband being a man puts her through tremendous pain for her love. I get this from one of the last lines when she asks her husband why she did all this, and he says for your love. I don’t think it was trying to say men are bad, I feel like that is a shallow meaning and a shallow take away but I understand why ppl get that. I’d love to hear what others think and if anyone agrees with me, or if you disagree with me, why?
@esock2001

… I genuinely don’t understand how you arrived to this interpretation lol.
@chrisolivera7742
2 жыл бұрын
@@esock2001 I arrived there from the last line where her husband said that he did all this cause he wanted her love. It’s ofcourse not explained what was really going on and what that person shifting entity was, and it’s not explained so it’s open to interpretation and that’s my interpretation. I don’t think this movie at any point is trying to say “men bad”. She talks to her dead husband at the end after the whole pregnancy type sequence, so we can interpret that this naked dude following her was just her dead husband. (This is my take away, I think you can interpret that in anyway you seem fit as long as it makes sense to you, but it’s not really clarified, but I don’t think they just added a naked man following her around for like an aesthetic or whatever, I think they show her husband at the end cause it’s supposed to be her husband. I think of it as like her husband cursed her as he died). So his last line tells me he did all this and followed her around and scared her and put her through all this craziness cause he desired her love. And the movie ends shortly after. I think that the point was to show how people can put their loved ones through tremendous amounts of pain just cause they desire their love. That people would do anything even it meant hurting the very person they desire love from, just so they can still keep the person to themselves. I think this is much more fitting then the main take away being that men are bad. I hope this made sense, it’s kinda messy to understand so sorry if my comment didn’t help you to understand my point of view but I love to hear your take away :)
@esock2001
2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisolivera7742 I acknowledge that’s your interpretation but I believe it is incorrect and not the intended message of the director. Naked man walking around is actually in reference to paganism. Look up “Green Man” for more information. I also took that to symbolize “the nature of man”. He was naked and had foliage growing out of him so it’s literally the nature of man. Also, the last sequence of the film basically demonstrates that this nature of man has been passed down for generations. These harmful men birthed other harmful men, and it has affected women to this day. The husband saying “for your love” is an indictment of how hurt/harmful men think they can just take a woman’s love without considering the damage they’ve done. On top of that, I hope you noticed that all of these worst injuries the husband and the other men have were self-inflicted, and then blamed on the woman.
@chrisolivera7742
2 жыл бұрын
@@esock2001 Yes I did notice the self inflicted injuries! But I’m glad you told me, I wasn’t familiar with the green man, I’ll certainly look into it. Definitely changes my perspective on the movie!
