My personal opinion on the Jurassic Park film series canon, it would be ideal if there was a more comprehensive, more concrete agreement on what events in supplemental materials such as books, viral websites, video games and comics are canon. A cartoon or comic book series would be ideal (now we have a Claire spinoff book) to build upon these events in service of the films. Then, further down the line, imagine if DK books provided a complete Jurassic encyclopaedia like they do for the Star Wars movies.

Daniel Rednor, anyone could survive, just knowing the behavior and activities of the organisms your facing and of corse being careful, it’s not to difficult, the difficulty Isn’t in surviving, it’s in not getting caught, if you stay in the trees most things can’t get you, pteranodons don’t like flying below the canopy and the only thing dangerous to you are the sauropods and possibly the spinosaurus because the rex can’t see you if you don’t move and rexy will scare off the raptors when around not to mention the raptors aren’t good at climbing though they can climb, just stay in rex territory till the rex changes it’s territory close enough to a dock or something then get off the island and boom, yeah, you can indeed survive. Plus Maldoon is very capable, as for how he survived the encounter, one lucky shot on that raptor and a quick rush into the trees and Maldoon would be out of those raptors range in no time, adrenaline is one thing that makes humans overpowered, as far as I know. I believe that humans are probably one of if not the only creatures that has an excessive overly insane response because of adrenaline and that would give Maldoon an extra chance and that being that, yeah, learn the behaviors, be fit for survival, and be skilled and talented with hunting, Maldoon was all of the above. The more simple way of putting it is, anyone can survive, but only a badass can live. Welcome to Jurassic Park.

As for the canon question, you nailed it on the head when you said that the books and the films are different continuities. The movies will have a special place in my heart - they were a part of the household lol. I'm listening to the audiobook of the first novel right now. @Klayton Fioriti, IMO there is movie canon, book canon, and game canon (Game canon being each game is canonical to itself with Jurassic World Evolution having some slight canonicity to the movies up to Jurassic World)
@lenyo6371
5 жыл бұрын
Maybe someone more familiar with the game can fact check this, but this is what I think is stuff from the Jurassic Park: The Game that is/can potentially be considered canon in the movie universe. - The general plot of the game happened, though the devil is in the details. - Nima and Miles. Makes sense that Dodgson/Biosyn would send a Plan B. - Jessica Harding is canon too, though it takes quite some suspension of disbelief. - So are Laura Sorkins and David Banks by necessity, though I think it makes more sense to change Sorkins' role to a less important one and have her work in the Visitor Center instead of a Field Lab (I admit I only try to force Sorkins in to make the Troodons fit, don't @ me). - Nima really did hold the Hardings up and the really did escape from the East Dock, though it looks different from the one seen in the game. - The Bone Shaker, more unseen/unfinished attractions make sense and are even mentioned by Hammond. - The Barbasol can was retrieved and destroyed by Rexy. It fits the tone of the series well, just like the destruction of the Indominus bone in Fallen Kingdom by Rexy. - Only Yoder, D-Caf and Oscar are canon. - The Herrerasaurus are canon. Their existence is acknowledged in the DPG list and they also got a toy. - So is the second Velociraptor pack meant to replace the ones killed by the Big One. - The tunnel network and the geothermal power plant existed (see Fallen Kingdom). - Mount Sibo. - I like to think the Troodons existed, but died out before 1994. However, they're not even mentioned on internal list (whereas the Herrerasaurus, another game creation, was mentioned in them) and this is more wishful thinking than anything. You can always argue that they were so fucked up that InGen didn't even want to acknowledge their existence and thought Sorkins had eradicated them already anyway. And this stuff is not canon: - While Compsognathus are canon on Nublar now, the clean up team was surprised by their existence on the island in 1994 because they never introduced them from Sorna. So Harding's comments about them in the game make no sense. - Sorkins' journal suggests that the Dilophosaurs are fully grown, but the hologram version seen in JW (which shows adult animals for every other species) is significantly larger. - Harding's appearance. He was in the movie and looked completely different. Movies > Game. - Minor detail, but the helicopter briefly seen in the game flies in the wrong direction and would probably not have passed over the Visitors Center anyway. - The other InGen mercenary team; Troodon are of doubtful canonicity as is and their deaths would have surely been recorded somewhere. - The Field Lab is probably not canon, too impractical. - The Marine Facility does not exist, nor does the Tylosaurus. It's made clear in secondary JW material that the Mosasaurus was the first cloned marine reptile in the early 2000s. - The second Rexy attack in the Visitors Center never happened, the entrance is still intact in JW and the bone arrangement etc in the movie seem to suggest that Rexy left and never came back. - Isla Nublar's bombardement obviously didn't happen. - Sorkins was not killed by a (nonexistent) Tylosaurus, but probably still died. I probably missed a lot, but I really like the game despite all its flaws and tried to make as much as possible fit.

The movie canon was rendered confusing with the latest film when the volcano on the original island exploded but no one said anything about rescuing the dinosaurs and moving them to site B, the dinosaur island featured in the second and third Jurassic Park movies. Some have even suggested that site B isn't canon! What? It appears not only in Jurassic Park 2 and 3 but also in Crichton's second Jurassic Park novel. You can't get more canon than that but it was completely ignored on the 5th Jurassic Park film.

You know, there are things wrong with the InGen list, in the original Jurassic Park, there are 4 Raptors shown on screen along with the rest of the clutch that we see one hatch from along with the nests that Grant and the Kids stumbled onto in the jungle. Evolution of Claire is marketed as canon, JP:TG is one that was created to supposedly be in it and has yet to be directly contradicted there. There's also the potential links between Congo and the movie universe with a planned scene that was mentioned in interviews that never was completed due to incompatible scheduling (Dogson was supposed to be mentioned, and I believe BioSyn still has onscreen references). For the novels, you have Dragon Teeth being marketed as a prequel to Jurassic Park...

There is one major flaw in the DPG site: The 1994 clean-up. If InGen was all the time aware, that the dinosaurs were alive and well, then why Ludlow didn't wanted to go to Nublar in the first place? It's much smaller, and less of a threat than Sorna. Also, it had an good variety of species for the start. I remember the 1994 clean-up as a "fan theory" from the Jurassic Park Legacy staff to justify the "extinction" of Nublar and to support the deleted scene. The authors of the DPG site wanted to implement some of these ideas into canon. And the Spinosaurs being cloned in 1999 is just outlandish. InGen went in 1999 and did shady experiments. Did they used the old, deterriorated buildings, we saw in JP///? Why they didn't experiment on Nublar? It was completley ignored. Why the hell they wanted to create these few dinosaurs? What was the point? Testing hybridisation? They are already hybridised with modern day animals (i.e. Dilophos and their frill). It seems to me, that they want to explain EVERYTHING , that wasn't in the movie. The spinosaurus for example: Why isn't he just a dinosaur that they've made and didn't report. Why destroying the mystery of this animal? Why we didn't saw the animals in other films? I dunno and didn't care. They were somewhere else.
@1Morey
5 жыл бұрын
He just said that the new dinosaurs were cloned to be used for Jurassic World. The reason why they didn't go to Nublar, is that Sorna was the "factory floor". Sorna had more variety in dinosaur species than Nublar. And Dilophosaurus is not a hybrid. For all intents and purposes, in the JP universe the Dilophosaurus had a frill and could spit venom as a part of its natural physiology.
@niki_mafioso39
5 жыл бұрын
@@1Morey To be honest, I don't buy that. Hammond said that he kept InGen for four years away from Site B, but they went to Nublar in 94'. Sorry but that statement is simply incorrect. The fact that they all have frog DNA is proof enough that they are hybrids already. And to give the explanation that these traits are in its natural physiology is kinda lame.
@1Morey
5 жыл бұрын
@@niki_mafioso39 You do realize Hammond has a history of withholding information, and outright lying. He's a businessman, but he is also a showman. Of course InGen is going to go to Nublar to do cleanup, and assess what had happened. That's what any business is going to do when a catastrophic incident is going to occur where millions of dollars have been invested, they're going to open up an investigation. And he wasn't trying to keep InGen away, he was trying to keep "human interference". That means anybody not specifically InGen. The map of Las Cinco Muertes in the RV has a statement saying that there are magnetic anomalies around the island. (This pretty much explains that it was meant to keep people from finding the islands, because when on ship or aircraft, you want your navigation equipment to be working at all times. Obviously these anomalies don't exist, since InGen was shipping dinosaurs from Sorna to Nublar when constructing Jurassic Park.) And the statement is not correct, Richard Kiley states, and I quote, "We now know Dilophosaurus is actually poisonous, spitting its venom at its prey, causing blindness and eventually paralysis, allowing the carnivore to eat at its leisure. This makes Dilophosaurus a beautiful, but deadly addition to Jurassic Park." Its not lame, its meant to signify that when InGen created these dinosaurs, they were bound to make discoveries that would otherwise have been unknowable from fossils. And yeah, TECHNICALLY all the dinosaurs are hybrids, due to frog DNA, but to say that frilled lizard and spitting cobra DNA was added is not true.
@niki_mafioso39
5 жыл бұрын
@@1Morey And the deleted scene in TLW would had made absoluteley sense, pre JW. InGen went down there and wiped everything out. Case closed. He wanted InGen out of it. He said it even to Ian that they've were on Chapter 11 since the disaster of the park and that they've been planing to exploit Site B for years and that he successfully stopped them until they've kicked him out. And there is my question: Why not trying to exploit both the islands? And so what? That what he said was basically InGen's current scientiffic status. It doesn't mean that it was correct. Remember what Wu said: "We have always filled gaps in the genome with the DNA of other animals. And, if their genetic code was pure, many of them would look quite different." I wouldn't condemn it as "not true". You don't have any evidence for it's non-existance, aswell as I don't have any for the existance of Frilled lizard DNA. It's quite more logical, than the simple "That's how the Dilo in JP looked like". And it doesn't stop with the Dilopho. What's with the featherless Raptors, or the fact that some of them had slit pupils? These things are much better explained with science, than with the "That's how the dinos in JP looked like" excuse.
@eagc7
5 жыл бұрын
@@niki_mafioso39 Lets remember at the time they wrote TLW, the idea was for Nublar to be destroyed, that is why they treat it as if Sorna was the only island left, but it was later retconned as we know, it may not make sense, but as far the official canon of the films is concerned Nublar still had dinosaurs at the time TLW and they were building Jurassic World on Nublar when the third movie took place

The film inconsistencies as far as T-rex vision amongst other things can all be explained by the science in the film, specifically the theater seen when Malcolm explains they basically didn't do any of the work for themselves. Inherently meaning some of their science was pretty shotty also what led to the breeding.. Just aswell I understand names and people screw up some of the context between mediums but who's to say known events are the only events on the island. Meaning Hammond is pretty old, Jaded and clearly uses manipulation to get what he wants and knows how to tell people only what he wants them to hear. Who's to say events on the island didn't happen before and just weren't covered up? Hammond "gains" new view of "environmentalism" simply by his hubris being tested once he puts his own family in a similar experience to what he's been putting his mercs through. If entire teams were lost who would there be to hold him legally accountable? Would give quite the back story to why places on the island are so furnished at earlier phases in the cannon and such a scientific team would need to be in place. In movie cannon alone we haven't really seen the number of dinosaurs that would amount from years of the hatchery process alone unless they're just right out offing them if they're not perfect.. They would need a stable supply at the least to think of opening a park for profit. I only wonder where the farm was because they clearly fed a T'rex a goat instead of other dinosaurs, that alone would need an insane amount of livestock.

This was an awesome video! As a Dragon Ball fan, canon and continuity is a jumbled mess, but like Jurassic Park, you can generally boil it down to two: the original Toriyama manga + Jaco and DB-, the 80s and 90s anime trio which base themselves off the manga (but aren't canon to it due to a LOT of additions and changes), and the "modern" canon of Dragon Ball, Kai and Super. Anything else is generally considered side stuff that's fun but not applicable to anything else (Android 21 isn't canon right now, much as I love her character). Anyway, I see Jurassic Park as the same: the two novels are obviously the basis for the movies, but their stories cannot be applicable to the movies due to how incredibly different the two storylines are.

The current main anime continuity is DB>Kai>Super, because Kai cut out most of DBZ’s filler and Toriyama himself directing worked with Toei on the DBS anime.

by that logic the JP films are secondary canon, and the MCU is like 200th teir c anon since marvel had countless canons before MCu's. the main is the one most people know it for. what's next? GT isn't canon? Or only Disney 's shit versio nof sw is cano n? come on man ,you should know better.

Something interesting is that jp lore was different from the real world at the start, they mixed Velociraptor/Deinonychus and even increased the size,The trex Was able of walking and running faster than how it normally would,the dilophosaurus was meant on that universe to keep that size and the venom spit ability and a bunch of other cool stuff.
@taliesincoleman6569

actually: 1- the raptors are simply Vel.antrhopus 2- it's hinted that the dilohposaurus were the product of geneic tampering but aside from that, procompsognathus trassicus is one example of the alternate reality idea.

Yeah, the Rex were a little too fast... I'd say about 50% too fast when chasing the jeep, and that is compared to its most believed "sprinting" speed of roughly 30km/h. We don't know how fast it really was, although we do know it had feet adapted for fast movement (the central metatarsal bone squished between the external ones) and a mighty powerful Caudofemoralis longus muscle, which in non-avian Archosauromophs tends to aid the pulling back of the femur, giving more power to the stride. From this we can make an educated guess that Tyrannosaurus was actually pretty agile for its size. (I still doubt it could go 50km/h. That sounds more like its smaller cousin Albertosaurus)

It's not that difficult! You got the manga as the core canon, you got the 80s/90s anime trio as the second, and you have the modern DB>Kai>Super as the third canon line. Anything else is non-canon funtimes.
@KBABZ

@Johan Personally I disagree. If you watch GT, you're stepping back into the early 90s canon because GT followed off directly from Z. Kai is the "modern" canon to me because of how Super uses it for its flashbacks to the classical stuff.

I for one would definitely love to see themes and elements from telltale's game to be explored in the franchise's movie cannon. I feel as it would add a whole new depth into that reality, which could make for some really intense scenes. (Imagine if not only the Mosasaur, but the Tylosaur managed to escape the island; and if the Troodons began to breed more, and start to exhibit behaviors like the Compys in the novels)

Since the rights go back to the Crichton estate after JW 3 (the 6th in total) and they can make a new contract if they wish, they could end up making a "multiverse" For example, the Halloween film series. After the same number of films they made a new timeline, only paying attention to the first two. And now they've done it again. After the 6th Jurassic film, we could very well have remakes or direct sequels to the original film, like the Halloween film series.

AMAZING as always! 👍🏻👍🏻 Personally, as far as supplemental materials to support the main film canon go, I consider "Jurassic Park: The Game" to be *more* canon with the films than say, the Topps comics. It definitely tries its best, mainly by tying up the first films' loose end of Nedry's Barbasol can of embryos.

Hey Clayton some people are saying that just because Isla Sorna’s buildings are powered by geothermal energy doesn’t mean that there’s a volcano on the surface of the island and they could just be getting it from lava flows under the island What do you think of this argument? I’ve also never heard jack Ewins confirm that there is a volcano on the surface of the island I hope he confirms this.

True. Plus aspects of it have been used in the viral marketing for the JW movies, aside from Mt. Sibo. * The Bribri tribe was given a section of Nublar to live in, and Jake Johnson mentioned that Lowery lived with the Bribri at some point. * 4 Herrerasauruses were on Nublar in 1993, and all were killed. (We see three in JP:TG, and all were killed) * A JP Veterinarian disclosed to InGen that Nedry had stolen the embryos in an act of corporate espionage. (Gerry Harding knew about this because Nima Cruz told him that the embryos were being sold.)

Taliesin Coleman also them bringing down Nerdy’s Jeep because on the DPG they said the Jeep was found outside the east dock on a hill. Also I think I know what happened to the body’s of the mercenaries in front of the visitor center and the crashed helicopter in the artificial lake the dead mercenaries were most likely taken off the island in the 1994 clean up and since the crash helicoptering the artificial lake was mostly in one piece it was probably salvaged in the 1994 clean up but I am still unsure what happened to the bodies of miles/Oscar/Danny/Yoder and doctor sorkins assistant David banks. Also the remaining 3 raptors in JP the game most likely died off after the events in the game and as for the troodons they are Mia but most likely dead at this point.

I don't know where else to come out and say this but I'm one of the very few people that actually likes Jurassic Park 3 oh, I understand it was nothing but a cash grab and I understand that there was a lot of parts to it that was absolutely terrible but I still love the movie. One of the major arguments that people constantly say is that the spinosaurus did not deserve to win in the T-rex fight or that it was unfair that the T-Rex died. I understand where people are going from this but I also understand what the filmmakers were trying to do create a threat that was much more violent and monstrous than the Tyrannosaurus Rex showing that there are apex predators on the island other than Tyrannosaurus. Realistically the T-Rex would have been able to destroy the spinosaurus, the Tyrannosaurus Rex obviously had a stronger bite was bigger and was overall an actual meateater unlike Spinosaurus which was a fish eater, but I still like the idea of the spinosaurus being stronger than the T-Rex it only shows that INGEN was a corrupt company making things that barely represent their actual fossil record counterparts but also that they were not shy of making terrible Beast Tldr: I like the third movie because it shows that INGEN IS a corrupt company making dinosaurs that barely match their real-life counterparts... also spino cool 😎
