My '08 Softail Custom is bought and paid for, is set up exactly how I want it so for me to trade up and take on debt is a big no!

And the amount you would be offered for your trade would be offensive. Keep it and keep riding!

Hey Chef. Glad ya got a video out. I was wondering what happened but I understand you get busy with other things and all. My 2019 street glide special has almost 106,000 miles. I was at my local dealer a few weeks ago and one of the salesmen said they won't even look at my bike for a trade in because of the high mileage even though it's paid off. Thanks for another great video and great information.

I am not going anywhere!! The amount of miles you have is awesome! The mileage does affect the trade value for sure, but they should still be able to help you out. If not, there is someone out there who will for sure.

It definitely has to make sense to me for me to trade my bike

Totally agree. If it doesn’t make sense, don’t do it is what I live by.

Great info. So If I'm looking to trade in my bike, it would be better for me to take off anything I could resell? When I went in for a trade in price, they only looked at the VIN #. I did not expect top dollar but was surprised my PAS dropped 14k in value in 2 years. Like you I love my bike, so It I could just walk away. More curious than anything.

If you have the ability to make it back to stock I certainly would recommend doing that. You book value is the book value for the stock bike only.

The trade-in process is hectic; new bikes are cheaper. I traded in my old bike, stripped all the parts, and resold them to pay for new parts, but trade-ins are low as the market is full of bikes.

Yeah with the value of the new 24 models, the used market has fallen to a bad spot. Smart idea of stripping your bike down and making money!

I'm not a Harley guy. I haven't noticed prices dropping as fast as cars on Japanese bikes. What I have noticed is the same bikes just sitting on the marketplace for months. Tells me prices should be dropping but owners won't drop. I also think new bike interest rates vs your current rate need to be taken into consideration. Hosed on a trade + a bit more expensive bike + higher rate may be significantly more expensive in the long run than a couple more years on an older bike.

The metric market is dropping as a result of the bigger picture. People are always going to want the most for their bikes, but disposable money is hard to come by right now. The interest rates on bikes is part of the issue with sales right now. It is killing us for sure.

My 2007 Dyna would probably make 4-5k on a trade in. Here in the U.K. a 2024 Street Bob has a list price of almost £16,000 or about $22,000 plus taxes and fees. Add to that the Stage 1 upgrade, a few changes such as seats, bags etc. and I'm probably close to £20,000 or $25,500. Would it feel 5 times better than my 5k Dyna for the 25k I'd have to pay? I very much doubt it, I'll stick with what I have!

That has to be the way of thinking for most of us out here. I would love a new bike, but it does not make sense at all for me.

That's why I don't put a lot of stuff on my bike . And i would never trade in a bike. I would sale it outright.
