I failed this part of my animation course because the darn thing was mostly online, (covid era, sadly..) rigging is something I still am struggling to understand, and 3d modeling is harder still.. I think I'll get a handle on it though, your video kind of demystifies it a bit for me with familiarity. Thank you
@Finchwing

aw man that's nasty ;o; things are so hard to learn without a teacher there. 2D rigging can be as simple as you need it to be, so don't be afraid to start small! Maybe just start with a small prop or something like a tiny bug. I'd like to do a tutorial eventually just rigging a simple rig
@LeBongFairy
11 ай бұрын
@Finchwing I very much did not start small when I tried! 😂 I decided to fully rig the most annoying, floppy character, who proceeded to turn into a permanent tumbleweed! Thank you so much for the advice, I love your work 💙

I'm a 3d artist (working on a character rig right now actually haha) and 2d rigs have always been a mystery to me. It's super cool to see how they work, and the similarities and differences between the mediums. Drawing swaps seem pretty similar to blendshapes in 3d, where you can edit the model and have the rig morph to that shape with a slider, super helpful for getting specific expressions right!

This is a wonderful tutorial! Is there any alternatives to toon boom for rigging that works similar to this? (Thats free!) I wanna do 2d rigging but cannot purchase toonboom
@Finchwing
11 ай бұрын
That's a big ask unfortunately, if you wanna do advanced stuff you gotta expect to pay a little. Some other, maybe cheaper rigging softwares may include: moho, celaction, after effects, spine (not sure though as I haven't checked the prices in a while). These will all be built differently and have their own rigging techniques/complexities though (After effects rigs are much more simple and less versatile than toon boom rigs) Blender is free and has 3D rigging potential I think?
