A couple of technical issues that should be reviewed. Video time 1:55-2:24 is demonstrating axial and radial vibration scenarios. The first (1:55) shows the misalignment of the driver to the load. This is causing a "wobbling" effect which is primarily radial vibration and not axial. Some axial movement is going to be seen as a result of this misalignment. The second example (2:07) shows a driver with a fan load. The fan has a deformed fan blade causing a "wobble" and it definitely will be seen in the radial vibration proximitors. But the narrator says "the deformed fan blade would pull outwardly on the shaft of the motor, which is NOT a radial but an axial movement in the shaft. Video time 5:13 is demonstrating the gap / gap voltage when the gap increases. The video shows the gap increasing and simultaneously the voltmeter value decreasing, which is not correct. My feedback is for the objective of correctness for your viewers and not to be critical. I know from experience that editing / mis-editing can cause these types of mistakes. I am a fan of Realpars videos. I salute your endeavors / hard work in producing educational videos in the field of Instrumentation & Control Systems. If I have misunderstood the info, as presented, I will stand corrected. Thanks Pappy

i left my last job because they refused to do this, they kept running the motor till something broke. It was infuriating to see and hear. they hid behind being older than me to downplay the problem. next thing you know the company shut down for 14 days because they failed to listen to me. They did this because they are in a heavy subsidized industry (renewables) so, if they loose money they can ask more from the rest of us

Correct me if Im wrong but that Radial and Axial vibration seems to be vice versa at 1:55
@realpars
5 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. Axial and radial vibration are depicted correctly in the video. Axial vibration occurs when a shaft is misaligned, and the vibration occurs parallel to the axis of rotation. The important concept is that vibration of any kind due to imbalances is detrimental to performance.

helpful video thanks Realpars. what kind of sensors do you recommend for monitoring industrial buildings against earthquake ? or the building need seismic ?
@realpars
2 жыл бұрын
A building is designed to withstand an earthquake of a certain magnitude, per local building codes. There are earthquake monitoring stations that will warn and advise on earthquake activity. That said, for tall buildings, some governments have been exploring the use of acceleration sensors that can be fixed to a structure with a single central bolt. One such device is Gecko Pro SMA-HR which is a High-Resolution Strong Motion Accelerograph

@realpars

You need to match the particular sensor to your application, but in general, a DC capacitive MEMS (Microelectromechanical system) sensor will be a good choice for machine vibration detection. A DC piezoresistive MEMS sensor may be best for impact type applications (crash tests, bounce plates, etc.).

2:00 The narrator describes an axial vibration but the animation shows a radial vibration. 4:40, the narrator describes an eddy current sensor as capacitive, when actually it's inductive, and distinctly different from capacitive sensors.
@realpars

Thank you for your comments. Although not a perfect illustration, the vibration shown at 2:00 does have a strong component of axial vibration. And yes, also a component of radial vibration. At 4:40, the term should have been proximity sensor, not conductive.

Can an accelerometer be used to place on a cd player chassis to measure the vibration level? Would this work if i wanted to compare vibration levels of different cd players etc?
@realpars
3 жыл бұрын
I would assume it is possible, but you would need a very small and precise sensor to measure vibration. I assume you want to measure the vibration of the rotating disk. Most CD players have a very small amount of vibration, mainly caused by the motion of the read/write heads. I will admit i have not heard of anyone doing this, so best of luck and let us know when you have it working!

Small question. Wouldnt the bearings on the machine be able to absorb the axial and radial vibrations?.
@realpars

Yes, they would. But prolonged vibration can weaken and damage the bearings. We measure vibration so that we can insure the magnitude of vibration is not so large as to cause bearing, shaft, or other mechanical damage.

What vibration sensor would you suggest if i want to measure vibration in a small dc motor?
@realpars

There are many different options. ifm Efector, Dwyer, Keyence, and others make very reliable vibration sensors for detecting vibration in small motors. Make sure the one you select reports the vibration data to your control system in the format that is compatible with your system: 4-20ma, 24 VDC, etc.

Yes, acoustic sensors can be used for vibration detection. However, only vibrations that generate surface acoustical waves can be detected by some acoustical sensors, so you need to make sure your sensors are suitable for the types of vibration that you need to measure.

What is the difference between velocity and acceleration vibration measurement
@realpars
5 жыл бұрын
Measurement of vibration takes into account three measurements: Displacement, the amplitude (distance) between the peaks of vibration; velocity, the changing rate of displacement (D) to time; acceleration, the changing rate of velocity(V) to time. Modern vibration detectors are typically accelerometers, since the acceleration measurement can be used to calculate velocity and displacement. Vibration can be caused by piping or support vibration (displacement), imbalance, misalignment or coupling issues (velocity), and bearing damage, cavitition, gear misalignment (acceleration). By using an accelerometer and a good set of electronics, abnormal vibration in each of these regimes can be detected.
