Dysgraphia is a lesser known, but very important to understand, learning difference. It is difficult to diagnose because it’s not officially listed on IEPs or 504s in Illinois and other states. If you add to that the fact that people with dysgraphia often also have dyslexia, adhd, or are on the spectrum, the lines get blurry for teachers to understand dysgraphia in its purest sense.
Dysgraphia is a neurological learning difference, much like dyslexia. However research and science is still happening to determine the specific causes of dysgraphia. Teachers and parents may notice their student has difficulty writing, but may not know how to help. There are 6 varieties of dysgraphia, each with its own challenges and things to work through. There are also many different teaching strategies and modifications that we can provide, as teachers, to help support our students. Join us as we dive deeper! Have questions about dysgraphia?
