What is a Walnut Blast procedure all about? It's a procedure that removes carbon buildup on the intake valves inside your engine by using finely ground walnut shells and high pressure air. With today's high compression engines and the use of direct injection, carbon build up is becoming more frequent than in the past. The use of poor fuel quality, reduced drive time, failure to have the engine properly warm and poor maintenance habits can lead to excess build up of carbon on the engine valves. Once that happens, misfires can occur more frequently and of course that will turn on the Check Engine Light.
The procedure has the technician removing the intake manifold to expose the valves. Next, the equipment is set up so that each cylinder is isolated and the valves exposed. Next, the walnut material combined with high pressure air supply is sprayed over and around the valves in order to clean off the carbon build up. As that is taking place, the vacuum source is removing the walnut material keeping the cylinder clean.
After the service is completed, your engine will typically run like new. You'll now have complete and proper fuel combustion and should experience much better fuel mileage and smoother performance. In most cases this procedure is recommended anywhere from 40,000 miles to every 60,000 miles. You can prevent of delay this procedure by using Tier 1 fuels and letting your engine warm up properly in colder temps and traveling more Ethan just a few blocks on your drives.
