IN THIS CLIP, DJ MANE ONE EXPLAINS WHAT A BREAK BEAT IS.. TECHNO HEADS LISTEN UP!!!!! A BREAK IS PART OF A SONG, NOT THE ACTUAL SONG!!! DO DJ'S LISTEN UP AS WELL.
If you think this is old, DJ Kool Herc who started the whole breakbeat thing started it in 1973!

Hip hop is a type of breakbeat dance music, even if hip hop performers/fans don't wanna admit it.

Dunno what YOU were smoking, but i basically said the very same things - i agree it all depends on the context and also on the place you happen to be coming from. It doesn't matter at the end of the day however, as long as the beats (or breaks) sound good. Amen, brother ! :)

Actually, people, i'm a romanian Nu Skool Breakbeat dj. Breakbeat basically means any type of syncopated dance music - it's an umbrella term for styles ranging from 2-step to drum'n bass. Nu skool breakbeat (the style of the dj's mentioned above) is about 10 years old and it's evolved from big beat (Chemical Brothers, Apollo 440, Fatboy Slim etc.). And finally, the instrumental part of a tune referred to in the video is a "break" - ex. "Amen Break", not amen breakbeat. Hope this helps :)

You guys are putting the cart before the horse. A breakbeat refers to the break in song structure. It breaks the song components. From the chorus to the bridge. Or a break down in a song. It is the beat that denotes the break. Isolating the sample of the break and repeating the breaks leads to the latter developments.

What is breakbeat music though? I was looking up a band on Wiki, and it said one of their genres is breakbeat.... what is that? Does it have any ties to the breakbeat he's speaking of in this video? Edit I just saw this: Breakbeat - a term used to describe a collection of sub-genres of electronic music, usually characterized by the use of a non-straightened 4/4 drum pattern (as opposed to the steady beat of house). Can someone give me an example of this? I have no idea what that means. LOL
@icedragon769

It means that the drum pattern doesn't repeat every measure.

I think breaks are in 4/4 time, it's just that some downbeats or upbeats are not played in the rhythm.
