Thank you for your video. I enjoyed your approach in explaining the BOC. Something we will be doing during our first year of homeschool. Thank younfor sharing your son's personal BOC. It is a beautiful keepsake as well.

Do you recall where Leah Boden talked about BOC? I thought I watched a video but I can not find it anymore! Great video! Thank you!

She had it saved in a story highlight, but sadly she removed it. I was sad about that because I had the link saved and sent folks there all the time! She’s an excellent teacher. I’ve learned so much from her.

@@kindletogetherness That's right! That's where I saw it! That's too bad!

I'm reading TLB right now. We started BOC in earnest last year (with cheap walmart sketchbooks but laid out like Leah says), but we are struggling with knowing what to include and its requiring a lot more direction than I would like. They just struggle to know what they want to include. But I think at our end of year gathering one of our friends brought one and her son had entered all weapons and tools for the century they studied and that was it. I think that spring boarded them a bit to realize it could be more than people and events. This year I'm determined to keep one along side them and hopefully that will also help inspire. Love your walk through friend!

How fun that he embraced it and made it his own! I’ve previewed some BOC from students at the PNEU schools and they always have some artifact drawings, etc.

How old are your kiddos, Jada? Did you decide on a certain curriculum?

This was really helpful thanks! We’re using the timeline resources from Peaceful Press this year but I’ll be making a family book of centuries too (free version printed from Simply Charlotte Mason) for us all to note things in as my kids are all younger but will hopefully start their own BOC as they get a bit older. Thanks again for showing your sons books, they’re so inspiring! :)

The Peaceful Press timeline cards were our very first timeline! So sweet and useful. It will be a super year!

This was so helpful! My son is older (almost 13) and I haven’t started one yet…but I’m inspired to do so this year!!

It can be a wonderful tool for making sense of the people and events that mark you. I love the individual ownership it gives the student in that it’s not simply memorizing dates and names, but it’s choosing which ones stood out to you.

@@kindletogetherness yes! We have done timelines through the years and wanted to incorporate this, but this definitely gives them the ownership as born persons…I’m gonna look for a notebook today! Thanks for your simple explanation.

Thank you for addressing the idea of a second page for AD time. I was picturing my children drawing large pictures that fill the page. How do you convey the idea of adding multiple entries?

Hi Crystal! It’s definitely not necessarily the CM recommendation, but I believe it’s what will serve my boys the best. To help them understand it will be a consistent work they add to after many readings and experiences, I’d present it that way. We get ours out each day when we begin history readings. We also add our term composer and artist to it.

So form 2 you start the BOC and the earlier years are a timeline? What do you recommend to help start learning about how to implement that? I am starting my 2nd year homeschooling and trying to learn and implement CM methods as I can!

Hi! Miss Mason did suggest waiting until Form 2 for a book of centuries. In form 1, you can just ask your child during your lessons what stood out to them and add it to a timeline card or a timeline you have purchased to hang on the wall.
