I lost my one and only "premium" bible in my last move. Its a long story that i don't wish to get into. But I now have and use a pretty affordable KJV from the dollar store believe it or not. It has none of the traits that make it premium but its the word and the word is what counts. I have been slowly been saving up each month to buy something a bit "fancier". Thanks for uploading these wonderful videos.

I'll tell u what a premium Bible is. Paper with the words of scripture on it in North Korea, or anywhere else Christians have a want for scripture. This is the reason I don't have a single Bible over $40. Because rather than pay so much for one, I'd rather send the extra money to someone that can get a Bible to Christians in desperate need of God's word.

I fully understand what you are saying but a premium bible will outlast a 40 dollar bible. Ive gone through multiple bibles in the past 30 years. cheap 20-50 dollar bibles. I purchased a premium schuyler for 200 bucks on sale. I wont ever have to buy another bible and my kids can fight over who gets it when I die. Its made to last for a lifetime. Ive spent far over 200 bucks on all those other cheap bibles so ive "wasted" that money. If the price is just to much to spend for a person they shouldnt do that until its economical of course.

I agree... and just how many expensive “Premium “ Bibles does one person need? I would be happy with one...or maybe two.

I am very new to the “premium bible “ world, for sure! Like a couple months. However to me, the term “premium “ should be reserved for only the very best, high quality, finest materials and workmanship that can be found in a bible. It must include every single aspect of the Bible in question. Paper quality, sewn or glued, edge lined or paste down, the ribbons, and of course the binding! Not just the material of the cover and lining but how well it’s been constructed. I own several CBP bibles now and love every one of them yet I would not consider any of them premium, although they are very close to it. I do not own one of their Water Buffalo bibles as I believe that would just fall into the category of premium and with better paper would be unquestionably premium. That’s my take on it anyway.

The durability is the crucial thing whether it is premium or not. Right?

One oddball I have - certainly not a premium - is an Oxford NRSV Anglicised Compact. Paperback...but it's got a sewn binding with visible signatures...and it's printed by Jongbloed. If one were to put a new cover on that thing and gild the edges, it'll absolutely be a premium.

A nice/premium Bible is one that is read. That being said I do appreciate a "nice" Bible...I have a Cambridge Clarion ESV in goatskin. However, nearer to my heart is my KJV Companion Bible in plain' ol' bonded leather... because it's a much more useful bible.

If you have Bibles that are years old and never used (as you stated several times for several of these Bibles), you should probably give them to someone who needs one... $100 price point or not.

They are sent to me free of charge for me to review. I give away at least 100 bibles each year and send money to a few ministries which buy bibles to be distributed in areas of the world where the bible is not as accessible. I have personally given away, including volunteering in prison ministry, over 600 bibles over the past 5 years, of varying quality, from paperbacks to super premium leather bound beauties. Just think of those things.

I don't understand what art guilding exactly means, opposed to just regular guilding. Can you explain?

Gretchen Taylor, the term "art gilting" was created to describe the artistic creations that the artisans would sketch "under" the gold while the pages were fanned out. Nowadays, we associate the term with a simply color sprayed or applied to the block either prior to adding of the gold/silver edge building or after. What we have today is technically not "art" gilting but we still use the term to describe the color under the edge gilding. You should do a KZitem search of "antique book art gilting/gilding" and see some of the amazing art gilting examples on older books and bibles when art gilting was truly art.

I wouldn’t consider most Allan bibles as premium bibles as the print block itself is mostly China made. Now having said that I’d say their covers are premium covers. A premium covered regular bible. Lol Now Schuyler Bibles are a good example of premium bibles but I did buy the Readers Additional NASB by R.L. Allan and it definitely is fully premium.
