Hi my daughter regressed her speech when she was 2yrs old, she was verbal but all was meaningless like all the flags which you have explained. But she was not saying any word on command from me (parent) or never responding to anything. Now she is 5yrs old and she started following all the commands also imitating words on command. Will you please advice what should be the next step to make her understand how to communicate.

I think my child has it. Maybe some mild autism or something he walks and does talk a bit. He repeats words and phrases but he doesn’t know what they mean. My sister in law didn’t speak till she was 4, didn’t like to interact with others but all the sudden spoke and has a neurotypical life I guess. She has friends and has 3 children is married and well. She’s weird though she speaks her mind regarless of how cruel it can be. Lmao

Question: We’re concerned about the regression of skills symptom in our 23 month old son. At around 10 months he would vocalize “mama” and “dada” as well as babble other consonant letters like “B” and “T.” But now he only uses “mama” and sometimes we hear vowel sounds. He understands words like all his toys and foods and other items we’ve taught him and will bring them to us with accuracy when we ask for them. He also follows instructions. Like “let’s change your diaper,” or “let’s do bath time with dada” or “go give this to dada.” However when he is expressing desire for something, he just reaches for it and says “mamamama.” Should we be concerned about regressive autism?

My first child had a regression in speech around 12 months and he also repeated things a lot and I was FREAKED out even though there weren't any other red flags. It was at a time when autism was getting a lot of attention and I was reading a lot. It also seemed hopeless then. Now, 18 years later, an autism diagnosis is not the end of the world. I just wanted to write this for any first time moms who may notice a regression in speech or some repetitive behaviors. Don't freak out! It very well might be nothing at all, and now I know so many kids with autism. It's not the end of the world. My first child was a bit obsessive, but oh so cute. He experienced that slight regression, and then he just got obsessed with new words when he learned them and would use them over and over and over again. It actually got to be pretty funny. He's in college now and he still has his obsessions. :)

Thank you for sharing! I've been dealing with allot of signs that my daughter is showing. We currently work with a speech therapist to help her. There is such a wide spectrum now when it comes to autism. I cried for a week straight when I finally admitted to myself that my daughter MAY have something wrong with her. When I talked with my mom, she said "Steph, don't think that there is something wrong with mady (my daughter). Just think of it that she just learns differently." This has helped me so much with coming to terms that my daughter may have autism. It isn't the end of the world. Specialists are so much more advanced now and there has been so much more studies on it that there are ways to IMPROVE it.

I have a kid that I just feel hopeless with. I have OT coursework but don’t have a final degree I’m now a preschool teacher and I have a kid that has silent tantrums or quieter outbursts at random (usually when you attempt to help them do something) They don’t sit up by themselves very well I can’t get them to do tummy time for very long at all for core strengthening They are non verbal No pretend play No interaction with other kids Doesn’t help me dress him - I have to physically dress I have to carry him inside from outside because he doesn’t respond to his name only plays with push toys Turned 2 this week What should I do… intervention is hard because he just gets frustrated and falls backward.

My grandson is almost 16 months. He’s not very verbal. He doesn’t say mommy, but says daddy. If I tell him that one of them is coming, he runs to the door. He rarely responds to his name. He understands and plays hide and seek well. He claps with excitement and moves our hands to clap with him. If I say up, he holds his arms up for me to pick him up. He understands come here. He plays ball with me, rolling it back and forth. He also tries to bounce it with me. Sometimes he runs back and forth, but will stop to interact with one of us. I’m concerned about possible autism. His mother said that his pediatrician says that he’s fine and that he’s delayed due to being home during the pandemic. He’s with me during the week and I don’t share his belief. My son believes that something is different because he rarely responds to his name.
@zoua93

The pandemic has nothing to do with it. It seems He is getting plenty of interaction between his parents and you, and plenty of play time and simulation. I wouldn’t completely ignore the possibility that he might be on the spectrum. Some kids do take longer to talk but it’s always a good idea to keep an open mind.

@@UmiHabiba my son is almost 3 now. He was evaluated, but they didn’t feel like he had Autism. He is delayed in speech, and has been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder. My biggest suggestions are pushing your pediatrician for an Autism evaluation. The earlier the better in my opinion. Only because certain therapies can really make a huge difference. You should also look up the number to First Steps in your area. Once you call they have a certain amount of time to come evaluate him. First steps has been a huge help. My last, and most important piece of advice is to breath. Either way your little one will be okay. I’m amazed everyday by my son, and what he’s able to accomplish despite his delays. 💕

Thank you for the 3 parts. My 3 year old is having multiple communication problems: too much echoing, mostly uses 2-3 word phrases, finally started answering "yes" after turning 3. Ask what he did at daycare or how old he is, no response. Lots of his speech is tough to understand too. Yet he has zero of the red flags from social skills or behavior sections. He's in speech therapy, which is expensive when not covered by insurance. I'm not sure what to do except read more books and practice sounds he has trouble with, so snake isn't "nake". He has honestly spent way too much time in front of the TV (a few hours a day since less than a year old), so I know cutting that out has to happen. I'm not sure what else.

wanted to watch this video, i am concerned although my son wasnt around other kids bcuz of covid (hell b 2 jan 9 2022) he isnt talking... on his 18th month milestone check up his dr said he was concerned yet i didnt see anything, he does what typical 1-2 yr olds do except talk or attempt....he doesnt look when i point, he doesnt point, he just got out of the throwing things on the floor just to do it, MY MAIN THING IM NOTICING is when hes upset, sad, or know he isnt supposed to be doing something or have something he says bye bye and do the hand gestures repeatedly, he also (out of no where the older he bcame) started to cling to one of his plush baby blankets, BUT with the blankey, he has to hold it a certain way ( he has a corner of the blanke, one in each hand) he sleeps with it, it drags and it drives me crazy, i try to disinfect it as much as possible when he does lay it down and when i try to take it he freaks out and/or he looks for it. he takes it out the house and if he doesnt, its a bad car ride. if we leave it home he eventually will settle for the blanket in the car but once we're home he flies to that blankey, he knows his abc's he dances the rhythm, nd when i count on my fingers he tries but his hands move a certain way nd he stops nd puts my fingers up while i count to 5 and he closes my hand to reset lol so cute just things i may have over looked that im noticing now, im not sure if anyone will read this but i thought it was just a development delay nd he just started occupational therapy too, he is texture funny nd doesnt like to eat or touch wet food, and he doesnt like to b fed by anyone or he doesnt like the spoon or fork, all he eats is fries or something try stick like he can hold in his hand, he even find small things and harbor it in the cuff of his index n thumb ALL WHILE HOLDING THE CORNER OF THE BLANKET 🤦🏾♀️ he would even eat that way... holding his blankets corners but picking up his food with his index and thumb. i noticed a few things that could b ?able but im not sure atp help lbvvvs

My son he is 30 months old. He used to say mom when we say mom at 18 months , we have video evidences. Later he watched KZitem alot, he tells 1-20 and 10-1 in reverse manner, tells a-z by observing KZitem videos. He sings movie songs rhymes , but lot of red flags what you have mentioned in the video. He is not responding to name , never says mom or dad but he comes to us and sign what he needs. Whenever he is hungry gets chips.packet to us and looks at us to open it. If he is thirsty takes us to kitchen and gives glass. Or gets glass to us. When he goes potty in diaper he comes to us and puts hand in diaper as a sign of discomfort. Only releif is he opens book and tells bus car if he sees pictures. And if we go out he reads all abc's on the hordings and reads out. But we are freaked that he is bad at social communication and no pointing of things. Is he a speech delay kid or autistic kid. He called me dad twice in his entire life that too when I came late to home and he was at the door when he was 26 months old. Please help me to understand his condition.

Hello, with my respect, you mentioned skills only, but not all children are similars. So, My opinion is you have to classify the childrens according to every stage of their ages. and what are reasons that makes them defferent. and how to avoid this.

My child was evaluated by our pediatrician she said he doesn’t seem autistic because he has eye contact. But he twists his rist over and over and looks at it all the time says only 10 words. We are bilingual has a lot of baby talk. I stopped letting in watch tv and looks at me even more and smiles at me too. He started repeating more words but I don’t think he knows what they mean. He doesn’t point with index finger but with his hand.

Perhaps seek a second opinion?
@COMPERS.

I will try to get a second opinion. She said nowadays a lot child has these types of behaviors and now are misdiagnosing children with autism when all they really have are sensory issues along with delayed speech and other delayed development doesn’t equal autism. I will see though I will still have him intervened with a speech therapist. I have noticed that some of these behaviors are triggered due to boredom, depressed children, neglected, etc but as soon as you start paying enough attention to your child, you play in their world with them sing to them take the tv away and all screens and they certainly stop behaving a certain way. I will have my child evaluated once more just because I want him to reach his full potential even if he is misdiagnosed or not I think I will be good for him to get help for whatever he is struggling with.

Thank you for your very informative videos. My 13 months old son doesn’t really point yet, but be uses his index finger to point to pics in the books and also when nursing him he points my mouth... He doesn’t wave or say hi/bye, however he is aware and understands when someone is leaving, arriving... He is a very beautiful, loving, playful boy, but I can’t stop worrying about these things he isn’t doing yet, he says mama, daddy, tries to say our cat’s name and I can see he trying to talk more as he makes lots of sounds... Should I be so worried? I feel like a crazy mum pointing everything, saying hello/bye to even trees, he happily does hi 5s though, when is the time to actually see a specialist? Thanks in advance

So if a child doesn’t point to objects, sometimes doesn’t follow our pointer and doesn’t express her needs by 18 months is it considered autism?😞 she doesn’t have red flags in behavior and social skills

Hi! I’m 13 and looking back at my childhood, I’m wondering if any of what I did is an indicator of autism. First, I had delayed speech, I didn’t start talking until I was little older than two, my mom even took me to a speech therapist. When I did start speaking I had my own language. My most used word was “Ninnytuck” but my entire family had told me I had a big vocabulary. And finally in the last three years, I’ve noticed I’ll randomly repeat a word multiple times, so let’s I say “Can I get some water?” I’ll pause and then say “water, water”. Anyways just wondering what all that means

rachalle liedy Hi! Children usually are pointing with an index finger by 12 mos. I’d encourage you to seek an evaluation. To help him learn to point, you have to show him your point and help him use his hands to point. That means helping him put out his index finger. Thanks for reaching out. I’ll try to make a video on this.

Hi! Make sure to watch all 3 parts of the videos. Not pointing around 12 months is a concern but a child needs to have more than just that red flag to have autism. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor and get an evaluation scheduled.

Ridzi Ali - Go and see your GP to share your concerns and get a referral to see a paediatrician. The paediatrician can direct you from there. Generally the child will need to go to an assessment centre where they can diagnose her appropriately if this is the case. Don’t leave it!!!! Acting as soon as possibly will get her and yourself the help and guidance you require. Best of luck.
