About 6 years ago, I volunteered with a church to help young refugees from Burma with their homework once a week. I had a dozen 2nd graders that I helped with English and math. One time, a young girl who had such an outgoing and cheerful personality asked me "I'm from Burma. Do you want to visit Burma one day?" And I went "hmmmm, I didn't plan on it, not really." And she said "good, they'd probably take you into the street and kill you because you're white and love Jesus." Suddenly my heart hurt because this sweet 8 year old knew what ethnic cleansing was. Ever since then I've had a special place in my heart for the struggles in Myanmar.

I am from Myanmar and as much as I appreciate you showing the world a glimpse of what’s happening here, your information is slightly wrong. It’s not that the military is fighting the ethnicities that is not Burmese. It was before the coup. After the coup, everyone, every ethnicity is fighting in their own way for freedom. Sagaing Division is arguably the division with the most fights against the military right now and the locals are mostly Burmese. The reason the fighting is mostly in the periphery is bcuz it’s easier to get the weap*ns and to fight. It’s just the big cities like Yangon have an illusion of peace bcuz war still hasn’t reached here. But people are suffering bcuz of inflation, lack of job opportunities and so on. There are many emigrants recently bcuz there isn’t much jobs here. Anyway, thank you for shining lights on this.

@@thastayapongsak4422Man, as I'm from Myanmar myself, the rohingya crisis is one hell of a moral dilemma. On one hand, you got people that have no knowledge of the country berating & dehumanizing every Burmese they see on the internet like they are xenophobic and supports the genocide. And with Aung San Suu Kyi being a very popular political icon, defending the genocide on tv made it a lot worse when the Rohingyas were trending on the internet. It only further fueled these people's image of 'genocidal Burmese'. Back then, even KZitem videos about Myanmar that aren't about politics was flooded with hate speech. It made me avoid comments sections because of that. And on the other hand, Myanmar already has a long history of tension between the Rohingyas with extremists and the military propagating this image of 'illegal Bangali immigrants coming to harm the country', when, contrary to common belief, the Rohingyas do have concrete evidence residing in Northern Arakan and they have their own separate language. But because of these bullshit public image being thrown at us Burmese & Daw Suu, it has actually fueled our own propagated image of the Rohingyas and created actual xenophobic Burmese that post hate speech to the Muslim community. Years later, our view of the Ro's has improved but the majority still has the 'illegal Bangali' mindset. Apologies if I made you read all of this but I needed to rant about it. This is absoluteley not a diss on the woman who made this video. Huge respect to her for talking about this. But it is actually sad to see so many Americans go "thanks for shedding light on the situation." Its frustrating because this has been happening for a while and its a very clear cut crisis. Massive failiure of the news industry and the school system.

Thanks for spreading awareness to the situation in Myanmar. I am from and grew up in Yangon and I came to Singapore a year before the coup. However I still have many friends and family who are suffering from the coup who I am still worried about. As I usually come back during holidays, I understand the situation, especially when it comes to the electricity, it only comes on every 4 hours and it’s usually extremely hot in the afternoon so we have to deal with the heat. I’m extremely grateful that you are sharing the information as not many people know about what’s going on

It makes me happy to see Myanmar/Burma getting covered but give the right information please. My boyfriend and his family are refugees. I go to events with them and they discuss a lot of politics although I don’t understand most my boyfriend translates for me and it’s very sad. Although he never mentioned the ethnical cleansing part. The reason he told me they are going at war is because the president of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi was going to take the power of the military . In Myanmar the military has a lot of power and say to the government more than the president. So the leader of the military had the president locked up and kill the citizens who are against the military. These groups are split up in their own beliefs of what is right or wrong and they kill other groups as well.

this hit very hard. my family is from Myanmar but i will not be able to visit my home country. my mother and father miss their villages dearly and it breaks my heart to hear all the innocent lives taken from starvation or violence. my father had told me that in myanmar, there a lot of deaths from starvation, dehydration or eating lethal things outdoors because they don’t care if they will die, they’d rather die full than starving. i want to see my grandparents back in Myanmar but unfortunately it will be unlikely. im so happy to see people outside of my community speaking about this matter because without people outside of my Burmese community, nobody would know about this. i love my home country and i pray that i will be able to visit my parents home village one day, but as of now i am unable to. i hope that more people will be educated about the crisis and many innocent lives being unfairly taken in myanmar

I see alot of attention given to afghanistan, which is good, but there are a lot other countries which ppl have to clue about. Just because afghanistan is an islamic country, so a lot of western media shows only negatives of that country. But they hardly highlights the attrocities of non muslim countries which are even worse than afghanistan, like palestine and maynmar,

It gets even worse. Prior to the military coup, there was still ethnic cleansing going on with the old government. What ethnicity? The Rohingya - a majority Muslim group. It got very little attention by the international media, and worse, it was disregarded even by the rest of the Burmese citizenry. And now these same people are the ones talking about humanity and pleading for help. It's a horrible situation... but there is an element of karma to it.
@d.n.8919

Actually one of the ethnic groups being targeted in Myanmar are the Rohingya, and they are Muslims. In fact, their Muslim religion is one of the reasons they have been targeted-the military is “Buddhist” and doesn’t consider Muslims to be “real Burmese.” Of course, whatever kind of “Buddhism” the military is following is not real Buddhism considering that Buddhists aren’t allowed to even k!ll insects or eat animals, let alone k!ll people…

I’m from Myanmar and there’s a misinformation here. Ethnic clensing in ~2017 and 2021 coup are separate matters. Rohingya crisis 2017 was a racial insider outsider problem which Myanmar Military took matters into their own hands and committed genocide. 2021 is a literal coup d’état which replaced the democratic government with a military dictatorship. Everyone I mean everyone revolted against the dictatorship now we’ve been fighting the dictatorship ever since. The current situation isn’t a racial ethnical conflict. It’s a civil war and a national crisis. You better point out a pretty good insensitive if you even want to suggest that one major ethnicity in Myanmar want to clense all other 134 ethnic groups. It’s a wild claim to make.

UN needs to do something about Myanmar and take back the refugees from Bangladesh and give them security. Its becoming increasingly problematic for an already poor and overpopulated country like Bangladesh, especially in this economic downtime and political unrestness.
