Watch this video to hear directly from an ESO working in Billabong Gold Mines, Western Australia.
What is an ESO?
Medical Emergency Services Officer is typically responsible for both Medical and Fire rescue on large mine sites. The mining industry is prone to both minor and major injuries and as a result, most mine sites will have on-site Medics to assist in medical treatment and basic life support.
While employee structures may change from company to company, Nathan is on the OH&S team and reports directly to the Safety Manager. The Billabong Gold Mine has a large medical centre, two ambulances and other response vehicles.
This is a popular career path for those who want to help people and provide medical care. It is an alternative to becoming a Paramedic as both jobs have similar technical skill sets.
Nathan completed a Cert III in Mines Rescue and then went on to complete the HLT51015 - Diploma of Paramedical Science at Australian Paramedical College. www.apcollege.edu.au
Australian Paramedical College is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO No:32513), providing three qualifications in the Health (HLT) scope:
