Hi just wanted to know my window installer has replaces a faulty garden door with a smaller one with out our knowledge , we realised that it is 22 mm smaller, and there are gaps on each side which they filled with foam and the edging strips are also fitted at an angle to cover the gaps. We are not happy about this can fensa help ?

Have you tried talking to the installer to rectify these issues first? If they are a Fensa registered installer than you can contact them.

So I don't need the certificate or a registration - I can just install the windows myself and get someone from council to approve it? In which case why would a solicitor need to see a FENSA cert when I'm selling the house?

A Fensa cert is probably the most common which is why solicitors ask for them, but yes you can fit them yourself and ask the council to inspect and sign off, then provide that instead.

The whole FENSA thing is a nonsense, its was basically brought in to stop the lads employed by window companies doing cash jobs at weekends , this certificate does not mean you have good windows , or that they are fitted to a high standard , as long has the windows have the correct openers for safety , toughened glass in the right place and a high efficiency glass , good locking system on openers and doors , nothing else matters , other than not been ripped off , my advice to anyone in the market for double glazing is avoid the big companies , pick a small company that have been in business and well established , recommendations are helpful , ive been fitting windows for 40 years , all my work is thru word of mouth , i dont take a deposit , customers pay me when im finished , and i am not FENSA registered , if it were a benefit to my customers or me i would give it thought , but to me there are none

Hi David, getting customers without marketing means you are doing something right! Do you ever get people asking you for a certificate when they are trying to sell their home?

@@GlazingInsider Hi there , in truth very very few , i find customers are more interested in the price , than a piece of paper , if some customers do , i refer them to building control , but only if they are selling their property , i have never had a problem , i have been asked to houses where a FENSA registered company have fitted some double glazing , left them with all sorts of problems , because they are miles away , fob the customer off , they give up , my names put forward , i get great satisfaction fixing a mess , and customers realising the certificate the company left them , means nothing

Fensa don't give a monkeys. The fenstration nvq is a new thing and to be recognised as a window fitter you need to pay money and send photos of an install. Just the normal Accreditation industry creating a job with people sitting in an office who have never fitted a window in their lives telling people who have been fitting windows for 20 years that they aren't Qualified to do it.
