"And with my five months, that basically makes me a master..." omg I love a good, dry sense of humor! lol Love it! But in all seriousness, this was a really helpful guide. I feel like advanced skaters won't give cheaper skates a fair chance, and I felt like you gave a really fair review and pointed out that if you're trying it out or not ready to upgrade, there's nothing wrong with sticking to what you have. Thank you for pointing out that the Moonboots are black owned! When I'm ready(: to upgrade my Bunnies, I'll have those on the top of my list!

In the skate world, there is a VAST difference between "cheap" and "inexpensive". Skating for 47 years and having over 20 pairs myself, all of mine are the inexpensive to moderate prices (none of mine are more than $350, cheapest was originally $85, that I got on sale for just $62). Definitely go for those cheapER skates, just make sure they're not CHEAP skates. Skip any listed as "Double Row Roller Skates", "Side by Side Skates", etc. or ones that don't have a specific brand listed...and even if they DO have a brand listed, investigate that company! C-7's are great for beginners, and usually only around $80-$120. Epic brand...I LOVE my Epic Nitro's...4 years of use, including rink, outdoor, and a season of derby!)...are around around the same price point (specifically, the Nitro's typically run around $80-$95). Most known brands (Riedell, Sure-Grip, Chaya) have many models from inexpensive to YIKES!...but even their inexpensive ones are still stable, sturdy, and reliable for beginners. Once you learn to roll, have a good grasp on a couple methods of stopping, and maybe backward skating and/or a couple "basic" tricks (if you want to go beyond "just the fun of rolling"), you'll definitely want to upgrade, though...be it the wheels, stops, or boots...if not the full skate itself.

OMG! I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL! 💕 I just this month caught a few videos on people SKATING at the roller rink! I had no idea people still went skating anymore... WOW! I miss skating. My brothers are into skateboards and by then my skates had been put up YEARS AGO, so it never dawned on me all the types of wheels and everything. Somebody gave me a used beat up pair of skates when I was younger, boots, heavy, probably indoor wheels, I can't remember. I used to tear it UP on my block. I NEED to do this again. I'm in good enough shape, I can still do this. I'm enchanted by all the skaters on Skatelyfe channel, they're so fluid, they're seriously superstars. And lastly, you are absolutely lovely! 🌹 Thank you for this video. Stay blessed, healthy, happy, safe and prosperous. ✨🕊

1:06 GIRL. the adhd thing is so real. i don't necessarily aggressively pursue to the point of being sick of it but i do an info run like MAD and just suck in all sorts of deets, history, mechanics, research, etc etc (so become a quasi expert in whatever). also looking at your 2 guitars.... i started and then bought SO MANY. couldn't stop. (artist thing, partly). and then i started skateboarding and bought 2, and trying not to buy a 3rd. mentality is "but how do i KNOW stuff without really exploring the nuances????! i'll get 3 diff board setups, diff trucks, and later will know what i like if/when upgrade, since completes are cheaper. and what if some are easier than others to start on?" ......... yeah, it's a problem. but only because money and space are finite.

Thanks for your sensible take on skate choice. Sixty years ago, when I was ten years old, I learned how to roller skate. I skated every time I had the chance until I got my first drum set. And that put an end to skating. That happened around age 12 and I never put on a pair of skates again. About a week ago I saw a pair of Bont quads on Amazon and it sparked an old flame. They were flats, had good reviews and affordable. I ordered a pair and now brimming with excitement waiting for its arrival. Also wondering if I can pick up old skills where I left off like cycling. I'm physically active riding a fixie and that should suffice for the stamina required to skate. There's a covered basketball court that is seldom used a few steps away from where I live and that will be my venue to reacquaint myself.

I haven’t been to a rink in 30 years; do skaters still add skate poms? Fun laces? Are there laces we should avoid? Can we loosen wheels on kids skates if the wheels don’t spin well? I want to order the Lollys and I kept telling myself I shouldn’t because I am only skating for two months… but then the skates I currently own are impalas. And every time I put them on and try spinning and tricks on them I just hate the feeling of the stiff boot and it’s more like I am working against the skates than with them. So I finally got myself to look up an online store and though the price of the boots with fundae wheels has me in tears I’ll likely order them soon.

I don’t think you should feel bad about ordering the lollys. They were my first, and only skate I have bought, and I look at it like a life investment. I got some Sure Grip 1300s (Boardwalks with the metal plate) and some Riedell 130s used from eBay. The boots seem to be in mint condition on both. One is just dried out and water-stained. They both look as if they might’ve been worn only once and then stashed in a garage. They have no creases, no stretching, or anything. The wheels on that dry one are a little worn, though, and it has no insoles. The stopper on the one with no stains and both insoles didn’t want to stop. I couldn’t T-stop either. The stopper and wheels look new, though. Or they did til I skated in them. Do wheels and stoppers dry rot with age like car tires do? And where can I get skate insoles? Amazon keeps pulling up regular shoe insoles. The ones I bought were far too thick and smushed my foot.

I just bought the suregrip indoor skates and they were way too big that it felt uncomfortable so I exchanged for the next down and they are tight and almost feel too tight. So there’s no in between…does that mean that brand just isn’t for me? Do they break in a little? I have flat feet UK 41 which makes my foot wide, I'm torn between moxi Jacks £350 the moonboot £250 and bonts £450, I need width and comfort so I don't know if it's cost effective to get a slightly cheaper pair first or to just get the bonts which I would end up doing anyway I'm a bit of a tomboy and some of the custom colourways on bonts are 🤤 ❤️ it's so difficult to choose. I would mainly skate outside on smooth pavements/road, I'm not really a social butterfly so no disco roller rinks for me 😂

I'm doing a bunch of research right now too, and from what I've read on reviews moxi boots aren't great for wide feet. Don't know from experience though. If your trying to weigh up options the reddit rollerskating page has a bunch of posts comparing different skates. Hope this helps!

Maybe too late but I highly recommend bonts! They have a sizing guide you can print off which shows the boot footprint so you're not just going off numbers alone and for me (also flat footed) it was true to size. Where usually I have to buy a wide version of a shoe (or else buy one way too long), even their regular boot ended up being wide enough for me. I know a bont doesn't really match the popular iceskatey boot that's in style, but the comfort is definitely waaay superior. Btw if the sizing guide puts the toe box being way too long don't get it. It makes using the toestop ridiculously difficult. When the weight of your foot sits way behind the axle you really have to throw yourself forward, in my new bonts I immediately noticed the difference, now I just tip/lean... where before it felt like intentionally jumping off the edge of a ledge.

Are the moon boots leather or vinyl please?

These are suede, but they also have a vegan version.

@@DasiaDoesIt oh thank you because I prefer leather even though I'm a vegetarian. I don't mind using leather that's been used for people's food consumption. In other words I wouldn't use 4 from an animal that was killed for that reason.

@@starlsdd6278 I feel the same way. A lot of vegan leather is made from polyurethane, which is basically plastic. Real leather will break down and go back into the earth, and since it's a byproduct, we might as well make use of it.
