Thank you for this video! I have been experiencing my own existential crisis and even just hearing that it’s okay to feel this way is so helpful. Going to come back to this video for those particularly hard days. Keep up the amazing work!

I loved the video as always! You're so articulate and insightful. I recently watched a youtube video called "Why I Quit Being a Therapist -- Six Reasons by Daniel Mackler". I found it very interesting, and wanted to recommend it to you. If you decide to check it out and find it interesting as well, then maybe you could share your thoughts on some of it.

I checked out the video. it's very genuine but at the same time I feel like he's not a good fit as a therapist. He did all the things you're not supposed to do. Like not doing enough self-care, ignoring therapeutic boundaries, and taking on too many difficult cases, etc, because he didn't believe in those best practices. No wonder he was burned out.

I just went through the job application process, and I was surprised at how much of a toll it took on my mental health. It really made me wonder if I even wanted to be in the field I was applying to.

Omg same! Last time I applied for jobs it took me a few weeks to get a job. While now, even though I have 3 years of more experience, it's been almost three months and it's really stressful.

@@96ANNELI gahh sounds super stressful! sometimes it makes us feel like we're at fault.. but reality of it all the job application process is such a multi-faceted thing... like taking into consideration the hiring pool's stats, the specific recruiter looking through our resumes.. so much of it of course is our assets but also i think luck! dont feel discouraged!

@@hi.yeonni I think I was deffo lucky when I got my last job. And perhaps it made me overconfident trying to get a new job, since it was so easy last time and I felt I could do anything. At my last interview they talked about how nervous I first looked when I got in, and I lol though I was hiding it flawlessly xD. I'm attending this get-a-job-course by the Norwegian government and I found it so motivating! It's so great to get a refresher on how to write again and to see what's really out there. 😌

I've been in an existential crisis for 3 years. I did work as a freelancer but it wasn't enough for me. I am a hard worker, I love love to work and I dont know how to not work (literally I would work for 12-14 hours and I was happy about it). So when I didnt all of the sudden have my freelance jobs (they were hard to get) I started to doubt myself, what I do, I had no idea what else to do because this was the only thing I loved and knew I was very good at it. My money resources were so low, some month I had hard time paying rent and bills, not to mention food. It was bad. BUT today I signed up for a course that will help me spread my field of expertise and I am so so happy about it! I finally found my new purpose and figured out what was missing for me!

A combination of existential crisis and post grad depression can be an explosion in the face. Apparently, lots of people suffer from post grad depression and they never talk about it in public. I think every young adult has become an overthinker because of their public image
@hi.yeonni
5 жыл бұрын
ah yup post grad depression is MOST definitely a thing... but even myself I felt that.. pressure you know? because of that societal expectation to "have it all" after graduating. we all become so hard on ourselves! :( hopefully more doors will be opened to more candid conversations on this topic so more people won't feel so alone!

So is that “edgy/angsty” phase people have in their preteen/early teenage years caused by an existential crisis? Where you feel like you don’t know who you are and nobody understands you? And ur basically like sad and angry a lot? (I had one when I was 12 and although it was unpleasant I feel like it served a purpose bc after a lot of self reflection and realization that there were some questions I wouldn’t figure out it ended and I turned 13 and I was much happier and I’d matured through it) I’m 15 now so it’s been a while I’m just curious

hi i apologize for the late response! back from a short hiatus ! hm... i mean i think it's perfectly normal for humans to experience existencial crises at any points in their life, but when going through those years there's definitely puberty involved which involves a lot of hormonal imbalances that can influence those phases as well! but wow that's awesome that you were able to process all that through that unpleasant experience! it shows that you're super mature for your age and really good and knowing yourself :)) that's awesome!

I love how clearly and pleasantly you explain things. It´s nice to see (legit) informative content from a relatable, licenced therapist, especially about such an interesting and yet still ´taboo´ topic. Plus bonuspoints whenever a cat appears in the background of your videos! ^_^ What are your thoughts on nihilism in relation to existential crises? (In case you happen to read this and feel like answering of course).

This video helped me so much because I was feeling shitty all day today. I actually had a pretty good day, but like most people the happy moments last for just seconds and I see myself worrying about whether this will last - even though I feel pretty good in the moment- while during the bad times, the lows go on forever. I was in bed watching youtube video after youtube video-but after watching this one I suddenly feel like I want to do something productive ! haha Thank you so much for your advice :)

Thank you for making this video. I've been unemployed for 5 months and it is really difficult. I've been dealing with ptsd from severe abuse in childhood and all these intrusive flashbacks and painful memories have made it incredibly hard for me to get out in the real world more often and pursue a job. I've applied probably hundreds of places. My work experience is not impressive to begin with and there are many long gaps in-between the few jobs I have had. I'm running out of time now, I have to earn enough money to rent my own apartment in the next couple of months. It's stressing me out so severely that I'm beginning to feel extremely suicidal every day. I've never lived on my own, and the pressure to find a good job while also dealing with these memories of child abuse is killing me.

hi michelle i apologize for the late response, i just came back from a short hiatus! it all sounds like you are definitely going through a lot...thank you for feeling comfortable enough to share that with me... you sound like a strong person who has been through so much trauma and difficulty in life... and you are doing all you can to move forward. that is so brave of you, you are strong. would you feel comfortable speaking with a supportive figure in your life regarding what youre experiencing? or maybe reaching out to a mental health professional in your local area? once you become connected to MH aid specifically social workers, they could definitely help you to maybe connect you to some vocational coaches to help you with your financial and employment options!
