0:18 “now an inmate might actually get cash, and stuff it in their _coota-pocket-sack-pack_ down there, you know… their suitcase, their purse…” not even a minute in, and i’m already wheezing. 😂🤣😂😂😅

I think you would be so good at speaking in high schools, especially those in maybe more affluent neighborhoods, or with generally stable backgrounds. The fact that you grew up in a household with 2 doctors as parents, and still ended up down this fork in the road is a great lesson for all of us.

Thank you for your vote of confidence! I completely agree with you because a lot of people think that it’s only someone who comes from the wrong side of the tracks or who has a broken home and upbringing but it’s definitely a cautionary tale that I lived because it goes to show that It’s not just money, education, or status that matter, when not only growing up yourself, but also raising a child… Crime and addiction do not discriminate, and I grew up with the mentality and around a lot of peers who had the mentality that we would never fall into these scenarios or for some reason even if we did, somehow our families let us out of it and it’s a really screwed up way to think it’s absolutely not true. I deserve to go to prison and, thankfully I did because it saved me, but I know none of us ever thought that this would be our life and it’s definitely something that privileged children should hear!!

I don’t know anything about the world of corrections, but I’ve spent the last 16 years as a police officer and can’t imagine taking money from anyone. If you feel compelled to do so, you’re in the wrong line of work. Great video, Jen. Your videos are very interesting.

I have a friend who was a correctional officer for 20 years. He paid cash for a $850,000 custom home, had a paid off river house, nice boat, jet skis, Porsche, Mercedes etc all on 90k a year. Yeah right! He retired at 52! I’ve known this guy since I was a teenager. Something was padding his bottom line.

I worked a male state pen for over 8 years. In our case the female officers were the most likely to get paid in cash or action. The truly professional women who didn’t play that game were the ones the inmates mass flagged with complaints. Two of our officers came to us from a women’s prison. One male and one female. They both told me that the women’s prison was the same exact way. Male officers who didn’t play the corruption game were the ones who got reported until they transferred, quit, or got fired. There were great officers and there were useless, corrupt, cowardly, and wholly unprofessional officers. We always knew who the bad apples were because they were the ones who got promoted the fastest.

Jen, you're becoming my favorite influencer. Thank you for making these God's honest things that are going on in prisons. You make your stories so funny when u try to get the point across with hand gestures and noises but without actually saying the censored words....lol
@jenjengomez

🤣🤣✊🏼✊🏼 not only in my so incredibly happy that you actually understand everything that I insinuate and my gestures lol… But I’m also just really happy that I can bring a little bit of comic relief to pretty sad, disgusting, daunting, and even horrific scenarios. Whether I’m the reason that the story is heinous due to things I’ve done in my past or whether I’m talking about a situation in general that has nothing to do with me, but rather within the prison, I still always like to tell my stories with a slight hint of laughter and animation so that not only are they not boring, but also not so heavy. So honestly, thank you so much for your comment because it’s comments like yours that let me know I am on the right path. I appreciate your support and encouragement from the bottom of my heart! Much love and respect to you always. 🙏🏼❤️

Good for you for ringing the bell and for being the voice of others who are behind the abuse that you speak of… Prison is not a torture cell for further torture. It’s prison, their punishment. WE are NOT God we do not judge and WE do not personally deliver punishment in response to our emotions-That is why there is a legal and Justice system. I pray our Legal and justice systems get cleaned up and back to where it was that God intended it to be when he created it.
