I’m just going to put this out there: I’m a gay member and I keep my covenants. There was a time when I didn’t. I left the church for 12 years to live that “lifestyle”. She is wrong about living a chaste life as a gay member. I came back 3 years ago and my life has blossomed in ways I never could have imagined. Sure, it’s lonely sometimes, but if that is my biggest burden to carry I will gladly do it. Nothing can compare to having the spirit in your life. I wouldn’t trade a chaste life in the gospel for anything in this world. The price of that “lifestyle” costs far too much.

This is the age where living with authenticity to ourselves is the highest expectation. This is the most deceitful of all false doctrine and gives way to the idea that instead of God creating us, we create our own gods who do not trouble us with anything difficult, adverse, uncomfortable or unpleasant. So sick of this tolerant, everything’s-gotta-feel-good crap!!! I have found after enduring much suffering and being forced to wait on the Lord’s timing for most of my blessings (since I did not receive them in a timely fashion) that despite what we may think (or the likes of people like Hanks may think) we are here on God’s terms, not ours. @@TheBallingers3 Its your claim that the Mormon church is established truth that I disagree with. You can believe that if you choose but it's a belief not a fact. You or anyone else in any church have absolutely no evidence that it's true. Truth according to who? And the actual facts are that prophets in the Mormon church have been wrong many times. Even when they testified at the time that what they were saying came from God. I have studied the history of the Mormon/LDS church for many years from sources that are favorable to the church. Prophets get things wrong all the time. Brigham Young was a horrible person. He used tithing money to enrich himself and treated women like slaves. Classic narcissist. But there is a university named after him. No one talks about the contribution all of his wives (that he treated like property by the way) made. Men who claim to speak for God can cause a lot of hurt and heartache when people follow them. And when they are wrong they always get a pass. I do not believe this is the way a loving all knowing God would act. But I know a lot of Mormons and they are good people. So I am perfectly willing to make room for people who want to believe whatever religion tells them God said..Catholics, Jews, Muslims...they all speak for God. @@markcavandish1295 That doesn't disprove my statement on pornography. I disagree with your over generalizing statement about the church's effects on feeling inferior and suicidal. That has not been the experience of the vast majority of youth I know and have worked with, though I am sure there is a meaningful population that does have that result. My big issue is pornography, not really masturbation. I'm not sure that opening the doors of porn to youth is a good idea, and there's plenty of science and reason to back that up. Pornography is not natural. We weren't built to blaze through 100 gifs of naked women in 10 min, biologically or spiritually, then repeat any time the desire arises. It screws us up. The church takes the stance that the sexual drive we have should be contained and directed toward family-building efforts, and that youth should learn that. I know of Bishops to this day who still practice removing church privileges from young men and women in an effort to curb the habit, and I think that depending on the person this can produce more harm than good. The fundamental principle of Julie's ideology is the desire to control the consequences of our choices. Hence her emphasis on authority - to authorize the output and not just the input. When we value what the world offers more than what has been revealed through the restored gospel, we naturally seek anything that will separate us from that consequence. We do not want to lose what we value. It's frustrating when we learn otherwise. Since, by eternal law, we cannot alter or persuade the consequences of our choices - as this is the property of justice - the default is to obfuscate, albeit temporarily, these consequences. The most effective way to obfuscate these consequences is to adjust and alter the source of these truths that frustrate us. Why leave the church when we can change hard sayings to smooth sayings so that we may justify our desires and "avoid" kicking against the pricks? However, to accomplish this, we must first disassociate the church (divinely called leaders and divinely received revelations) from its Head, Who is the source of these truths that frustrate us. Once we do this, we can claim that fallible men without divine providence and authority lead us according to their liking, so it is now up to me to claim that authority to (superficially) determine what is right and true.

@@jonathanschroeder9 I think you and I are basically on the same page here, but I still challenge your position because I think it oversimplifies the reality of the struggle that each person has to discern personal revelation. Nephi’s run in with Laban has the advantage of having been written decades after seeing the results of his actions. Abraham’s binding of Isaac shares similar advantage, but in the moment Abraham might have been shocked his idolatrous father Terah was right to believe in and teach a bloodthirsty god (spoiler: he wasn’t). Adam’s choice to follow Eve too. There are TONS of scriptural and historical examples where Elder Renlund’s framework misses, but he’s still right for teaching the rule and not the exception

Julie de Azevedo (her name before Hanks) was a beautiful singer and I wish she would get back to those days of being faith promoting. She probably thinks she is doing good, opening minds, etc. But she is actually doing a great deal of damage to some of the children of our Heavenly Father. Ultimately, people do get to chose whether to listen to her voice, or the voice of the Spirit and the prophets. We can't blame all of this on Julie, she is simply providing the excuses some are seeking to indulge in the world's petty offerings.

So I asked a friend of mine who is a scholar when it comes to church doctrine and he pointed to me to the section in the hand book where it absolutely talks about it. It under the self harm section. Thank you for making this video! It breaks my heart the falsehoods she is teaching. It reminds me of how the scriptures state false prophets. In my opinion she is one. I have been in a relationship where pornography was used by my ex and it is addictive and does destroy a healthy loving view of intimacy and sex. What she says not only infuriates me but it’s completely not true (my experience and many other womens which have been shared with me). I have also been through a crisis of faith and can tell you when I stopped listening to the Prophet and Apostles I felt lost, dark, and empty. You can all argue with me if you want that that is the way of happiness but I lived it and I know what it did to me and it was not happiness. It was shallow and dark. The ONLY way I found peace and light was through Jesus Christ and following God’s commandments and using The Atonement. So yes, those with a crisis of faith can come out the other end following Christ. I am happier and more at peace than I have ever been before. He is the way of truth and light and this is His restored church. He has called a Prophet and Apostles to spread His word. Being a disciple is not easy, it takes discipline. I just read this today in Jacob 7 about Sherem who was a Christ denier: "4 And he was learned, that he had a perfect knowledge of the language of the people; wherefore, he could use much flattery, and much power of speech, according to the power of the devil." She is using flattery and 'perfect language' to lead people away from the truth. One of my favorite parts of this video was Elder Holland when he said that Jesus clarified what it meant to love Him. He said "If ye love me, keep my commandments." That's about as clear as you can be. The other one is President Hinckley, who I miss, when he said "Either the church is true or it isn't." If it is true and you have received personal revelation about it, it is your duty and privilege to follow the commandments and living prophets.

@@thoughtfulfaith2020 There's an important difference in what I said and what you said.. I said "People have every right to be whatever they want to be". You said "people can be whatever they want to be". This is subtle but important. You seem to believe that a person is capable of sinning but has no right to do so. Doctrinally accurate, we are not our own, but are purchased with a price, yada yada. Its the doctrine that I take issue with. People have no right to harm or steal from others. That's it as far as I'm concerned. So between your remarks on expressive individualism and Elder Bednar's remarks on agency that you posted, you still don't see how your remarks equate to spiritual compulsion? Being told you don't have the right to sin? Really? You're not seeing this? I suppose the axiom holds true that you can't release someone from the chains they refuse to acknowledge are there. Yes this is open rebellion against a God or messenger who would tell me I don't have the right to oppose him or that there will be eternal consequences if I do. That. Is. A. Threat, and I don't respect it. The Church claims to be so family friendly and family oriented but look at how this doctrine and your advocacy of it has caused a rift in yours. Pres. Monson preached against the Beatles message "all you need is love". Again you're the problem. Your doctrine creates division in your family and relationships, and it opposes common decency all while instilling its members with a victim complex after their bigotry goes unappreciated. This division leads to suicides. The lip service given to suicide prevention during this conference does fuck-all to fix the issue of the doctrines promoted that damage people's sense of self. None of this means anything if it doesn't come from a place of love. This only makes me angry because I speak with people so often about those damages and their attempts to just live. But according to you, and the brethren, and Mormon Jesus, they don't have the right.
@thoughtfulfaith2020

What do you mean "right to sin"? Because I think I would say we certainly have the "right to sin" in the sense that God grants us our agency to sin, but he cannot hold back the eternal law (that even he is subject to) from exacting consequences according to our choice. A father may give you the right to drive off a cliff but ultimately he does not want you to do it and nor can he stop the consequences of you being smashed on impact. People have the right to be whatever they want to be... we want them to be the highest and best thing they can possibly be.

So, the problem is that we can't actually follow every "counsel". Julie isn't wrong about that. At one point, the leaders counseled members to buy slaves. Are we honestly going to pretend like that counsel was somehow a bad thing to get personal revelation on that was counter to that recommendation? Also, I could never take in the current popular injection because it would grossly violate my conscience and the personal spiritual guidance I've gotten. Julie's problem is that she's advocating for porn as being normal or healthy, which it is not. It is vile. Unfortunately though, she's not wrong about the need for personal revelation to often be prioritized over counsel. If only there was doctrinal consistency in what the leaders said. I mean, they do consistently say we need to have our own personal connection to God so we can get reliable personal revelation. So that's probably where they might not be guilty in any moment they err in their words. Hopefully me saying they "err in their words" isn't speaking evil of them. I'm not here to judge the leaders. But I can discern and I don't think it's wise to just take every counsel at face value and follow it without question. I did that and when I cried to the Lord over the consequences, He chastised me for taking the counsel without question.

The Lord said, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8). In order to find and receive, we must seek and ask. Be reverent. Reverence is profound respect and love. When we are reverent and peaceful, we invite revelation. Even when everything around us is in commotion, we can have a reverent attitude and be prepared to receive guidance from the Lord. Be humble. Humility is closely related to reverence. When we are humble, we recognize our dependence on the Lord. Keep the commandments. When we keep the commandments, we are prepared to receive, recognize, and follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Partake of the sacrament worthily. The sacramental prayers teach how to receive the constant companionship of the Holy Spirit. When we partake of the sacrament, we witness to God that we are willing to take upon ourselves the name of His Son and that we will always remember Him and keep His commandments. Our Heavenly Father promises that when we keep these covenants, we will always have the Spirit to be with us. (See Doctrine and Covenants 20:77, 79.) Study the scriptures every day. As we diligently study the scriptures, we learn from the examples of men and women whose lives have been blessed as they have followed the Lord’s revealed will. We also become more receptive to the Holy Ghost in our own lives. As we read and ponder, we may receive revelation about how a certain scripture passage applies to us or about anything else the Lord desires to communicate to us. Take time to ponder. When we take time to ponder the truths of the gospel, we open our mind and heart to the guiding influence of the Holy Ghost (see 1 Nephi 11:1; Doctrine and Covenants 76:19; 138:1-11). Pondering takes our thoughts from the trivial things of the world, helping us gain a more eternal perspective and bringing us closer to the Spirit. When seeking specific guidance, we should study the matter out in our minds. At times the Lord’s communication will come only after we have studied a matter out in our minds. Patiently seek God’s will. God reveals Himself “in his own time, and in his own way, and according to his own will” (see Doctrine and Covenants 88:63-68). Revelation will often come line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little. We should be patient and trust in the Lord’s timing.

I think she wouldn’t have nearly as much influence if the brethren didn’t promote as much woke nonsense as they do. If the church stood up for what’s right instead of what’s popular, it would attract more people of strong character seeking the truth. But right now, the church wants to be “good global citizens” so we embrace the woke and reject liberty and truth. It’s heartbreaking and helping people like Hanks in her efforts to destroy the church.

When I hear Julie Hanks speaking, I try to understand and I keep getting this stupor of thought. What does that mean?

I saw her on my podcast feed and listened to her once. I felt so uneasy about it. I wanted her off my feed. She comes as a default so I have to go in and change my podcast almost every time so I don't have to listen to her. It is like she is forcing her ideas onto others. I have a bad gut feeling about her. It is so crazy to me these days how people want so much to justify sin and feel okay at the price of hurting their relationships with others and most of all Jesus Christ. Where has respect gone (out the window) for yourself and others?

Any reason this video is in 480p? It's difficult to read when everything is this pixelated. Can you replace it with a 1080p version?

@@stacygodnick3887 With what?! What has Dr Julie said that makes you so uncomfortable? She gives sound advice for tough questions that everyone has but is too afraid to talk about in church.
