Nat and Kate are two paws-itively awesome Occupational Therapists here at Kites.
Along with the help of a highly skilled (and highly adorable) labrador, Nat and Kate deliver innovative Occupational Therapy (OT) services to children in Perth WA. The introduction of a Therapy Dog into an OT session aims to re-engage children and motivate them to participate in their therapy program. Therapy goals of the Dog-Assisted Therapy program include social participation, emotional regulation, gross and fine motor skills development, communications skills, pretend play, turn taking and self-care.
Our highly trained dogs are sourced through our sister organisation, Guide Dogs WA. For the first year of their lives, puppies undergo basic socialisation training with the Guide Dogs WA team. From here they are selected to enter the Therapy program based on their temperament and personality. A Therapy Dog needs to be relaxed, laid back, confident - and love kids!
