I am almost five months into the journey. Your locs look pretty good and have grown alot. Some of the comments i have gotten include whether i applied something to my hair to make it curly after a wash and go. Others who are used to seeing traditional locs are like those are not locs. They are too small. And then others are like, u have never undid them. I am usually like, was i supposed to? During the first weeks one even stated she hated my hair. I was like cool. Its not on ur head. People need to stop being bothered by stuff that dont grow out of their scalp

You are adorable. I love your beautiful accent...could listen to you speak all day. People say ignorant things. If you don’t have something good to say, say nothing at all. Old saying, still rings true. Why would someone not like the way you look with your natural hair!?!?! That’s crazy to me. As people of color we have to love ourselves and not feel that we’re only beautiful if we relax our hair, or wear wigs, or wear someone else’s hair that is not our natural texture. We need to free ourselves and embrace our beauty.

I have a time tip for someone who is self installing. Put your hair in box braids or twists first (box being the operative word). Next start doing your hair from the center out. The boxes will be a built in grid guide. Starting from the center means you can pull your hair into a bun to cover your work. When it gets to the point of the braids and locs look kinda crazy together you will be tired and take a day or two off work and just get it finished.

It may be too tight on the scalp and causing the itching. You don't want to get traction alopecia either. I use rose water on the scalp for uncontrollable itch. I love everything about this video. I installed my locs a little under 5 years ago...but everything you described took me down memory lane!!! 😅 Took me 6 weeks to install my microlocs as well. But I could not do wigs at all. I had to bust out the remixed bun 😆. Itch 👏🏾 ing 👏🏾... Chillllee... my scalp itched sooo much for the first week. And I am sure it’s because I didn’t have the proper moisture for my scalp mixed with the newness of the style. I had to make some adjustments over the first few months. And the entire perimeter of my locs would unravel due to my hair texture, so I had to re-establish those locs every month for the first 10 months. I have only seen 3 minutes of the video thus far... but Hunty... everything you are saying is 💯 %!!!

Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been doing twists with my hair, but I need a look that is more polished for the workplace. I hope to get microlocs or a similar style to navigate things better. If this doesn’t work, I’ll just cut it.

Hi Tamarah! I hope you'll love your microlocs when you get them so you won't have to cut your hair! As someone who used to cut their hair pretty often, I totally understand

I have micro-twists that I do myself. The only time it itches is when my scalp it dry, so I would suggest more scalp moisture. -Your locs are inspiring! I used to have larger locs and yours are SO GORGEOUS that I am really thinking about having locs again. (Also, these people are crazy..... your natural hair is seriously stunning!!!)

I'm late. Just seeing this video. I have microlocs but I want to start retwisting because my reties are a very painful process. All that pulling. Whew!😢

Your short hair looked beautiful on you too!! Makes me believe I can cut my long hair and look just as cute😅 But I think it's your features that allow you to rock multiple cute styles and slay! Idk if I can lol but I'm curious.

I don’t know if anyone else has already said this but it’s likely that the itching you experience is a sensitivity to the products you use on your hair. I have allergies to a number of different ingredients in shampoos, conditioners, lotions and even toothpaste. Fragrance (fragrance mix, parfum - and the many other terms used to mask the same thing ) is the most common aggravator and in almost ALL hair products. Some people think they’re not allergic because they don’t get severe reactions but you could have a sensitivity. I try to only use single ingredient products but when I slip up the itching is unbearable (I sometimes take an antihistamine if I don’t have the time to wash the product out right away). This was good to watch because I play around too much with hair products and my allergies (because I’m limited on options) and I am considering locs as a way to have my hair styled everyday so I could focus on doing my kids hair - I cut my husbands hair and do both my kids hair (and it’s A LOT of hair) - I have no desire to style mine.

I ended up realising that it was retightening my hair too tight that caused the itching. I hope you found a haircare routine for your family that's more manageable! ❤️

It is a part of the growth of your hair that causes itching.

The itching is a sign there is too much tension on your scalp.
