This video explains what is Galvanic Isolation and why it is required in electrical and electronics system.
The following topics are covered in the video.
1. What is Galvanic Isolation
2. Why Galvanic Isolation is required in Electronic Systems
3. Galvanic Isolation Methods
What is Galvanic Isolation :
It is a technique to to restrict the direct flow of current between the two functional sections of the electrical or electronic system which are operating at different operating voltages. ( or when they have different ground potentials)
Why Galvanic Isolation is required ?
1. To isolate the high voltage and low voltage sections of the circuit ( to prevent the flow of direct current between high voltage and low voltage sections)
2. To prevent the operator and devices from high voltage hazard
3. To prevent the ground loops in the communication networks and electrical systems
4. To minimise the noise and interference
Applications
1. Industrial Instruments ( motor control, robotics, power supplies)
2. Consumer Electronics ( Home Appliances, PC etc)
3. Medical Equipment’s
4. In Data Communication to minimise ground loops and interference ( Ethernet , RS 485, I2C etc)
Galvanic Isolation Methods
1. Optical Isolation
2. Capacitive Isolation
3. Inductive Isolation
This video will be helpful to all the students of science and engineering in understanding what is Galvanic Isolation and Why it is required in electrical and Electronics Systems.
