"Currently, there are more than 5 million cubic miles of ice on Earth, which is 4 times the amount of liquid water on Earth." Not sure where you got these numbers from, but I presume you mean "Liquid Fresh Water" and not just "Liquid Water". 98% of all water on Earth is saltwater, while the remaining 2% is fresh water. Of the remaining 2%, 75% of it is contained in Glaciers and ice sheets. Remember to be more accurate.

I feel so sorry for the people in those cities, but especially Miami, because it’s substrata consists of coral rock which is extremely porous, allowing water to flow freely through it, which is why they are having such a problem already, especially in the city of Miami Beach, where they are already suffering the effects of sea rise, having to install an entirely new drainage system, to prevent the backflow of sea water flooding the streets. They’ve also had to increase the height of the streets by 3 feet, yet the water still continues to pour in. It’s only a matter of time before Miami itself is completely underwater, and nothing they can do will stop it, not even a seawall, because as I said the ground beneath Miami is like a giant sponge, Which will allow the ocean water to flow freely up through the ground and into the city, yet they still continue to build ever taller buildings knowing the city is going to be destroyed, I just don’t understand it.

I used to live in Tuscaloosa, AL in southeastern United States. What shocked me about sea level rise was when you consider that the town, in this absolute worst-case scenario of 66 m rise, would be turned into beachside property. Tuscaloosa lies about 315 m from Mobile, AL and the Gulf of Mexico.

Something not quite right in the intro where it says ""5 million cubic miles of ice is 4 times the total volume of of liquid water on earth"". USGS gives total water volume in, on and above our earth to be around 332 million cubic miles.

Edit; This sound pretty depressing to be honest😅 But if we don't stop thinking someone else than ourselves to start take care of this, this statement will come to be true one day😧 This makes me very upset thinking about it.

Lost me at 0:05 when you said there is 4 times more water in the form of ice than the form of liquid. Obviously wrong, looked it up and of all water on earth, 2.4% is ice. Not 80%. Not a great start to what is supposed to be an informative video.

Start of video: "Currently, there are more than 5 million cubic miles of ice on Earth, which is four times the amount of liquid water on Earth." Quick Google search: - volume of ice on Earth = 6 million cubic miles - volume of water on Earth = 332.6 million cubic miles Me: The setup seems shaky, but I'm sure I'm about to see some well-researched science next.

@eithnemelee2997
Жыл бұрын
Hi Dipu, looking online I can see that Sylhet sits at 35 metres above sea level. Overall this means that your area of Bangladesh is at lower risk from sea level rise than most of the rest of the country. Bangladesh in general is a low-lying country so faces a lot of problems from sea level rise, but your distance from the sea and the elevation means that you are less likely to experience serious problems from this in the near future. I wish you and your community all the best!

I cannont beleave, that the ocean level rises at 66 meters when all ice melts. As I remember I found values from 1 meter to 100 meter oceanrise in the case of icemelt. From the feeling I would expect it is less than 10 meters. New builded supercities like Dubai are build near the sea with no security for sealevel risings. Why they do so ? Why not to ensure, that new builded motropoles will have at least 20 meter safety hight ? In Germany the whole north part would disappear unter the sea, if it rises more than 10 meters. It is a controvers discussion if CO2 or sun activity controls the temparature on earth. There are a lot of arguments for both points of view. I live in middle Germany on 210 meter hight. It will not be flooded but may be covered from a new icetime scenario. So better to burn all coal that no icetime will come and make me wet feets ;-)
