I liked this unit. I especially liked that the instructor asked for confirmation and the visuals.Being from Minnesota, I listen much slower than most folks outside of the US talk, but I was able to follow along, however I would find it useful to have a script of this video as well.I will be referencing it as a reference for new Docker users.

Not sure whether this is a dumb question. Is Micro Service something like a Common function for a process which can be used independently through calls anywhere ????
@edurekaIN

Microservices is an architectural style that structures an application as a collection of small autonomous services. Each microservice serve only one specific business function, such as: user management, user roles, e-commerce cart, search engine, social media logins, etc.

How is resource utilisation more efficient when using multiple Dockers on one VM v/s running multiple VMs on one host machine ?
@edurekaIN
5 жыл бұрын
Hey Sudeep, With VMs, the hardware is being virtualized to run multiple OS instances - which slows everything down and gradually increases the total cost of ownership. To avoid all of that, docker containers leverage one OS, increasing deployment speed and portability while lowering costs. Hope this helps!

Just to be clear, every time he says "dependencies for one particular microservice", he is talking about virtualization, right? The only thing I see any different between docker containers and virtual machines is how resources are allocated. If your application is large enough to need separate servers for microservices, you have probably already outgrown docker!

Why we have to use the docker on top of the virtual machine only.Can you please clarify ?

What it is like running ubuntu container in docker engine which is installed in a system with ubuntu os.
@edurekaIN
7 жыл бұрын
Hey navaneeth, thanks for checking out our tutorial! You can always run an Ubuntu-Docker container on an Ubuntu host machine, if you have such a requirement. It would work exactly the same way it works on any other host OS. Since Docker Containers are exclusive environments created to run a particular application or satisfy a requirement, their behavior does not change from OS to OS. For example, you have a high end ubuntu server in which you plan to run multiple Applications - each of which need its own particular environment. In this case, you can choose to run multiple environments in docker containers, one of which could be an ubuntu environment as well. Hope this answers your question. Cheers!

Very helpful, really appreciate. Few questions I have which I am looking now a days: How is the HA can be achieved running workload on Docker Container or Linux Containers? Is there any encryption (eg RSA) available for Docker file like we do normally for Windows web.config file.? Thanks Roushan
@edurekaIN
7 жыл бұрын
Hey Roushan, thanks for checking out our tutorial! We're glad you liked it. Here's the answer to your first question: HA can be achieved using Docker Datacentre (DDC). You can setup multiple UCP controllers each of which runs on its own OS and Docker Trusted Registry uses cluster architecture that makes use of replicas for high availability. We are still digging around to answer your second question and will get back to you as soon as we can. Hope this helps. Cheers!
@edurekaIN
7 жыл бұрын
Hey Roushan, thanks for checking out our tutorial! Here are the answers to your queries: Docker Universal Control Plane is designed for high availability (HA). You can join multiple manager nodes to the cluster. So if one manager node fails, another can automatically take its place without impact to the cluster. Yes, we can achieve security to the docker file using Cisco Umbrella. Hope this helps. Cheers!

@edurekaIN
7 жыл бұрын
Hey Aman, thanks for checking out our tutorial! Docker containers can be run on any Host OS: Windows/ Mac/ Linux. And all the containers will be active inside the same host. Linux is the most preferred Host OS because Linux servers are the cheapest for organizations to buy. The instructor has a Windows OS, but for the sake of showing it in a Linux host he has used a Virtual Machine running on Windows. Hope this helps. Cheers!
