@@leticiaferreiravazStrangely enough it did exist in Holborn Central London 1739. A sea captain named Thomas Coram was appalled at the sight of babies abandoned on the streets. So he and his wealthy friends founded the Foundling hospital. Mothers brought their babies to the Foundling Hospital to be cared for, with many hopeful that their circumstances would change so that they could one day reclaim their child. Every child admitted to the Foundling Hospital was baptised and given a new name. Mothers also left a token that could be used to identify their child if they returned to reclaim them. The Foundling Hospital kept meticulous records of every child who passed through the institution. The Hospital arranged for foster families to care for the children until the age of five. They were then brought to live and be educated in the Foundling Hospital until around the age of 15, when they were sent out as apprentices, primarily in domestic or military service.

A rich kid in Ohio gave birth to a child and it's not clear if thr baby was born alive because she burned it body and buried it in her yard. Money and aid can only go so far. Sometimes scared people need a safe place to leave the child because they aren't able to raise a child. With roe v. Wade being overturned safe havens and baby boxes uses will likely go up. But it is better then a baby being dumped somewhere to die.
@para4050
3 ай бұрын
@@HankAndHolly We need to have both. You're right, having help and support makes mothers less likely to abandon their babies. But even if there was all the help and support in the world, it just takes one bad mental health day for someone to abandon their baby. And you're right, it's not a decision you can take back. I wish these scared mothers would go through adoption instead of abandoning their babies. But if someone makes that split second decision to abandon the baby, I would want them to have access to a baby box where the baby will be quickly saved. Otherwise, the only other option is to leave that baby out in the cold for someone to find (and they may be too late).

@@HayleyGardening22I don’t understand how you don’t understand this but you are wrong. A lot of babies die from being abandoned in an unsafe place
@HayleyGardening22
2 ай бұрын
@@wyomingfrenchfry1733 If the mother wanted them to live, they would leave them somewhere where they’d be found like in a hotel lobby, outside a hospital, outside someone’s door at 9am when they leave for work etc. The ones abandoned in secluded areas, at night etc have either died already or the mother just wants rid of the baby. A baby box will not save lives, it’s the most ridiculous idea. For the UK for example, you would have to have thousands of them all over the country so any potential mother would have access to one. The statistics show only around 40 babies are abandoned each year, most of those are abandoned in a safe place. None of the abonded babies have been recorded as dead since 2014 (10 years ago). So this girl is saying thousands and thousands of baby boxes should be left all over the country, costing millions of pounds, on the off chance that 1 baby might die every decade. That baby was probably left not to be found on purpose so even if there was a baby box, the Mother wouldn’t have put the baby in there. The whole thought of this is caring and admirable but it just doesn’t make logistical sense at all.

@PeaceOfMake

@skate6223 Not sure about that. There were similar things all around the world. For example in Croatia, nuns would have a box where mums could leave a baby and a bell would notify them when the box was loaded. It was common for mums to also leave a piece of their dress there, in case their circumstances changed and they could take the child back once more. Nuns would keep the piece of cloth with the baby's information papers, so even though the process was anonymous, moms had a way back to their babies.

We could do this to help mothers and you fill information out and then place baby inside - the weight and door closing a second time raises alarm to authorities to open on inside of building to take the baby for support - you don't have to have any contact or leave your name or be seen But we also need a 30 day crisis team that can rehabilitate if mothers want to reclaim their baby with supervised visits
